Not to have a clue what these symbols mean?! (grill oven...)

Stupid question alert.

Just moved into a new house. In-built oven, completely different symbols to any that I’ve used before! No manual - tried looking online but I only have a manufacturer, and there are hundreds of manuals!

I’m trying to grill some corn on the cob. You think this would be simple. I’m struggling Blush the dial on the left is temperature (and then maybe half and quarter strength or something? Looking at the line at the top and two arrows...)

And then the other dial is 1-8 but seems to go from three arrows down to a blank/black square.... is 1 the strongest grill then?!

I just want some corn! Sad

1 would be the lowest setting on the grill, 8 the highest.

thenightsky · 15/07/2018 17:50

That makes no sense? Are the top symbols anything to do with dials even? Are there any other buttons that make the top symbols light up at all?

HoleyCoMoley · 15/07/2018 17:53

1 is lowest, 8 is highest grill section. The other numbers are oven temperatures. The boxes with the flames and lines will be oven, half grill, full grill. Can you Google the make of oven for instructions, you might just have to boil the corn then fry it off with lashings of black pepper and butter.

GlitteryPenguin · 15/07/2018 17:54

Not that I can find thenightsky! There is a function button further along but that just seems to set a timer... haberpop you’d think so, but the corn seems to be cooking just as slowly as when it’s on 8 and 1! And what would the black square mean?!

The dial on the left us temperature for the oven but at the top left of that dial is the grill setting.

So put left dial to the top setting for grill and right dial to however hot you want the grill.

HelloEllo · 15/07/2018 17:56

is temperature

ClashCityRocker · 15/07/2018 17:57

I reckon you need to put the one on the left on to the grill signal, and the one on the right will be the heat settings.

Otherwise it would just be a top oven.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 15/07/2018 17:58

Your grill is also a top oven. The temp numbers on the left are for when it is on oven setting as opposed to grill HTH

slashlover · 15/07/2018 17:58

Left hand side oven temp then full grill or half grill, right hand side grill temp possibly?

ClashCityRocker · 15/07/2018 17:58

As in that top bit can be used as both a grill or an oven. The way you have it now, yiu have it as an oven.

Need to turn it to the grill setting.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 15/07/2018 17:59

Box far left is full grill, box far right is half grill, box with plain black bit is top oven

HoleyCoMoley · 15/07/2018 17:59

Is it a double oven. Our grill light box is 3 half diamonds, top oven is two lines, fan oven has a pic of a fan.

GlitteryPenguin · 15/07/2018 18:03

OHHHH QUITE POSSIBLY those who said top oven! Not had one of those before - fancy! Let me give it a go - I’ll let you know...

I turned the left to the two triangles... It is browning right in front of my eyes! Thank you Mumsnetters! Grin

Unless it's quite an old oven there should be a product information plate somewhere easily visible. The information you need to download a manual will be on there. It can take a bit of care to distinguish between product number, model number or, if it's a Miele, material number.

There are independent websites that claim to stock all the manuals ever printed. If you can't get one from the manufacturer, these are worth a try; Espares is one, Manualslib is another.
