WIBU to cut my own thumb off?

MsFrizzle · 15/07/2018 01:12

Okay, yes, I would. But still.

I have loads of tiny little hole-like things all over the tip of my thumb that explode into blisters and then go away and keep coming back :( I already have psoriasis as it is so I don't know what it could be. It isn't enough of a bother to go poke a doctor, it's just really gross.

Wanting to cut your thumb off probably warrants a doctor tbh.

TheMaddHugger · 15/07/2018 01:14

Pic please? I've got no idea what you are trying to describe Sorry (((Hug)))

Hello,
These little holes can be due to contact dermatitis or pompholyx. Pompholyx is also called dyshidrotic eczema. It is characterized by a sudden onset of many deep-seated pruritic, clear vesicles which itch and then peel off. As a result the skin may also fissure.

Yeah, google pointed me to dyshidrotic eczema. It's weird because I've never had it before this summer and it just...suddenly happened. If it comes up again I'll go to the doctors!

I can do a pic if I can figure out how to attach one but it's a bit grim looking. Makes my skin crawl.

I had this with eczema, it sucked. But GPs can prescribe cream. Maybe go see the pharmacist if you’re really against seeing the GP?

TheMaddHugger · 15/07/2018 01:22

Maybe ?? _

Dyshidrosis, also known as dyshidrotic eczema or pompholyx, is a skin condition in which very small, fluid-filled blisters appear on the palms of your hands and the sides of your fingers. The soles of your feet also can be affected.Mar 6, 2018

ahh Cross Posted. probably that then. See your Doctor Smile ((((Hugs)))

condepetie · 15/07/2018 01:29

It's dishydrotic eczema/pompholyx. I have it too. Normal steroid creams like hydrocortisone won't help at all.

The only thing that ever helped me was Elocon cream, and that only helped with one flareup. When it came back, elocon did nothing. I have Synalar currently and it was nowhere near as effective on my last flareup. It's been fairly chilled out for a while, just a few blisters on my feet in certain patches, but I dread the next big flare.

Ask your doctor for Elocon because that was a miracle cream for me the first time. Hopefully for you it won't stop working after one round.

condepetie · 15/07/2018 01:32

It looks horrific especially if you're peering up close. Just all these little holes in your skin covered with translucent skin. I get them all up the sides of my fingers as well as all over the soles and sides of my feet.

At the moment just a couple of big blisters around the sides, all little ones that have ended up merging. Not much on my fingers, just the odd circular pattern of peeling skin that comes from the occasional blister that heals on its own. Massive sore patch on the side of my heel where blisters merged, burst, peeled, left the raw skin.

Sound familiar at all?

BloodiedButUnbowed · 15/07/2018 01:40

What? WHAT???? I get this too! I did NOT know what it was called, but I get it on my fingers and feet. They itch so much that (sorry for TMI) I usually bite the blisters on my fingers between my teeth until they burst. So no, YADNBU to want to cut your own thumb off!

MsFrizzle · 15/07/2018 01:47

Sound familiar at all?

Yes! It's not on my feet (please no, I have enough psoriasis and arthritis in my body thank you please don't hurt my feet too) but the translucent skin covering tiny holes on my thumb and sometimes my fingers is exactly what it is. They bubble up but I never notice them burst or go weepy - they just turn into peeling raw skin.

@MsFrizzle See your GP, you won't be wasting their time or anything. It came from nowhere all of a sudden for me too - 10 years later I'm still dealing with flareups when I'm stressed. Hopefully it doesn't spread to your feet! But it's most common on fingers and feet. I have both :(

condepetie · 15/07/2018 01:52

And they generally only burst if you actively pop them. If you leave them alone they go all hard, and then start to peel. The finger ones are more forgiving than the foot ones!! I think because they tend to be smaller. On my feet they tend to merge into mega-blisters which go all hard and scabby before peeling away. Boak

noodlezoodle · 15/07/2018 01:56

Another sufferer here. I mostly get it on my feet, occasionally on my fingers too. It goes away for months at a time but it usually appears in very warm weather/heat. Steroid cream definitely helps and do try not to scratch it if you can help it (which I usually can't, argh).

PenelopeFlintstone · 15/07/2018 01:57

I haven't got this but I feel sorry for you all!

Rozbos · 15/07/2018 01:57

I have this!!!! On my fingers of both hands. It started when I was pregnant with my eldest 7 years ago. My dr though it was an allergy to my rings so I stopped wearing them for several months to no avail and have managed it with strong steroids ever since assuming it was just eczema. Thanks op, its great to have an answer!

gluteustothemaximus · 15/07/2018 02:27

Fucks sake. So this is what I have.

On my feet. Started about 5 years ago. Gets worse in the heat. Very very itchy. Wonder if it’s stress related too.

Murine · 15/07/2018 07:51

Oh my goodness I used to have this! I never visited a GP because I didn’t want to bother them with a sore finger but my god it was sore and so itchy, I wish I had now!
I tried all sorts: antihistamine cream, moisturisers, hydrocortisone, but Lush’s charity pot cream seemed to help a lot....unless of course it was disappearing on its own anyway and it was pure coincidence, but thought it might be worth mentioning just in case.

barnacharmer · 15/07/2018 07:57

I have this too, GP and pharmacist recommendations were all useful. The best thing is body shop hemp hand protector, I know a few other people who get it and we all use it

Fuckedoffat48b · 15/07/2018 08:03

Pomphylox eczema

jubbablub · 15/07/2018 08:20

I had this a few years ago. It can be caused by sweating, so seems likely that you would be getting it in this ridiculous heat wave.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 15/07/2018 08:46

I used to get these... then I developed Reynards. I’ve never seen any connection anywhere but then got with my DP and he used to get them and then it also developed into Reynards... 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheWineDarkSea · 15/07/2018 08:52

I get these andnyave for years - Savlon cream, fabric plaster and leave thebplater on for as long as possible (try and avoid getting it wet) is the quickest way to soothe and clear it for me.

falconrising · 15/07/2018 08:55

I've had this , a few years ago. Had it for a couple years then it went. Best cream I tried was from Nu Skin. You use a mix of 3 different creams, ask them about dishydrotic eczema and they'll be able to tell you the mix needed
