Baby headbands

Aibu to say when you have had a girl you should be made to sign a declaration stating you won’t put stupid headbands on your daughter.

They usually look quite silly OP, especially the massive ones.

BringMeTea · 19/07/2018 07:06

Yeah. They are dreadful. Dressing your baby like it's a doll in case someone thinks it's a boy.

SarahBeeney · 19/07/2018 07:41

Malicifent7 Who says I'm middle class?

Stephenstickinsect · 19/07/2018 07:43

sarahbeeny was about to say the same

Tried to use a plain one on my daughter to keep the hair off her face. She took it off. She took hair clips off. In the end her dad cut her a fringe.
We used the hair clips on my son, who has floppy hair, for his passport photos.

BadMoodBetty · 19/07/2018 08:14

I always think people who do this (for aesthetic reasons) are like the people who dress up tiny dogs and put them in handbags.

Grin Spot on! Have done this! Grin

Probably lucky I had a boy, I would absolutely put bows and ribbons on a baby girl. Grin Because why notl? With the caveat that they aren't tight, uncomfortable for the baby, digging in, obstructing sight or hearing or breathing and I'd absolutely never leave one on achild when they are in a car seat or asleep.

patiently awaits complete roasting

MyBreadIsEggy · 19/07/2018 08:22

I think they look naff in half babies - kind of like a huge declaration of “Look! This child is female!” - even more naff when the bow is bigger than the baby’s head Hmm
But when baby has hair? And the headband actually serves a purpose then why not?
My DD was born with a full head of hair, and by about 4 months old it was flopping in her eyes, so used little clips and bands to keep in out of her eyes. Then she started pulling the clips out and putting them in her mouth so they had to go! Headbands were the best option.

MyBreadIsEggy · 19/07/2018 08:22

Half babies??

Bald babies - stupid autocorrect Angry

Frazzled2207 · 19/07/2018 09:01

To keep hair out of eyes- fine
On a bald baby - looks ridiculous IMO

Notso · 19/07/2018 09:27

don't like them. I don't think they are safe and they look a bit naff.
When my babies hair got in their eyes I cut it, for DS's and DD. You can cut girls hair and they won't grow a penis, it's a true fact.

Stephenstickinsect · 19/07/2018 10:06

notso brilliant 😂

Well this is entirely new information! Never been done to death before. None of your beeswax. And on to the pierced ears disgusting common stupid people have...
Is there a pat on the back icon?

RoseWhiteTips · 19/07/2018 11:03

Must be uncomfortable for a young baby. Think they are awful.

LeighaJ · 19/07/2018 15:29

@Stephenstickinsect

"Aibu to say when you have had a girl you should be made to sign a declaration stating you won’t put stupid headbands on your daughter."

Fine, style police, I'll only put them on my son.

Icouldbehappy · 19/07/2018 15:42

Not sure if this has been posted but a baby died when one slipped down over her nose and she suffocated.
The mother had brought her in, she was still asleep in her pram so she left the wee soul to sleep.
Heartbreaking. Please be vigilant if you do use them.

SlowlyShrinking · 19/07/2018 15:47

I was a bit taken aback when a childminder brought a colleague’s 2 yr old girl into work to visit and got told off by the Mum because the baby didn’t have any hair clips in her wispy sparse baby hair, and “looked like a boy” it was ok though because she had both ears pierced Confused

Takfujimoto · 19/07/2018 16:01

BadMoodBetty 😂 I won't be roasting you, purely because you proved my long assumed theory correct once however next time I see a baby with a headband I'll make sure to misgender them with a sly comment in your honour 😉

FrancisCrawford I see we do agree on something, not all is lost 😂

Desmondo2016 · 19/07/2018 16:16

Totally with you OP. My friend has put one in her baby every single day of its 9 months of life and it looks completely ridiculous. Not to mention I can't help thinking it could be quite uncomfortable and leave a lasting dent on the soft growing skull bone !

SilverySurfer · 19/07/2018 16:56

I came face to face with a baby in the supermarket wearing an enormous one of these monstrosities, the flower was almost as big as her head. I looked at the baby, then the mother, back to the baby and burst out laughing. I don't think the mother was amused Grin

BadMoodBetty · 19/07/2018 20:46

Takfujimoto Grin Grin

Yura · 19/07/2018 20:48

They are a strangulation risk, and babies have died wearing them...

DickensianHysteric · 19/07/2018 20:59

They look awful IMO. Friends of mine recently posted a photo of their day-old baby, a gorgeous wee girl, with a giant floppy headband on her tiny head. At that age, there is seriously no need. The baby would have looked just as cute without it.

strawberrry · 19/07/2018 21:07

I thought they were lovely until I read an awful story about a baby wearing one and it slipping down and covering her mouth & nose whilst she was sleeping in the pushchair with a terrible outcome. I'm due a baby girl in Oct but have been well and truly put off.

CSISaraSidle · 20/07/2018 00:33

I totally agree, someone bought a whole for my unborn daughter and I can safely say they will remain in the drawer until she's too big for them!

CSISaraSidle · 20/07/2018 00:33

Whole bunch*
