Hubby has taken our dog to a local wood, and lets the dog go for a run.
He goes at different times and different days.
He came home and told me that he has seen the same woman ghost five separate times so far. Tonight with bonnet wearing woman made him jump when she popped up in front of him. When he said 'you made me jump', she smiled nodded and walked away from him.

He was quite serious but I asked why he thought she was a dead/ ghost? He said because she is wearing a long coat and a bonnet type hat.
AIBU to suggest that this woman isn't dead, isn't a ghost and is an odd lady with a strange fashion sense?
He is quite firm she is a ghost, and walks along the path but not on it though the trees.

personally I am glad we are going on holiday soon my hubby really needs it asap.
Then again AIBU?

But there has not been a single incident any sort of paranormal activity that has not been shown, on investigation, to have a perfectly rational explanation

That you know of Bertrand. Discounting, of course, investigations kept out of the public eye.

TooManyPaws · 18/07/2018 16:47

That's not right. No ghost photo has ever managed any more credibility than those 'phenomena' like seeing the face of God in a pizza.

In your narrow closed mind perhaps. You wouldn't believe if Anne Boleyn herself tap danced in front of you with her head under her arm, as you would just stick your fingers in your ears and go lalalala. That's not science as science is self-correcting in the face of evidence - which is why university departments are studying parapsychology and what we currently term the paranormal. There are things that still baffle and are still being studied. You and the other closed-minded bores are just broken records.

TooManyPaws · 18/07/2018 16:53

Needless to say, the Luddites who discount any experience have turned yet another interesting thread into a boring argument. I do wish that they'd just leave those of us who are open to the unexplained to it. Same old, never changes, knee jerk boredom.

Plimmy · 18/07/2018 16:59

This thread is AIBU? It's asking for views, not a catalogue of ghost stories.

I think the work of sceptics in challenging nonsense and misconceptions is extremely valuable.

BertrandRussell · 18/07/2018 17:00

"There are things that still baffle and are still being studied"

What sort of things?

jwalkden · 18/07/2018 17:40

Ghosts are quite real. I have seen two in my lifetime (one of them was also seen at the same time by my husband). My dad and sister see them also as have many people all around the world. They tend to appear quite solid, then fade away (well the ones I have seen have anyway). It is equally possible that this is someone dressing up. Why not go and see for yourself - and if you see them, try to interact and see what happens.

Smudge100 · 18/07/2018 17:41

I‘m a bit perturbed by Readyfortheschoolhols‘ post. If the ghost moves house when you do, it means it‘s STALKING you. Could be a compliment, I suppose but personally i‘d rather leave the disincarnate behind on changing location.

PanPanPanPing · 18/07/2018 17:45

lowresidue, the 'well in the woods' might have existed as a well next to a remote cottage in the woods. The cottage and well might well (excuse the pun) be long gone by now.

BertrandRussell · 18/07/2018 17:49

I don't think that's what a Luddite is........

LuluJakey1 · 18/07/2018 17:54

I have posted this before. If anyone wants to offer explanations I am happy to consider them but neither DH nor I can find one.

A few years ago, we stayed in a cottage in Ireland for a fortnight. It was fantastic- converted old farm building in the grounds of a Georgian house. Very beautiful place, lake next to it, really peaceful. It had a walled garden that the only access i to was frm the cottage. On our last night we had been sitting outside the front door on the patio looking over the lake, having a last drink and eating and enjoying the amazing sunset, talking about the holiday, looking through photos.

We went in about half 9 to wash up and have an early night because we had to be up early to get to the ferry near Belfast. It wasn't dark but dusky and we had a lamp on. We left the front door open into the big sittingroom/kitchen from the patio. The sink was infront of a window that looked onto the walled garden and we both saw a woman walk past us behind us in the reflection in the window. She was not looking at us, just walking across the kitchen behind us as if she had come in from outside and was going towards the bedroom.

She just looked real and we both turned expecting to see her walking towards the bedroom but there was nothing. DH actually went and looked in the bedroom and bathroom. There was no way out through there unless she had opened our bedroom window and climbed out. The door into the walled garden was locked and was past us in the kitchen.

I was terrified. DH was too but pretended he wasn't. We locked the door, turned all the lights on and shut the curtains and blinds - no idea what we thought that would do. We were trying to find explanations but just couldn't. We didn't sleep well, not a wink and were at the ferry ( a 2 hr drive away) by 7.30am am the next morning.

Next time we spoke to the bloke who owns it, who we know vaguely, DH asked if anyone else had ever mentioned anything odd happening. He said, without us saying what had happened, 'Did you see a woman in the kitchen? I have never seen her but a few people have said they have'.

She looked real, was probably in her mid 30s, early 40s, had shortish hair and was wearing a shirt/dress (only saw to the waist). Not old fashioned as such but could have been 1960s/70s onwards - just plain shirt collared thing.

Never went back. Beautiful cottage but would not go again. It was just unexplainable then and I still can't explain it. We have often tried to explain it.

We had drank hardly anything so didn't imagine it. DH passes out after more than 3 drinks anyway and I am not a big drinker- can go months without a drink. I think we had two drinks each and I didn't finish mine.

We are not people who believe in ghosts particularly but we can't explain what we saw. I would be interested in anything anyone else can suggest.

Wineallthetime · 18/07/2018 18:10

'Nobody ever sees the ghost of a caveman or hippy'

Well actually a dude with long hair and a guitar used to walk up and down our corridor at university! I never saw him but my housemates did, and no they weren't pissed or high!

I was always a bit specpitcal but I never rule out anything, hey people believe the earth was flat once so you never know...Until I worked in a very old building, everyone who worked there said the same thing. Things would move, you'd stand at the till and glance to the left thinking there was someone there, there wasn't and the lights, till, all electrics would frequently blow even though numerous electricians couldn't find anything wrong. This used to happen in bright beautiful sunshine all year round. So people don't just experience things in the dark as many are suggesting! Can't explain my experience as I never 'saw' anything but something wasn't right in that shop!

Op you need to go with him, see if she appears and say hello!

Arian1 · 18/07/2018 18:11

Having some experience with ghosts...if they try to levitate you..dont get scared, just enjoy the experience. Just dont go over a cliff or water incase they choose that moment to drop you.enjoy!!!!

Boulty · 18/07/2018 18:18

Tell him to take a picture and share it on here

coolncalm · 18/07/2018 18:28

BertrandRussel do you have an explanation for what Lulu and her husband experienced?

Rabblemum · 18/07/2018 18:31

You can still be sane and believe in UFOs, David Ike theories and that the world is flat, so ghosts are nothing. If your husband starts changing for the worse, getting manic or hearing voices get help.

coolncalm · 18/07/2018 18:34

My DM always told me it's the living you have to be afraid of not the dead. I think perhaps ghosts are souls that haven't completed their journey, maybe a little unfinished business on earth still.

Scarriff · 18/07/2018 18:35

Of course there are ghosts. Ive seen two myself. The screen between this world and the rest can thin at times. It would be interesting for your hub to address this ghost. Ask if she wants anything? Wait for the answer which might come via a thought popping into his head.

Viperama · 18/07/2018 18:41

I’ve seen one. In a old hotel in LA. I used to be airline crew and when i heard my door opening I was pissed off, as I’ve had it happen in Copenhagen and also Marseilles where the rest of the crew went out for dinner but I stayed behind to rest. Both times cheeky hotel staff were coming into our rooms to go through our stuff when they thought we were out.
Anyway in LA I thought ffs here we go again, except when I turned my door had not opened but there was a petite woman with a headscarf over her head, making her way to the bathroom (to empty that bin first I suppose) hairs on my body stood up as I fumbled to turn on the bedside lamp, I knew it was a ghost. By the time I got the light on she’d reached the loo. And was gone.
I was not asleep. I turned on tele and think it was Oprah i watched for a few hours. I then said “if you are still here, I’d really like you to please go away, I need to sleep and you’ve scared me, I’m going to sleep now”
And that was that.
I’ve had other minor experiences but this took the biscuit for me really. This was 1999/2000

LynetteScavo · 18/07/2018 18:48

I live MN ghost threads.

OP tells about a ghost sighting.

Followed by many other tales of ghost experiences.

And several posters saying *There is no such thing as ghosts!"

I think if so many people have seen ghosts there must be a scientific explanation, we just haven't got it yet.

I do know people who have seen ghosts on a Monday morning, and when not alone.

Just because we haven't seen something, and it hasn't been scientifically proven yet doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

RaubahnsLeftArm · 18/07/2018 18:56

I do hope there's going to be an update.

My 5 year old worries about ghosts, I tell him our parrot keeps them away :D

coolncalm · 18/07/2018 19:06

This is it exactly, and they have no obligation to provide the kind of proof that people seem to require. I'm sure that most ghosts don't make any effort, or even want to be seen, but sometimes they just flit through into our world accidentally.

pteradactyl · 18/07/2018 19:09

I love ghost stories. I've seen two I think. The one that really stands out is when I was at a friend's house, flipped upside down on her swingset. Saw a lady in her 50s, floral dress, grey hair, walking towards me smiling with her arms held out. She was walking from the end of the garden, which backed onto a garden of a house in another street so I knew she hadn't come from the house. My friend was younger than me so wanting to protect her from the stranger I flipped myself right way up and nobody was there. It definitely wasn't my imagination...I'm sure I could imagine something far more exciting than that to be haunting me. As far as I could work out, my friend saw nothing and I didn't mention it, just took her back in the house and made my excuses!
Not just seeing ghosts, but also i have had inexplainable things happen to me on many occasions that I have no explanation For, rational or otherwise!

dwab45 · 18/07/2018 19:31

Do you think he his making his excuses b4 he gets caught with his trousers down.

Zaphodsotherhead · 18/07/2018 19:43

I've no idea about ghosts and their reality - I've seen things on occasion that I can't explain, but that just means I can't explain them, not that they are necessarily woo.

But I might have been a ghost once.

Riding my horse up on the moors on a sandy track, in fog. We were galloping along, and then I heard people talking further up the lane. I slowed down, not wanting to hurtle through their picnic, and we walked on, down the track, didn't see the people (it was very foggy), and home. My horse wasn't shod, so, in effect, those people heard an invisible horse galloping towards them, then the sound suddenly stopping (ie, the horse 'vanishing'). He made no real audible sound on the sand with bare hooves, but a lot of thumping when moving fast.

I sometimes wonder what those people actually thought had happened. We never caught sight of one another, but they sounded very close.

PanPanPanPing · 18/07/2018 19:46

If that's the case, dwab45, why would he tell his wife, the OP, about the strange woman in the first place? Surely he wouldn't mention BonnetWoman at all?!
