Or would you see it as an invasion of their privacy?
Both dc have some SEN.
One has a previous issue of not being safe on social media.
They are 14 and 15

YANBU. I would if I were you. You are there parent and need to make sure they are safe and well, that also includes on phones / social media etc especially if they have history of not being safe. Also, you can parent your children how you feel is best, you don't need validation from us!

My DC 14, 15, 17 have SEN, we’ve also had issues with social media and being bullied, I regularly and randomly check they’re phones

Oh I know I don't need validation, I just wondered whether at that age I was being unreasonable or unusual to do so or whether it was a common thing.
According to my son (ha) none of his friends Mum's put any Internet restrictions on.

I will be checking my dcs phones until they are 16, after then they can have some privacy

I think that it's your responsibility as a parent to help them to navigate the internet/social media safely, and that includes checking their phones. As long as they are aware that you do this, I don't see it as in anvasion of privacy. It's hard to know at what age you should stop checking and I think it varies between different kids but given your DC's history, I think it's reasonable until you have seen that he can deal with social media safely.

Oopsy41 · 21/07/2018 10:04

Me being able to check it at any time was a condition of them having their phones. I think it's perfectly reasonable

In anvasion? An invasion!

My one shield is sen other nt I check their phones and social media. It is a condition of them having them. Why wouldn't you at those ages? At 18 I wouldn't as they are adults then.
