I really hate being @‘d

I don’t want to delete the ability to be notified of someone’s reponse because sometimes it’s reallt useful.

But 90% of the time someone is @‘ing me on here with a pointless reponse.

I’m getting an email to tell me that someone on Mumsnet just replies “Yes.”

No need. I only @ someone if I feel is important, or I believe could be helpful.

Am I the only one?

Ah holy heck, I’ve been using @name like there’s no tomorrow and didn’t realise it did this, I just thought it put their name in bold font Blush

Sorry everyone that I’ve @‘ed!

SarfE4sticated · 21/07/2018 23:14

I hate it too, it seems rude and intrusive. I have had a couple of very nice and supportive messages, but when someone 'at's you to be mean it feels very attacking and personal when it ends up in your personal email.

NellMangel · 21/07/2018 23:17

Oh I didn't know either. I just thought it was the app version of bold. Oops.

LightAsTheBreeze · 21/07/2018 23:22

I disable mine after a couple of days, I get enough emails anyway without adding to them

caroldecker · 21/07/2018 23:41

@thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter you can use * * either sid of name/phrase to bold.

ManyCrisps · 21/07/2018 23:46

@JustVent I agree they’re quite annoying.

Sparklingbrook · 21/07/2018 23:52

I never @ anyone and I have them turned off myself so if anyone is @ing me I have no idea. Grin

DramaAlpaca · 21/07/2018 23:59

I never @ anyone either.

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 22/07/2018 00:01

I'm another one who only @d posters to bold them and to acknowledge them, in lieu of a 'like post' function.

I'm going to desist immediately!

theymademejoin · 22/07/2018 00:02

If you're addressing a specific point made by a poster, it makes sense to use it. What annoys me though, is posters referring to a point made by a previous poster without referencing the point, so you either have no idea what they're referring to or you have to scroll back and search for it. It's even worse when they don't mention the posters name either.

JustVent · 22/07/2018 07:27

You can switch them off. I have done (I had to before making this thread, let’s be honest!). Just go into one of your emails and click the bottom link and unselect the options.

I turned off email notifications as soon as they introduced this, and never use @ myself. It seems to me almost entirely pointless; if you use @, you have no way of knowing whether the person concerned is going to get the email, so you might as well save yourself the effort.
