Bloody loud kids in the communal pool all day, everyday.

We've recently moved into a new house on a small development - 20 houses, at present only 10 sold, of those 10 only 5 of us are permanent residents.
Not in the UK.
Up until about 3 weeks ago everything was peaceful, harmonious, pretty idyllic. Then the "holiday homers" arrived.
Now, out of the 5 nonresident households, 3 have lots of children ranging in ages of about 1 to 13 years old. Approx' 9 children between them but every day there are friends arriving to spend the day (and sometime night) at the pool.
Now I'm all for kids enjoying themselves and its lovely to see them doing something other than sitting indoors in front of a tv/tablet/phone/games console but AIBU in thinking that the parents (who are rarely at the pool) should A) be keeping an eye on them and B) be telling them to hush down a bit?
All we can hear from morning 'til night (up to 12.15am this morning) is the children shouting, screaming, jumping in the pool etc.
It's incredibly hot here (40c+ in the day, never dips below 32c at night) so all doors and windows are open therefore the noise carries everywhere.
If we want to use the pool we have to dodge bombing children/passing li-los/random balls and floats along with said 'DC'.
We would just like to enjoy our downtime and relax. Is that too much to ask?

I’m more shocked you bought a house where the temperature is 40+ degrees where you’re not allowed to install air con!
We've never used AC in places we've rented before as electric is so expensive. To get this system here installed is about £8000 Shock

YANBU about the unnecessary screaming OP , we’ve always lived in an area with lots of children around us and I’ve noticed in the last few years that some children don’t ever talk anymore they just scream and shout constantly whether it’s to each other in play or to ask for a drink , and unfortunately I’ve yet to hear any of the parents telling them to not shout . Perhaps once the summer season is over this year you could get some rules put in place about visitors ( non residents ) using the pool only during set hours and under 10s needing an adult present at all times .

golondrina · 18/07/2018 16:04

If the temperature is 40ºC you need to keep the doors and windows closed and blinds down/curtains drawn and only open at night when it's cooler, otherwise your house will be 40ºC inside too. I say this as someone who has lived (without aircon) for nearly 20 years in a country where it gets to 40ºC + in the summer.

The late night swimming should definitely be addressed. However, my kids are loud and they can’t be kept quiet (4 and 8). I honestly try but they just can’t do it. My eldest has mild ADHD and absolutely no volume control and the little one just gets swept up with the oldest ones energy. If we were in a situation like the one you describe it would be either not let them play or allow them to make noise. I would supervise though.

PasstheStarmix · 18/07/2018 16:05

Op the loud FFS line said in aggressive tone is a sure winner. I used it when I was actually on holiday beside a pool. I was the same age as the idiot bunch of lads that were drunk and disorderly splashing and soaking everybody’s sun longer towels and mobile phones. I gave a big ‘FFS!!’ in my local accent and bang complete silence (you could have heard a pin drop.) they even offered me one of their biscuits!

Go down there and start singing the cunt song while weaving drunkenly around the pool. Repeat at least 6 times for even the youngest children to learn the words and then, oh, say 24 hours for them all to have repeated at least one verse in the presence of a parent. When questioned, claim that it was a random friend of one of them who started singing it and you can't remember who. No more friends over, kids grounded, pool quiet, problem solved. And a wonderful little ditty learnt that will serve them well in later life. Grin

I think I'll probably do that but it will include residents as well.
This is the first summer for all of us so its a learning curve

Is there a pool cover? If so, I'd be tempted to go out at a certain time and pull it over or ask the pool guy to do it.

I'd imagine the usage hours are there to protect residents from the noise.

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 18/07/2018 16:13

PasstheStarmix its a winner. I may just stick with it Grin

MissVanjie
You speak such sense.

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 18/07/2018 16:16

I'd imagine the usage hours are there to protect residents from the noise the ironic thing is that there's a special rule about not making noise around the pool before 10am as 2 houses front onto the pool. Guess who were the main culprits last night......

choli · 18/07/2018 16:18

I've never understood why children's noise levels triple or quadruple around water. It's very annoying. Nobody expects children to play at the pool in silence, but the constant top of lung shrieking is unnecessary.

I have friends who sold their house and moved when their neighbors installed a pool because of the 12+ hours a day of constant screaming and shrieking.

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 18/07/2018 16:19

thesnapandfartisinfallible I'm not familiar with that song myself and, as I said, I don't speak forrin like they all do Wink Maybe I could learn a local sweary ditty Grin

choli Exactly! Its lively that the kids can enjoy themselves but, surely we should be able to too?

I have got kids, and it would drive me absolutely mad. I hope the comity does manage to resolve it for you, increasing the time restriction might be the only way.
Kids can be noisy, but parents are there to keep the noise down! The ones who are screaming, shrieking and being a general nuisance in public place never seem to bother their own parents who tend to disappear.

It should be obvious that consideration is needed around a communal pool, it's unfortunate you have the neighbours from hell.

Myotherusernameisbest · 18/07/2018 16:25

YANBU. In a communal pool like that I would not expect my dc to be screaming and shouting all day long. In fact in any pool TBH if other people are going to be affected. And after a certain time it just is simply really ignorant. I have 5 DC and no way would they do this. They would play considerately or not be allowed in the pool.

There is a family near us whose kids are always screaming and shouting in the garden, with no effort whatsoever from the parents to encourage them to keep it down a bit. I'm not talking normal kids noise, this is deliberately as loud as they can be sort of noise. Lets just hope they are there for a short holiday OP and not for the whole summer.

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 18/07/2018 16:25

Well, the pool area is quiet now as all the little cherubs seem to have gone inside so I'm going for a dip to cool off Smile

Maybe have a little float on an inflatable OP with glass of wine and a book in hand (in other words i’m here for the duration.)

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 18/07/2018 16:37

(in other words i’m here for the duration.) We've tried those sort of tactics, doesn't stop the buggers though. I just go in the pool to swim lengths if I'm alone and cut through their pissing about after a while but still get bombed anyway so now I just wait until there's no one there
