Can anyone guess the sex from these blurry photos?

MrSpock · 22/07/2018 07:35

Posting for traffic, I got no replies on the pregnancy board. These are dichorionic twins at 15 weeks. I asked the second but was told it wasn’t clear enough to give an answer.

I’m impatient and we’re struggling with boys names, so it would be nice if I had an idea whether we need two, one or no boys names!

Can anyone make anything out?

Can anyone make anything out? I'm hard pushed to make out more than there being two heads...

If a trained professional can't make it out yet, I don't think we have any realistic chance, have we? Grin

Congratulations OP! Get cracking on those name lists - I used to check out the names in TV programmes' closing credits as well as name books. Actually still do this even though I have nothing to name now, old habits die hard...

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 22/07/2018 08:35

I can't tell the first pic because of the position, the second one I would say girl because it looks similar to one of my daughter's scan pics and looks like nothing between the legs.

Hahaha! The problem is my DP is incredibly picky. I like loads of names!

I wondered that. But wasn’t sure of the position.

If the sonographer couldn't tell at the time there's no chance from the stills IMO. They get a much clearer impression than the printouts convey, as the changing image gives a better impression of 3D structures IYSWIM.

Soubriquet · 22/07/2018 08:42

Without seeing the much hated mumsnet phrase pottyshot, I don't think we will have much luck.

I would look into getting a 3D scan. You might get lucky there

MrSpock · 22/07/2018 08:44

I’m thinking of a 3D scan. I had one with DS, but he used to moon everyone so there wasn’t any doubt Grin

OP posts:
honeyishrunkthekid · 22/07/2018 08:46

Unless you have a 'potty' shot then it is impossible to tell.
Private gender scan at 16 weeks?

SoyDora · 22/07/2018 08:48

It’s difficult for a highly trained sonographer to tell at 15 weeks even at the optimal angle, so I don’t think a load of amateurs have much chance from blurry pictures on the internet!

MrSpock · 22/07/2018 08:49

I didn’t think anyone would be able to tell because they’re blurry but thought it was worth asking. I’m impatient.

OP posts:
SoyDora · 22/07/2018 08:51

Even if they weren’t blurry the angle isn’t right for finding out the sex. As PP’s have said, you need a ‘potty shot’.
We had a sexing scan last week at 16 weeks and the sonographer could only tell from looking directly up at the genitals.

MrSpock · 22/07/2018 08:54

I might have a gender scan done, although I wonder if it would show because my anatomy makes it hard to see. They had trouble seeing these!

OP posts:
SoyDora · 22/07/2018 08:56

One of my best friends had 3 sexing scans with twins... first one she was told 2 girls, second one she was told 2 boys and the final one a boy and a girl. It was 2 boys!

masktaster · 22/07/2018 08:57

You'll have time enough to think of names after the anomaly scan at 20 weeks, if they can find out then :)

We struggled with boys' names throughout pregnancy (didn't find out), had a shortlist of 3 eventually, and then none of them worked for DS. Another shortlist and 2 weeks after he was born of testing them out, and he finally had a name.

Congratulations!

Snowysky20009 · 22/07/2018 08:57

There's No hope in hell of telling- the genitals are hidden in each shot
🤷🏻‍♀️

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 22/07/2018 08:59

The sonographer may have been able to tell, but even if they can most won't tell you at this stage as it could be wrong. I had a 3d scan at 17 weeks with my last baby and found out he was a boy. Everything was really clear and you can get gender scans from 16 weeks.

MrSpock · 22/07/2018 09:00

We’ve got a few we like, but DP isn’t convinced. The only two names he loves are Gabriel and Charles. I like Gabriel but I don’t like Charles because Charlie is very ordinary to me.

I like Arthur, Edward, George, William and Percy, DP likes Arthur but not really the others. He also thinks Gabriel and Arthur don’t “go together”.

girls names are so much easier Grin

Congrats - I have dcda twin boys now 22 months. It’s hard work but brilliant. You should be having scans every 4 weeks from 20 weeks so plenty of opportunity to find out!

If you have a 3d scan you have to have it earlier than Singleton pregnancies, think it was by 25 or 26 weeks.

Remember that if they’re the same sex there’s a 25% chance they’re identical :)

SinkGirl · 22/07/2018 09:04

We struggled with boys names too, we went classic in the end and I’m glad we did - you have no idea how many babies I know called Luca, Reuben etc. I don’t know any other babies with their names 😂

MrSpock · 22/07/2018 09:04

Congrats on your boys! :)

I didn’t know that about them being identical! I know most twins are not identical but didn’t know the stats, I’m curious now as to whether mine are!

OP posts:
MrSpock · 22/07/2018 09:07

I love classic names. If it were down to me, they’d be George and Edward. DS1 has a beautiful traditional name and I’ve only met one other child his age with that name. Everyone comments on how much it suits him. It’s not particularly unusual, just fairly classic rather than trendy.

OP posts:
SinkGirl · 22/07/2018 10:01

We were told from the first scan that they were non identical so I was really shocked when I found out there was such a big chance of them being identical. I don’t think ours are but it’s eeally hard to say as one has had various medical issues and a medication that affects his appearance but they’re looking more and more alike - I think they’re non identical but will look very similar

MrSpock · 22/07/2018 10:10

They told me these are likely non identical but there’s a small chance they are. I don’t think they are because there are twins in my family which usually indicates non identical and they’re a natural conception so I’m assuming they’re fraternal like all the others on my side
