Aibu to say when you have had a girl you should be made to sign a declaration stating you won’t put stupid headbands on your daughter.

yanbu. I think they look ridiculous and the gender stereotyping makes me cringe.

Grilledaubergines · 18/07/2018 22:31

Soft

Agreed. All those little bones, all soft, let’s squash the fuck out of them in the name of (bad) fashion. It seems to be the people who can least afford them who prioritise them.

SarahBeeney · 18/07/2018 22:32

Yanbu. They are vile and chavtastic

Iwantaunicorn · 18/07/2018 22:34

I have boy/girl twins. I put headbands on my DD because I got fed up of people saying “ooooh two boys?” when they’re both dressed quite blatantly as boy/girl. It saves approximately 1 minute per person that stops to coo over the babies, and given that they’re treated like minor celebrities, that’s quite a lot of time over the course of my day. So yeah, YABU.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 18/07/2018 22:35

Ahh, headbands on a baldie baby.like Phil Mitchell with a cushion on his head

suzy2b · 18/07/2018 22:35

I love them and think they look lovely

Tillytrotter123 · 18/07/2018 22:36

Yanbu

SpectacularAardvark · 18/07/2018 22:36

I've always been puzzled why it's so important to have strangers know the sex of your baby.
Loads of people complimented me on my "beautiful little girl" while passing in shops etc, I just smiled and said thank you. It did used to amuse me if they went further and asked "her" name tbh... they were suddenly very apologetic but it honestly wasn't a big deal, he wore fairly neutral clothes and babies all look pretty much the same in my opinion.

If you want to stick headbands on them, go ahead, I just don't understand why you'd be so offended by someone mistakenly thinking your child was a boy. Shock

BuntyII · 18/07/2018 22:37

'. Plus they don't serve a useful purpose on a tiny baby. '

They do for babies who use assistive hearing technology like hearing aids and cochlear implants. YABU OP and mind your own business.

No I don’t understand why people get offended about mistaking a bike for a boy or vice Versa not like the baby’s at an age it would give them a complex

Girl not bike Hmm

In fairness Buntyll, it’s a minority of babies who wear headband to affix hearing aid
The main reason is for aesthetics, and op is entitled to comment on aesthetics

stevie69 · 18/07/2018 22:43

I wear one - and I've got no hair. I have lots in different colours. I like the look 😊

PodgeBod · 18/07/2018 22:44

Speaking from my own experience, it's not that I was offended that people thought DD was a boy, it was just embarrassing when people asked "his" name and realised they had made a mistake. More then once I was told rudely that I had dressed my child in the wrong clothes. I would probably shrug it off now but I was more sensitive with my PFB.

Brainfogmcfogface · 18/07/2018 22:44

Love them. Don’t care if iabu my daughter looked adorable in hers. But I never had huge ones, mostly a thin soft band with a flower/bow under an inch long. Never tight to her head, was always conscious of that.
Sadly I did create a bit of a hair bow monster, she’s almost 4 now and loves JoJo bows, the ones bigger then her head. I hate them but they make her so happy i just accept it.

Stephenstickinsect · 18/07/2018 22:44

bunty if headbAnds are used for this reason then I would have thought they would not be the over the top kind

OP posts:
PodgeBod · 18/07/2018 22:49

Most memorable for me was when I dressed my daughter in a lemon yellow dress with matching bonnet... and she was mistaken for a boy Grin

sue51 · 18/07/2018 22:53

They look a bit daft to me but if it makes their parents happy then go ahead.

Stephenstickinsect · 18/07/2018 23:10

podgebod that’s pretty funny. It seems that if people are unsure if babies a boy or a girl they just assume it’s a boy

PlatypusPie · 18/07/2018 23:13

Look awful on bald babies - utterly pointless.

TheFaerieQueene · 18/07/2018 23:17

Babies have delicate skulls that aren’t fused. I can’t believe that the pressure of a headband is good for skull development. They also look ridiculous.

Babyroobs · 18/07/2018 23:18

Yanbu - totally unnecessary !

thecatsarecrazy · 18/07/2018 23:18

My son had a headband for a while to try and keep his hearing aids in

thecatsarecrazy · 18/07/2018 23:20

It was cute too had anchors on but didn't really help Sad
