About the heatwave

I live in the south east. I can't remember when I last saw rain but the air is continually humid and oppressive. I can't remember when I last slept due to it and now find myself waking at night panicking due to the lack of air despite having fans on the go all the time. I'm worried that if this heatwave goes on much longer I will break down and am seriously considering leaving the country- but to where? It seems most of the globe is like this at the moment with freak weather events happening, Europe is mostly like the UK and not improving.

I don't know if it's because I'm heavily pregnant in feeling like this - overwhelmed and panicky- or if any non pregnant types are. It's just too much now.

Yanbu. I struggled to draw a full breath when I was heavily pregnant, and it was worse lying down. I can't imagine coping with that in this heat.

YorkieDorkie · 22/07/2018 22:13

You mispronounced "summer" Grin

YorkieDorkie · 22/07/2018 22:14

In all seriousness though, I feel your pain! Not quite the same but I'm BFing a very sticky warm baby and the extra human stuck to me every other hour is also not joyous!

TooManyClicks · 22/07/2018 22:15

Head north! I’m in Dundee and the weather is warm but not hot.

ParkheadParadise · 22/07/2018 22:16

Come to Glasgow, we had rain today.

MayhemandMadness01 · 22/07/2018 22:17

I take it that you are down south, NW England is quite lovely at the moment, we are just by the coast so no doubt this helps as well.

MyBreadIsEggy · 22/07/2018 22:17

I’m not even pregnant but ready for this heat to fuck off to the far side of fuck Angry
I’m pale, pasty, and very much an autumn/winter person.
Summer can suck a dick Angry

ReevaDiva · 22/07/2018 22:19

@TooManyClicks I'm just on the other side of the Tay and we've been unbearably hot today! It felt as hot as last year in Spain in July.

BMW6 · 22/07/2018 22:22

Its winter in Australia and the entire Southern Hemisphere so you have plenty of options.

Closer to home Glasgow is very mild and wet. How quickly could you move?

Bluntness100 · 22/07/2018 22:22

My husband is just back from a trip to Scotland and said it's totally different, wet and cooler. So if you want a break head north.

I love the fact we are having a wonderful summer, but the lack of rain is worrying me from a garden perspective.

Flev · 22/07/2018 22:24

6 months pregnant here. Seriously fed up with the weather.

Xmasfairy86 · 22/07/2018 22:24

It would be fine if it cooled down in the evening! pretty sure my darked on washing is drying outside as we speak

There’s no let up. No actual air to enjoy. It’s nice getting up and not having to layer up. Oh how I miss my dressing gown 😂

MeltingPregnantLady · 22/07/2018 22:24

Think I'm going to try and get to Scotland for some respite...im sure I can convince my DH I won't go into labour early so to head to the highlands and islands for a couple of weeks.

Usernamesareboring · 22/07/2018 22:24

A SE dweller here, not pregnant but I am so over this bloody weather - not being able to sleep is the real killer, the air seems to cool down a tiny bit at night (but still over 19 degrees) but not even a whisper of a breeze so it doesn't make a blind bit of difference

Oh and south facing bedroom with airing cupboard in too....

Come on rain!

confusedandtiredofitall · 22/07/2018 22:25

Could you book into a hotel with air conditioning?

SleepFreeZone · 22/07/2018 22:25

We are in the Peak District and it’s cool here. Unfortunately we are heading home on Friday where it will be 31 degrees. I am dreading it 🙁

areyouactuallykidding · 22/07/2018 22:28

It’s really not that hot. I’m not a massive fan of hot weather but it’s not keeping me awake

Rather than emigrating can you not get a portable aircon unit?

MeltingPregnantLady · 22/07/2018 22:30

It's the lack of air that's the problem. Dry heat I can usually cope with to fairly high temperatures but humid, oppressive, lack of breeze heat like we currently are having (that is due to worsen next week) and I'm out.

OP posts:
Claireshh · 22/07/2018 22:33

It is oppressive. The feeling of no air IS really unpleasant. If I was pregnant I’m not sure I would be coping either!

itsbritneybiatch · 22/07/2018 22:34

I feel for you I was pregnant in a big heatwave also.

It's the mugginess that's awful. Sweat by straight out the shower. Constantly frizzy hair.

Mogleflop · 22/07/2018 22:35

It fucking is that hot. It's the hottest summer on record since 1976. Don't be a smug arse at someone who's suffering @areyouactuallykidding, how is that helpful?!

OP, can you buy or rent an air conditioner? It might be as cheap as a trip up north!

categed · 22/07/2018 22:39

Another saying come to Scotland. Whilst it's hot for us compared to down south we're not too bad. Fife has been okish highs of 25 overnight lows between 12-16ish and rain 😁😁😁

matchmakers · 22/07/2018 22:44

OP I feel your pain. I am 8 months pregnant, huge and really struggling (in the south also).
My favourite thing today at the moment is ice. No exaggeration I'm eating a kilo a day!

I also have a toddler to chase around all day. It is too bloody hot to go to the local park to wear him out (only one in waddling distance anyway) and there's no shade there at all.

It's here until at least the end of the month. Sob!

My last baby was born in spring and I cannot tell you how much easier it is being pregnant when it's cold. I can't wait for autumn! Or better a freezing winter. Yes please!

NakedMum33and3rd · 22/07/2018 22:44

7 months pg here and can not cope. There really is no air. I'm so sweaty. I just had a cool shower and am laying in front of a fan. I am looking forward to going to work tomorrow as my office is air conditioned. Sad

80sMum · 22/07/2018 22:44

I live in SE England. It's actually quite cool late at night. I leave all the doors and windows open until I go to bed, so the cool night breeze blows through the house and it loses all the daytime heat. I think it helps that it's an old house, so not well insulated. I usually go to bed at about 1.30am when it's cool outside, about 16 degrees of late. I also have a very light duvet, only 4.5 tog.

Perhaps I am the exception. There have only been a couple of nights this year when I haven't taken my hot water bottle to bed!
