Another Tory sex scandal

After all the previous publicity.

After all the cautionary tales.

Another man caught sexting.

BBC link This time, it's the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Small Business, MP for Burton and the former Chief of Staff to Theresa May, Andrew Griffiths.

Mirror link He sent over 2000 texts to two of his constituents!! 😱

What goes through their minds?

High position, married with children, great responsibilities and he screws up like this?

AIBU, or should MPs have all correspondence, texts, emails and phone calls monitored?

I can be sacked for bringing my organisation into disrepute. This can be by something as careless as a public twitter or Facebook comment, which is why I have neither of those social media accounts. I am nowhere near as 'public' as he is, nor do I hold the level of responsibility he does. Although the idea of bringing the Tories into any more disrepute than they already are... is quite laughable.

Mrsharrison · 15/07/2018 13:04

Anyone can be sacked for making public statements on social media.
I just think private correspondence should be just that - private.
Obviously exceptions are national security and anything illegal.

ScreamingValenta · 15/07/2018 13:10

The problem is, he's brought his job into the sexting - 'Daddy's been busy running the country' and similar. Frankly, he should have had more sense. I wouldn't want someone foolish enough to do this representing me as my MP.

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2018 13:32

Yes agree it could be any mp. I just had Cameron in mind specifically.

masterClasses · 15/07/2018 14:14

"should MPs have all correspondence, texts, emails and phone calls monitored?"

Of course they fucking shouldn't.

Why do you think your morality is somehow correct?

NewYearNewMe18 · 15/07/2018 14:39

He'd have to go some to be worse than Keith Vaz, your friendly washing machine repair man!

I cant get worked up about sex scandals. Here you have a pair of women who are quite happy to milk him for cash. There's a word for that, but today we call them sex workers to legitimise their trade. Then they go running for more money to the press. He's a twat. Just like Danzig was set up.

ScrubTheDecks · 15/07/2018 14:51

The women weren’t especially young. The one who went to the papers is 28. If I was being harrsssed by sexually unpleasant texts I would tell the police, not the Mirror.

Not sure what the issue is in calling them bar maids (apart from it being a rather sexist job title), what is the job title of someone who accepts cash for videos of sexual activity?

She doesn’t even manage a ‘sad face’ pose for the photo!

He has done nothing illegal (as far as I know). Personally I find his behaviour despicable, but how far is that my business?

Both ha and T May seem to have found his behaviour not in line with what they see the reputation of the role to be, and that’s up to them, I suppose. Paying women to dress as pigs or be spanked doesn’t fit the image of a women’s rights campaigner, but then again fantasy and RL really are different. The fact that he got so hooked on it as to be so recklessly indiscreet perhaps shows it was getting the better of him and he was losing professional perspective.

For all we know his wife watches over his shoulder and gets off in it. I suspect not, but we don’t know because it is private.

MPs don’t have regular work time. What about the one who does a f/t job as a judge while being an MP? Is he doing that on taxpayers money?

MPs work evenings, weekends in, holidays. Total flexitime.

Gottagetmoving · 15/07/2018 15:05

Anyone this stupid should not hold a responsible position.
Sending texts like that and trusting they will stay private? The man is a total plank.
Sadly,....lots o Tories are total planks.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 15/07/2018 16:36

There’s no such thing as truly private correspondence,by including another you widen the circle

Anyone this stupid should not hold a responsible position.
Sending texts like that and trusting they will stay private?
⬆️⬆️⬆️ Yup that about covers it

Vanity,ego,lust all impaired his judgement

LadyWithLapdog · 15/07/2018 17:31

Women making so many excuses for appalling behaviour during work hours. Oh it's flexi-time, oh it's none of our business, oh people do much worse. Have a bit of self-respect. This is a Tory we pay for whose brains are not engaged in the job he's being paid for.

Seasawride · 15/07/2018 17:35

He’s a vile vain idiot.

Not sure why you point out he’s tory? Plenty of stupid men of all politics

ScrubTheDecks · 15/07/2018 17:44

He is a plank, and I would not use my vote to re-elect him.

But there’s a difference between ‘making excuses’ for sleazy men and upholding a principle over privacy, etc when someone has not broken the law. And it IS flexi time.

We are a secular democratic country. We do not police people’s legal personal morals as a state. Though we can of course make our own choices about how we chose to support, or not, people with certain behaviours.

But subjective judgement of morals is actually what held women back for centuries. What women / married women were and were not allowed to do to be considered ‘decent’ etc. Ride bikes, train to be a doctor, wear trousers, be seen out with a man, etc. Be careful what you wish for.

LadyWithLapdog · 15/07/2018 17:45

I point out he's Tory because they are in government and they banged on about back to basics (Major who was having an affair with Edwina Currie) etc etc. I loathe them.

LadyWithLapdog · 15/07/2018 17:47

Why are you banging on about flexi time? Do you think he scrupulously checked himself when sending the 2000 texts to ensure muggins wasn't paying for his time then? You choose to think the best of him. Internalised oppression.

HelenaDove · 15/07/2018 18:12

Bar workers dont get paid a hell of a lot do they. They are quite likely to be claiming UC.

Putting women in low paid jobs in the position where they have to claim a precarious benefit (which this party is responsible for) and then taking advantage of their socio economic position is doubly sick.

mindlessobsessions · 15/07/2018 20:09

it's worse than that though isn't it helena? Wanting a woman to dress up as an animal, doesn't that imply that he believes that these woman are lower class animals that need a good beating?

It's not like he just wanted a roll in the hay. Maybe I just don't understand the humiliation part of S&M stuff but dressing someone up as an animal, I can't fathom how that could ever be sexy to someone that viewed women as people.

ScrubTheDecks · 15/07/2018 20:43

I’m not ‘banging on’ I’m havjng a discussion Hmm

We may not like what he does ( I don’t) but suggesting that he is using ‘work time’ is not really going to stack up. Being an MP is a function you fulfill with few set parameters regarding your working day. You don’t even have to show up in Parliament that often if you don’t want to. Look how empty it is for most debates. But they do countless stuff at weekends etc.
