Just had the following conversation on the phone with DP

DP- Hey, where are you?

Me - McDonalds

DP - By yourself?!?!?!?!?!

Me - Yes... why?

DP - Why would you not just go through the drive-thru?

Me - Errrrr because I wanted to sit in and eat it

DP - By yourself?!?!?!?!

Me - YES!!!!!!!

DP - That's so weird sitting eating by yourself. Weirdo.

Me Erm. Okay. Knob.

(We call each other names all the time, it's said with love and affection most of the time)

So I'm looking around at 75% of the people in there sitting eating alone and engrossed in their phones

AIBU to think sitting eating a McDonald's alone is a completely normal thing to do and he has issues for thinking it's weird?!?!

He is most definitely weird, I just went to nandos for lunch on my own, It was great, read some of my book.

thefinn · 20/07/2018 15:02

lol not weird

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/07/2018 15:03

I can't work the drive through so I always have to go in Blush

Trinity66 · 20/07/2018 15:04

YANBU what a strange man your DP is :p

thecatsarecrazy · 20/07/2018 15:07

I love to sit by myself having a coffee before work. Better than being ignored by dh on his Fucking phone

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 20/07/2018 15:11

There's an art to dining alone. I love it. If he can't see that, he's to be pitied. He's the weird one!

ILikTheBred · 20/07/2018 15:11

Ugh eating the drive through in your car makes it stink of chips. Don’t know why you’d do that when you can eat inside !

Whipsmart · 20/07/2018 15:12

I always think that when people make a big deal of how "weird" you are for doing something alone, they're telling you how envious they are of your confidence Smile

lottiegarbanzo · 20/07/2018 15:12

Is he a massive extrovert who always needs to be talking to other people, in order to make himself feel real?

Travis1 · 20/07/2018 15:12

I love eating out on my own. A good book and I'm happy as larry

OllyBJolly · 20/07/2018 15:13

I don't actually like McDs as a leisure choice, but when I'm out and about for work it's a good place with guaranteed parking, strong free wifi and decent coffee.

If I want to eat on my own I'd go somewhere far nicer!

chrisinthesun · 20/07/2018 15:15

YANBU. What a weirdo!

I often have a maccies by myself.

I think only the most insecure of people are scared or freaked out by eating alone.

I don't give a shit personally.

Ditto with the cinema. I have been there alone too.

Sometimes with friends, sometimes with family, sometimes alone.

Who cares?!

NeatFreakMama · 20/07/2018 15:15

I love eating on my own :)

Allthewaves · 20/07/2018 15:19

No he's weird. I love going out for lunch by myself and a good book. Lovely to eat in peace without kids.

On different note. I really don't like drive thru as would hate to eat in my car bleh

AliasGrape · 20/07/2018 15:24

Yanbu

I love doing stuff on my own, and it seems so normal to me and such a non-issue that I find myself a bit baffled by people who think it is an issue.

DP was most put out by the fact I bought a ticket to go and see a comedian I really like alone. I don’t know anyone else who is a fan as this comedian is not massively famous (though getting more so) but I’ve been a big fan for a while due to his radio show so wanted to see him. I could have dragged a friend along but I felt like I’d feel awkward in case they didn’t enjoy it, I could have dragged DP but I know for a fact he doesn’t ‘get it’ with this comedian and it was a night he was busy anyway. So I drove, parked, walked in the theatre, lights down, comedian on, laugh laugh laugh the end walk to car drive home. And yet according to DP it’s just SO WEIRD that I’d do that on my own. I think it’s because it would literally never occur to him but I don’t think it was that big a deal.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 20/07/2018 15:24

My mum finds it completely baffling that I regularly go and have a pint on my own in a pub. She genuinely can't get her head around it, especially when I told her I don't do it to get into conversation wth other people. And yep, @argumentativefeminist I rank Norwich places on how many corners I can tuck myself into too Wink

zeeboo · 20/07/2018 15:35

Yeah he's a knob Grin McDonalds has air-con!! I'd spend a happy hour there myself sipping a milkshake.
Seriously, I love eating out by myself and I have no problem going into a pub for a pint by myself either.

LoniceraJaponica · 20/07/2018 15:38

I wouldn't want to eat McDonalds in the car. It would make my car smell. I prefer to eat at a table, drink a hot drink at a table and use the loo afterwards, and wash my hands.

Arum51 · 20/07/2018 15:43

In my experience, there is still a rump (cesspit?) of people who still think that a woman dining alone in public, anywhere, is weird. It's really not. It can be annoying when you get totally ignored by waiters who decide you must be waiting for somebody, but otherwise, it's perfectly normal.

MustBeThursday · 20/07/2018 15:46

Before I had my DC, I'd never have sat and ate somewhere alone. Now, I fantasise about it.

VauxhallVectra · 20/07/2018 15:48

Before the McDonald's shut down the road from my work Angry I used to love sitting in there on my at lunchtime just watching the world go by.

DP and DD agreed it made me a "loser". They're the losers Grin

VauxhallVectra · 20/07/2018 15:51

**On my own

Mrsharrison · 20/07/2018 15:54

Yes I do this. It's very liberating. I wanted a curry desperately on tuesday. So i went. Such a relief not to phone around asking people if they fancy a curry too.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 20/07/2018 15:57

YANBU. I have breakfast in the Sainsbury's café on my own every schoolday. I MN. Your DP's weird.

colditz · 20/07/2018 16:10

Of all the places it's NOT weird to eat alone,MacDonalds has to be top of the list. It's not like you brought along a bunch of flowers and a blow up doll in a tuxedo
