Aldi store Bridgend warning

Grandad1 · 29/05/2007 11:26

Hi all

After spending a few hours shopping in the Aldi store bridgend, I have today be sent in the post a charge for £70 for exceeding the time spent in the bloody car park.

With the usual slow check out staff at aldi stores [perhaps this is a ploy ] to generate more revenue after you have left the store.

I am furious that a store like this would penalize its own customers?

What do you think?

A few hours shopping?
OMG what were you buying? the whole store LOL
BTW other supermarkets display notices like this

admylin · 29/05/2007 11:29

70 sounds abit much - you could pay to park all day for less than that surely?

LucyJones · 29/05/2007 11:29

well I guess a Grandad might take longer?

wheresthevalium · 29/05/2007 11:36

Grandad, it is totally unreasonable, write to Aldi and get them to cancel the ticket, send a copy of the receipt in to show that you were shopping in their store and demand a written apology

ernest · 29/05/2007 11:52

I think you're having a laugh, tbh. OK, just going by what you say, my gut raction is you parked there, did summat else, then did a bit of shopping there to justify parking in their car park.

A few hours in aldi???? come off it. tell the truth woman. You tried to cheat their car park and got caught. you took your chance, you got caught. stop moaning and pay up!!!!!!!

Tinker · 29/05/2007 11:54

How can you spend 2 hours in Aldi? Agree with ernest

kslatts · 29/05/2007 11:55

You are not being unreasonable, I would write to them refusing to pay it.

Chirpygirl · 29/05/2007 11:56

I would be interested how long you spent in store.
I was once charged £75 for parking outside tesco for 3 hours, when I had only been there 20 mins!
Luckily I had been to bank beforehand so I coudl prove I hadn't been parked there but if I hadn't I woudl have had to pay.

I do find it hard to believe you spent 2 hours in that Aldi though(and I live down the road, it ain't that big!)

MerlinsBeard · 29/05/2007 11:58

There are signs in all our supermarkets saying taht the stay is 2 hours MAX or a penalty will be charged (I think SAinsbo is £60) A few hours is ridiculous for doing a shop and i feel you were (and are) taking the piss. You stayed too long its your fault, you should pay.

ernest · 29/05/2007 11:58

But grandad1 reckons s7he was there "a few hours shopping in the Aldi store *. not 2 a few. pull the other one. a few hours in ALdi????? 30 minutes and I'm hyperventilating!!!!!! A few hours!!!!!!!! No, unless you work there, you were not in the Aldi store a few hours, were you?

JonesTheSteam · 29/05/2007 12:01

Blimey - a few hours shopping - is it a very big store?

I don't see how you can spend 2 hours in Aldi?? I don't even take that long going round Asda at snail speed and Asda is about 4 times bigger!

Chopster · 29/05/2007 12:05

slow checkout staff, in aldi??
This is the store that doesn't evne let you pack, but jsut chucks everything back in your trolley!

IcingOnTheCake · 29/05/2007 12:06

The checkout staff are quick.

Grandad1 · 29/05/2007 12:20

After checking with parking eye, they have refused to confirm the evidence of the stay in the car park, as it appears they clock vehicles going in an out?????

What ever that means

I told them to sue me for the amount they are claiming.

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 29/05/2007 12:27

do you not think that the checkout staff were slow because you had been picking up items for the last few hours and they were trying to pack it?

speedymama · 29/05/2007 12:42

I shop in Aldi all the time. How anyone can spend more than 45 minutes in there (including check out time) is beyond me.

Pay up. You were caught fair and square.

podywody · 29/05/2007 12:45

Grandad sorry to hear about such a large fine, but did you exceed the 2 hrs ? ? were you really in Aldi this long ????

Grandad1 · 29/05/2007 15:19

Here is the long story,

My wife was driving so this is what happened,

She drove in to aldi bridgend car park drove around for 5 minutes or so to find a space.

Then William who is 9 months decided to screem his head off so after changing him, feeding him plus further change of clothes after vomit accident.

Prceeded to go to Aldi complete shopping leave car park

Come back to Aldi enter car park to return item beyonf sell by date.

My take is this, the bloody camera did not pick up car moving to then re enter carpark and park again.

So have writen to Aldi after finding that Car park charges have been scrapped in several of the there stores.

surely they need to have proof.

i must admit, i could spend a few hours in any shop

wheresthehamster · 29/05/2007 15:41

I'll have to look at our local Tesco to see if that applies.
I spend about an hour checking out books, clothes etc before shopping. Then could easily spend another hour afterwards in the coffee shop if I see someone I know.

Tinker · 29/05/2007 15:52

So, did she park in exactly the same spot?

IcingOnTheCake · 30/05/2007 14:16

Why didn't you say that in your op? It all sounds very suspicious to me
