AIBU to say it drives me potty?

You have -

  • the "alright hon" brigade who share any old shit and everything is "amazing babe"
  • the "informer" who likes to be able to be the first to break all school news to everyone even though it has been emailed
  • the "school can do no wrong brigade" who if anyone questions the logic of anything the school are doing generally pounce and accuse others of being unsupportive
  • the "on it all day" who comment on everything
  • the "teacher brigade" mum teachers who like to give a school view on everything without actually taking on board what someone has just asked
  • the "wind up merchant" who comments just to poke the "alright hon" monotony
  • the "what's for lunch" brigade every day at 8.55 am - read the bloody menu!

Please add to the list any characters I have missed.

And yes I have left it before but I was missing too much actual useful info. I would just like it if it could be reduced to actual useful information like school is shut it's snowing! (Somehow it breaks on here before the official website)

Rant over.

Am I the only person not in a school message group? The school doesn't have a Facebook page either and they don't e-mail parents. We get letters home if we need to know anything and they send a text if school's closed due to snow etc...that's it, works grand.

Arum51 · 17/07/2018 23:05

We didn't have WhatsApp in my day, but surely you have a version of me? "Shit mum", I think I would have been called. The one who turns up on Inset days. The one who has NO idea they're supposed to be in sort of costume tomorrow. The one who can never remember what day PE is on. Her.

peoplearemean · 17/07/2018 23:06

@Arum51 I think I'm shitmum Blush

I think the odds are for our group, admittedly, people - it's very small. The larger the group, I'm sure the more diverse the people, and the more ... interesting ... the interactions.

Haworthia · 17/07/2018 23:08

There’s a Facebook group for my child’s class but also a Messenger group for a select few that I’m not in (found that out this week and it’s been nearly two years Grin)

There may also be a Whatsapp group for the top clique members but that’s pure speculation on my part, haha.

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 17/07/2018 23:08

I'm shit Mum too.

Smile

Or asks a lot of questions Mum. I know it's annoying but as I'm VI some bits like whose Mum is whose can go past me.

AalyaSecura · 17/07/2018 23:10

I must have had hundreds of what's app messages in the last week debating the class teacher end of year present - requests for money and responses, debate about what to buy, sharing of what's been bought and everyone saying thanks - and my dc is in the other class! Don't want to leave because there's often useful stuff and I do like them by and large, but people forget that they're effectively messaging up to 60 other people!

EndOfEternity · 17/07/2018 23:10

I love having a ‘Control Freak’ mum in ours, does all organising for us, got to be done her way, but means we just have to turn up 😀

signofthebellbird · 17/07/2018 23:11

I'm shit mum too. I spend a lot of time hiding from PTA mum who wants to check whether anyone would like to volunteer to do All The Things just in case they missed the newsletter asking us a week ago. Grin

Bookaboo · 17/07/2018 23:11

YANBU! Ours is 50% useful, 50% wind-up, I put up with it mostly and try to ignore the nonsense.

peoplearemean · 17/07/2018 23:13

@signofthebellbird oh yes how could
I forget PTA mum! (In my case she is also informer mum and yes I now hide)

Oh yeah, I’m sure you’re right there Grin

astoundedgoat · 17/07/2018 23:14

I love ours - super useful and fun.

The informer mums are vital, otherwise how on earth would you know about the wet, scrunched and torn permission slip mouldering at the bottom of the PE bag that is due in today for tomorrow's hitherto-unheard-of school trip that requires a packed lunch, purple shorts and a full set of armour for each child?

KERALA1 · 17/07/2018 23:15

Tip if you're kids about to start school unless you really want to do every pick up and every sodding drop off yourself for your child's every activity and all parties you need to network with your fellow parents. I got the Browmie run down to one pick up a fortnight and shared swimming week on week off. Smug emoticon

KERALA1 · 17/07/2018 23:15

Your

Efferlunt · 17/07/2018 23:15

I love flaky mum with five kids who constantly asks ‘do they need x today?’ Etc. It turns out I’m even flakier then her and didn’t even think to ask!

peoplearemean · 17/07/2018 23:17

Oh yes don't forget the subgroups as well -

-How we can help each other with childcare

  • girls group
  • boys group
  • group with siblings in same year

I've not been added to one of them, but ours is lovely, just a few of us. The fbook page is something else though. Mainly of random pics of uniform that has turned up tho.

DS1 is going into y4 now and I'm done with the whole school mum thing. I've made a few good friends and I can give or take the rest.

starzig · 17/07/2018 23:20

Couldn't be doing with that. I would just delete them

leccybill · 17/07/2018 23:20

Christ, OP, are you in our group? Achingly accurate Confused

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 17/07/2018 23:21

I’m on a Fb page and I’m a shit mum so thankful they let me join.

Don’t have wa, don’t feel Im missing out either.

GreenTulips · 17/07/2018 23:21

with a loaf of people

I like this idea and sums up parent groups perfectly

EndOfEternity · 17/07/2018 23:21

OMG yes, the ‘top clique’ 🤣 they def have their own group. I’m the ‘black sheep’ mum as didn’t tow the party line on something. So I’m never being admitted 🤣 such shame, not 🤣

peoplearemean · 17/07/2018 23:22

@leccybill haha maybe ;)

manateeandcake · 17/07/2018 23:22

A similar species to the health scare parents are the ones who like to share links about children being abducted in parks (never mind if they're in a different borough/city/galaxy).
