OK so I am honestly a little bit freaked out. My 5yo just came to me and said something was moving in the glass with her sea creatures. It's not something, it's several hundred somethings Shock
They seem to sit on the bottom or top of the water unless the glass is moved then they swim. What the heck are they. And what on earth should I do with them?!?

Trigger warning GrinGrinGrin

Wouldn’t last a day in my job if that’s disgusting enough to require warnings Wink

melonscoffer · 20/07/2018 19:50

What's a trigger warning?
Are some threads too dangerous to view?
What would this thread trigger?

coconutpie · 20/07/2018 19:52

What actually are these sea creatures??!

Roomba · 20/07/2018 19:56

I had to tip out a bucket full of water that had loads of these in the other day. Didn't realise they were mozzies but knew they were some sort of flying insect larvae.

I need to know what that sea creature thing is though? Is it an actual living thing? Or just a toy? I'm confused Grin

IJustHadToNameChange · 20/07/2018 19:56

They're more than likely mozzie babies.

Throw the water out (in the garden or down the loo) and bleach the toy and glass.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/07/2018 19:58

Put them in a pond.

WrongKindOfFace · 20/07/2018 20:00

That’s given me the shudders! Tip it all out.

User183737 · 20/07/2018 20:00

Is it patrick from spongebob??

Oysterbabe · 20/07/2018 20:00

Fuck off all you smug twats, I am very triggered I'll have you know. Mosquito larvae slept with my husband, stole my home and destroyed everything I love 😭😭😭

TSSDNCOP · 20/07/2018 20:01

Yeah I’d bleach the fuck out of the little blood sucking bastards.

User183737 · 20/07/2018 20:02

^^hard to believe, with a name like OYSTER......Shock

TSSDNCOP · 20/07/2018 20:02

You can’t blame the mosquito babies Oyster, your DH was at fault.

Bleach that fucker!

manicinsomniac · 20/07/2018 20:11

There was something on a news site yesterday warning people not to leave water standing in paddling pools etc because the hot weather was leading to more vampire horseflies laying eggs in the water and causing horsefly larvae. Nasty bites. Those are prob mosquitoes but you should definitely kill them in case!!

TerfsUp · 20/07/2018 20:11

ParadiseLaundry - seriously? You are triggered by mosquito larvae and so asked MN to add a warning to the header of this thread?

MoonsAndJunes · 20/07/2018 20:13

OMG OP! I nearly passed out when I saw that photo! What have I just seen? This thread really needs a trigger warning...

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

blaaake · 20/07/2018 20:14

They are no more than little black lines, do we need trigger warnings for exclamation marks too?

I'm crying @Buzzlightyearsbumchin Grin

TerfsUp · 20/07/2018 20:14

Not only that, *Oysterbabe, I heard a rumour that they stole the very speshul name you had wanted for your baby and they gossip with your mother-in-law about you.

Just you wait - next they'll be parking in your driveway and blanking you at the school gates.

DumbledoresApprentice · 20/07/2018 20:17

100% kill them. We shouldn’t get complacent about mosquitoes in the UK. I think I remember reading a couple of months back that species that can carry dengue fever have been found to be breeding in the uk for the last couple of years.

Happyhippy45 · 20/07/2018 20:27

Definitely mosquito larvae.
I used to live in New Jersey, hot and humid mosquito ridden summers.
We were told to make sure there was no standing water around your property......like the stuff that gathers in kids play things etc. We'd go round the outside of the house regularly emptying the water out. not sure it helped I still got bitten to pieces
They local authorities used to send a truck out to spray lovely pesticides all up the roads too.
Mosquitoes are nasty wee buggers. I almost hate them as much as wasps!

CocoaGin70 · 20/07/2018 20:35

Sod the floating stuff, WTF is an expanding sea creature Shock

SugarIsAmazing · 20/07/2018 20:43

As if there's anything "triggering" about mosquito larvae Hmm

Some women are muppets.

Squidgee · 20/07/2018 20:45

trigger warnings? nightmares?

did none of you ever used to poke at ponds/standing water as kids in the summer? those little wiggly things were everywhere.

good grief.

Samewitches · 20/07/2018 21:03

I found those in a pot DD had left out overnight and had a Google thinking they might be cute little sea monkeys and we'd keep them. Nope, Mosquitoes. Fuck that, they were ran out if the house and chucked on the road on a boiling hot day. Then the pot was disposed of in the recycling bin on the way back in. Disgusting little beasts.
