Baby headbands

Aibu to say when you have had a girl you should be made to sign a declaration stating you won’t put stupid headbands on your daughter.

Bit negative, OP. I’m not a fan of them but each to her own & all that.

user7469322 · 18/07/2018 21:46

Yes!! My daughter is not quite 4 and I’ve never put stuff like that in her hair. She’s never been keen either, akways pulled clips out or headbands off. Only now can I get her to wear a bobble for nursery.

ShedsofGrey · 18/07/2018 21:46

Mine looked lovely wearing a headband.

BlueTears · 18/07/2018 21:46

HmmBiscuit

MaggieMeldrum · 18/07/2018 21:47

I’m not other a fan but find judging other people’s parenting a much worse thing to do

Sparklingbrook · 18/07/2018 21:48

I think they look like they could be a bit uncomfortable. Plus they don't serve a useful purpose on a tiny baby.

But it doesn't affect me in any way.

ScreamingValenta · 18/07/2018 21:49

What's wrong with them?

rainbowsandsmiles · 18/07/2018 21:49

I think they look ridiculous (they have no hair!) but I'd never dream of saying this in RL.
Each to their own and accept that everyone has different tastes. Smile

DonkeyPunch88 · 18/07/2018 21:49

My daughter wears hair clips/head bands as she was born with very thick hair, by the time she was 6 months it was long enough to flop into her eyes constantly which irritated her. Also now that she's walking, I find if I leave her hair down she bumps into furniture much more often as she can't see.

I don't care if people think it looks 'chavvy' it's doing what hair bands were designed for and keeping it out of her face so she can see properly!

Sparklingbrook · 18/07/2018 21:50

Hairbands serve a purpose but headbands not really.

FoxAndBear · 18/07/2018 21:50

Agreed. Lovely gender stereotyping and so chavvy.

GreenRedBlue · 18/07/2018 21:51

I'd have said the same sort of thing when I had DS. Then DD came along, blessed with so much hair that when we started weaning I had to trawl through Claire's accessories to find something that would try to keep her hair out of the weetabix for 5mins.

Anyway, nowadays I try to be less judgy

LostwithSawyer · 18/07/2018 21:53

They look silly on a bald baby.
Also look uncomfortable and tight on some.
Sometimes I think they just want people to know their baby is a girl.
But whatever floats your boat.

Stephenstickinsect · 18/07/2018 21:54

donkeypunch I agree it’s slightly different when it actually serving a purpose when my daughters hair started getting in the way I would clip it back. More meaning the headbands with the huge flower but a baby with no hair

Nanny0gg · 18/07/2018 21:55

There is a big difference between hairbands for a purpose and headbands that are supposed to make a baby with little or no hair look girly.

Justanothermotha · 18/07/2018 21:56

I love hairbands! As long as it's not obscene/offensive people should dress their babies as they wish. If the baby is keeping it on then it's not bothering them!

Somersetlady · 18/07/2018 21:56

I always think they must be ao uncomfortable for a baby to wear as a band tight enough to stay on their hear that they can not remove.

Lanadelrat · 18/07/2018 21:57

I personally think ugliness on a person/poster looks far worse than a headband on a baby...

PodgeBod · 18/07/2018 21:57

I think they are really cute, even if the baby has no hair. And yes, I did start plonking bows on my little bald baby because I was sick of people calling her a boy, even when she was wearing a dress. She just had a boyish look I think.
I know I'm firmly in the minority on this issue.

ElementalHalfLife · 18/07/2018 21:58

You do you, OP, and let them do them.

I can almost guarantee there will be some aspect of your parenting that someone somewhere is judging - did I say almost? Make that definitely.

P00ka · 18/07/2018 22:00

Bit weird to my eye but apparently it's quite normal in America.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 18/07/2018 22:00

Can't stand the things - yanbu

Jemimapuddleduk · 18/07/2018 22:00

Such a non issue in the greater scheme of things. I must say it doesn’t offend me in the slightest and my dd wore a few (as part of a matching set with a dress/playsuit) when little and with not much hair.

LittleLionMansMummy · 18/07/2018 22:01

I think they look ridiculous on bald babies, yes.

MotherOfWren · 18/07/2018 22:02

I've always thought they were a bit weird looking. But a year or so ago I read a really horrible story, a new mum had put her baby down to sleep and left the head band on and it slipped over her face and she passed away. It was so heart breaking I just don't see the point and it defiantly doesn't outweigh the risks...
