Growth spurt towards the end of the year

Would you bother buying new uniform if your DC had a growth spurt a month before the end of the school year?

Yep. But that’s because my cousin didn’t and her daughter was ridiculed all for the sake of a pair of new trousers.

Mine get new uniform around Easter

Not sure why everyone feels the need for a September splurge! They either need clothes or they done

Much easier to spread the cost - and the shirts are lovely and white for the summer no blazer months

YoYotheclown · 15/07/2018 00:39

It depends how the clothes fit. If it was very noticeable and uncomfortable for the child then yes I would buy a bigger size
( they will wear it in the new term anyway)

My DD was ridiculed because her PE kit didn't fit - she had knickers on that looked like short shorts (but obviously the rest of the kids knew she was in just her knickers), and the school gave her a t-shirt to wear. The rest of her uniform was ok

Not if it's the last term of the year, though!

You can wear uniform clothes out of school though. They can be worn around the house if nothing else...

I wouldn’t wear clothes a size too small for wor, so why should s child got school? I’d always buy more. A month is a long time.

You made her wear knickers for PE? Poor girl. A pair of plain black/navy cycling shorts are not expensive and would do the job just fine. She could even wear them over summer so won’t go to waste.

I would maybe stretch out a slightly too short skirt or polo shirt if it was 2 weeks to the end of term and I was skint but to be honest I did just pick up a couple of plain polos for DDs last two weeks of school - from Poundland. £2 to see her through. She also wore her new trainers to school for the last week as I wanted to wait to the end of summer before buying them.

If something is really really short and too tight then it does need replacing, if your child is about to leave/ change school then check charity shops/ second hand school shop etc. It just had to fit and be wareable for a couple of weeks.

I'm confused... your child is at end of yr11 so it's the last few weeks ever in uniform? That would be good reason not to buy more. Mind, you can get BNWT trousers for £2.50 delivered off of Ebay right now, btw (preowned but completely unused).

Sounds like OP is saying they would always buy new for start of new school year; see other thread about that, many people don't automatically buy new just because it's September. Your money to waste as you see fit.

ReadingRiot · 15/07/2018 09:45

It depends how bad it is. I'd make sure they had what they need, so I can't imagine the pe kit situation you describe.

However, handy hint for slightly too short trousers, loosen the adjustable waist so they sit a bit lower on the hips and you can gain an inch or so Smile

PattiStanger · 15/07/2018 09:48

So is it your child's last term at that school?

If so it would obviously be stupid to buy new uniform, maybe try to get some 2nd hand.

If not why can't they be worn in September?

It doesn't seem like there's an issue here

BoxsetsAndPopcorn · 15/07/2018 09:49

Yes, I'd replace. I hate seeing clothes that are too big/small/stained etc on children. I wouldn't walk round in clothes that were too short so wouldn't expect my children to either.

You made her do PE in her knickers rather than buy her a pair of shorts .... words fail me. Who does that.
