To want to holiday like a normal person

Bimgy85 · 21/07/2018 22:35

Popular places in Spain have been ruined and are now so tacky and commercial... Benalmadena, Salou, Benidorm is a no go completely.

Ruined by these typical lager lout holiday makers usually consisting of a large British family who drink cans of San Miguel beside the pool at 1 in the day smoking cigarettes and or drinking beer with their breakfast...

Aibu to want to relax by the pool like a regular person without taking over the entire place, reserving sunbeds, allowing my kids to scream their heads off from 9 am until 9 pm

Parts of Spain have been ruined and taken over by these type of people! Lager lout beer bellies up for a fight most of the time, poor fuckers Grin

Can you recommend a nice spot in Spain that hasn't been ruined? And become tacky central?

Grin maybe you need to broaden your horizons out of the Spanish mainland. Agree Tarifa is nice, quite hip, my friend used to live there. If you have children La Manga on the Mar Menor is good, but tbf there is better outside of the mainland. We love Ibiza basically anywhere away from San Antonio is wonderful very hippy dippy, beautiful beaches we like San Josep. Camp DeMar, Port Sóller and Cala San Vincente on Mallorca are lovely, lovely resorts with nice tourists and tasteful restaurants and bars if you still fancy Spain. The Atlantic Coast in Portugal is very chic and quite undiscovered. We’re looking at the Ile De Re which is an Island of La Rochelle in France for next year. Biaritz and around in France is a nice beachy holiday.

Happpydayz · 23/07/2018 18:26

We are going done to the south of France and staying in a yelloh campsite. Going next week, can’t wait!!

hadenough · 23/07/2018 18:34

Northern Spain is spectacular. Amazing food and wine, and a vibrant culture. The weather can't be guaranteed to the same degree as the south, but it's a wonderful place to be.

I have never visited Benidorm. I never will visit Benidorm, and I will always avoid anywhere which appeals even remotely to the package holiday crowd.

Silver1022 · 23/07/2018 18:54

We are the same so now we hire a villa instead of hotels. We are off to France in a couple of weeks, we went there last year as a last minute thing and ended up loving it, so this year for just over £700 that includes the ferry but not fuel we have a lovely large three bedroom house with pool for less than a caravan in the UK

Frogletmamma · 23/07/2018 18:58

Estepona or Nerja in Spain

Linguaphile · 23/07/2018 19:03

Languedoc-Roussillon, the French riviera (we like Antibes), the Italian lakes, Corsica, Sardinia... all winners with lovely sun, beaches, pools and very tasty food.

Kyrie10 · 23/07/2018 19:08

Menorca is lovely

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 23/07/2018 19:27

It's never occurred to me to book a resort to be honest. We always book a villa or something.

I agree that some of the villages/towns around Ronda are fabulous. I love that part of Spain.

Snoophoggyhog · 23/07/2018 19:41

I highly recommend omis and mimice in Croatia

TigerTooth · 23/07/2018 19:42

Sorry but your punctuation is awful, you don't know where Skiathos is and you are not just not articulate enough for me to share our holiday gems...I wouldn't want you there, you're simply not good enough.

How does that feel op?

Snoophoggyhog · 23/07/2018 19:42

Or if you really want to do Spain then Almeria

starlight13 · 23/07/2018 19:46

If you are visiting a different country, why do you want it full of tourist bars and restaurants? Holiday at home if you want to live like you do the reat of the year. Why do you ask about all of this and the weather? You can find all of this out yourself with a bit of research! Try broadening your horizons and venturing somewhere new - Croatia, Bulgaria, Morocco, Senegal, Hungary....leave Spain to the chavs who haven't got the nonse to try anything new.

AckYourHole · 23/07/2018 19:50

Another vote for Nerja. Not long back from a lovely week there. And we're normal Smile

JimmyGrimble · 23/07/2018 19:50

We went to Port De Soller on Mallorca last year and it was lovely but very expensive. When my kids were younger we took them to Salou a couple of times and it was really nice for them. We spent a day at the theme park (they'd never been to one before as we don't tend to do that kind of day out in the UK), spent a day in Tarragona, took my son to a football match at the Camp Nou, visited Barcelona, we found it to be an ideal base. Trip Advisor is your friend - if it says that you have to get up before you go to bed to reserve a sunbed then it's probably best avoided. What you need to remember OP is that the people you are slagging off have worked and saved for their holidays just the same as you. Stop looking down your nose.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 23/07/2018 19:51

Head to Sicily OP
Affordable and not an English breakfast to be seen Smile

Trinity66 · 23/07/2018 19:54

Agree Northern Spain is much nicer than the South

Maelstrop · 23/07/2018 19:57

Glad my Croatia recommendation went down well. :)

I lived in Málaga as a student and sometimes got the train to Torremolinos at night. I hung round with locals and had a superb time partying all night. I never saw any British lager louts. Málaga itself is gorgeous.

Happpydayz · 23/07/2018 19:57

Where are you staying?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 23/07/2018 19:58

I have no idea why anyone would type anything this offensive about something as benign as where to go on holiday.

And it's hardly as though Croatia, Bulgaria and Morocco are rare, undiscovered backwaters, you know...

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 23/07/2018 20:01

I think maybe people go on package holidays because they are cheap ? And they don’t have much MONEY

Fuck me Angry

FairyFlake45 · 23/07/2018 20:04

Pierrot Pollensa in Spain is absolutely lovely and nothing like the places you mentioned above.

SunShades · 23/07/2018 20:05

People who think Spain is full of chavy brits clearly haven't seen any of the authentic areas. Yes, Benidorm is a dump but there are many lovely cities and even resorts. I'd particularly recommend Madrid, Malaga, Córdoba, Granada and the far north.

FairyFlake45 · 23/07/2018 20:06

*Puerto (not Pierrot) Pollensa in Majorca, Spain

huggybear · 23/07/2018 20:06

Most of Spain...

I have been to Spain many times and almost never hear another English accent let alone lager louts!

Storminateacup74 · 23/07/2018 20:08

We go to the South of France now. It is extremely expensive to eat out. and beer is horrendously expensive but wine is relatively cheap. We hire a nice caravan on a camp site and cook simple meals and buy bottles of wine in the supermarket, and eat a couple of times. A completely different class of people to the typical brits abroad spanish resorts.
