I am upset by it and it was rude.

I got told I’d be a knock out ‘if I lost some weight’ Hmm

I have gained weight and I’m not happy about it at all. I’m not very tall and to get to a healthy BMI I need to lose three stone.

I have decided to sign up for a VLCD as a starting point.

Aibu to ask for your support Smile

What is a vlcd?

Seasawride · 15/07/2018 13:05

Yes use the comment to be strong and determined. I had similar 5 years ago as I had gained about 2 stone. I lost it because of a friends jokey comment.

Good for you.

TwoBlueShoes · 15/07/2018 13:05

Don't sign up for a VLCD, that isn't a long-term solution.

If you want to lose weight, then just make a few small changes to your daily diet.

The person was very rude to say that though.

Shadow1986 · 15/07/2018 13:11

If you’re not happy the size you are then do something but if you are, ignore the stupid comment. I lost two stone since having my last baby. I weighed myself every tues morning. My aim was to loose 0.5 or 1lbs a week. I had smoothies for breakfast, eggs or salad for lunch, and a healthy but normal ish dinner. Healthy snacks in between. Would still have spaghetti Bol for example but made the sauce from scratch with 5% mince, used wholewheat pasta and didn’t have garlic bread. The body coach has some great recipe books for quick meals. I also joined a gym. I went from not being able to run for 30 seconds to being able to do my first 10km. Baby is now two and I’m so much healthier and fitter. My advice would be make those small changes, and don’t loose the weight too fast as just goes straight back on.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 15/07/2018 13:13

I was told once that ‘You’d be alright if I liked straight lines’ due to the fact I was very slim.

I think it just boils down the fact that there’s a lot of dickheads out there.

Clinicallysilly · 15/07/2018 13:14

The Dr. Michael Mosley blood sugar diet would be a better way to lose weight than an extreme vlcd one. Also you need to introduce exercise to tone up and cut down your portion sizes. Vlcd's are crash diets, you'll gain it back really quickly as it's not sustainable.

pinkdelight · 15/07/2018 13:15

I lost three stone on a vlcd. Got gallstones and have also put the weight back on. Trying to lose it again through healthier, more sustainable methods now.

Hueandcry · 15/07/2018 13:17

Do it for yourself & not because of what someone else said. Can't comment on the method as I still don't know what it means

sirmione16 · 15/07/2018 13:19

It was a nasty comment from my own mother that made me change. (Comment about my skin I have severe eczema) put me on a road of specialists, light therapy and better diet when before I'd just accepted it to a manageable point.

People say to ignore the haters etc but for me it felt empowering to do it as a "f u" to the world. But I'm generally a stubborn, strong minded person anyway. At the end of the day, I did it for me, for my confidence and to show I could do it - I didn't do it to please her. I made the choice.

I think as long as you're still doing it for you, that's a healthy mind set. You're in control, not others. Good luck with either route you choose! :)

changelife1607 · 15/07/2018 13:19

Well, I’m planning on losing the weight quickly - that’s the point, really. Thank you.

VLCD probably not great, you'd lose loads of water weight and then put it right back on again, Shadows approach would be a better long term approach.

Babysharkdoodoodoo · 15/07/2018 13:24

What's a vlcd?

BonApp · 15/07/2018 13:25

Very Low Carb Diet?

bluemascara · 15/07/2018 13:25

Which vlcd? Cambridge?
Please don't. It will make you miserable and the minute you come off it you will put it back on
Go for calorie control... you can track on my fitness pal.
Or even slimming world or weight watchers. You gotta be happy doing it otherwise you will associate weight loss with misery

imwideawake · 15/07/2018 13:26

Yes, what is VLCD?

Oysterbabe · 15/07/2018 13:26

Don't lose weight because of what some dickhead said, who cares what they think? Lose it because you want to. And I agree that VLCD will make you completely miserable, there's no need to choose an extreme route.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 15/07/2018 13:27

VLCD = very low calorie diet

imwideawake · 15/07/2018 13:27

ok. got it Smile

changelife1607 · 15/07/2018 13:27

Blimey, I do want to lose the weight. Obviously Hmm who wants to be fat!?

OP posts:
Hellohellohowareyou · 15/07/2018 13:27

Look at Richie Howey on fb before you sign up. You really don’t need a VLCD to lose weight, yes you’ll lose it quickly but probably be starving and miserable - I’ve been there!

I have lost 1.5 stone in 10 weeks but tracking calories (1600 a day) and doing around 2/3 hours exercise a week. Still got just under 4 stone to lose before I get to what is classed as a healthy BMI but I’m getting there and most importantly still enjoying what I eat and not feeling hungry

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2018 13:27

I thought the c stood for calorie

kaitlinktm · 15/07/2018 13:29

I did a vlcd a few years ago. Yes, I lost the weight quickly - although I did find it depressingly life-limiting. However, my hair also thinned quite a lot, has never recovered and ten years later looks a right mess, and I put the weight back on as soon as I started eating normally. (VLCDs are not sustainable for very long). So now I am fat with horrible hair. Please at least consider a longer-term, slower method which is more sustainable.

Also, I have never been able to fully understand why I find it so annoying that a rude commenter should be given the credit for someone losing weight. Rude comments always made me want to say fuck what you think and eat cake - but that's just me. Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/07/2018 13:30

Definitely agree with the blood sugar diet, rather than a VLCD. Really nourishing, kick the carbs, feel amazing. No one should say what that person did to you, but to be honest, before I started my diet in January I used to say far worse to myself.

6 months in, I have lost 2.5stone, stopped from a size 14 to a size 8. It’s totally possible if you’re prepared to make The changes.

trojanpony · 15/07/2018 13:30

As someone who has done VLCD (three times)
I do not recommend it.
If I could rewind time it is the ONE thing in my life I would change.
I am terrified to think what I did to my organs and what the long term impact on my liver will be (I was hospitalised at one point and my liver was severely inflammed)

I do strongly recommend making a big change if you want to though.
Diet and exercise is the key.
(if you can afford it - I realise now everyone can)signing up for a fitness boot camp like trimmer you or prestige for a week (some women did 2 weeks)is an amazing HEALTHY way to get off to a flying start.
I lost 12lbs in a week and kept it off because I kept to the diet and exercise plans when I got back.

In total I lost 4.5 stone over 9/10 months and have kept it off for over 3 years.
It’s my most successful diet ever because I changed my lifestyle and the way I eat

I know how unhappy my weight made me and I feel so sad I wasted so much time hating myself and punishing my body by starving it with powdered garbage

Emmageddon · 15/07/2018 13:31

I was once told that I'd have a perfect figure if I had more 'up top' - and no, the twat in question wasn't referring to my intellect. Obviously I immediately booked myself in for tit inflation surgery. I'm lying

Re the vlcd be wary of messing up your metabolism. But good luck with your weight loss.
