To wish that a reporter in a press conference where Trump is banging on about immigration would ask about the fact he has married 2 immigrants

Just that really.

When Trump was asked about immigration yesterday he said it was a bad thing.

Yet Ivana and Melania, and his mother for that matter, are immigrants.

Why does no one pin him down on this?

Like Farage and his German wife?

Bearbehind · 14/07/2018 19:39

Exactly newyear

The hypocrisy and double standards are worse than the initial opinions, and that's saying something.

He doesn't mind white immigrants, he hates the brown ones

scatterolight · 14/07/2018 19:41

Because the issue of individual immigrants is different to nation/continent-changing mass immigration of unsustainable numbers of people?

You can like immigrants individually as people without thinking you need open fucking borders and limitless numbers of the pouring in with no thought to the consequences.

How are you so dumb as to not understand this?

Justanotherlurker · 14/07/2018 19:45

Illegal Immigration =/= Immigration in general.

I suppose he has only been saying that distinction for over 2 years....

Bearbehind · 14/07/2018 19:45

In that case redpanda why is he so pro-Brexit?

Actually, scrap that, there's plenty of Brexiteers who think leaving the EU will get rid of the brown ones.

No. It is the same issue. It's hypocritical to think otherwise.

HTH

Bearbehind · 14/07/2018 19:47

scatter your reply would be funny if it wasn't serious.

You are basically saying immigrant that suit you are ok, but the rest aren't.

OP posts:
scatterolight · 14/07/2018 19:53

Bear No. It's about NUMBERS. You can like individual immigrants and still think immigration must be limited to sustainable levels.

You people are arguing that you are de facto racist if you don't want millions and of people pouring into your country. No limits ever is the only non racist position. You're all fucking insane and high on your own moral virtue signalling.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 14/07/2018 19:58

@scatter exactly.

We cannot day strain the number of people we have in this country, we certainly cannot cope with more. The housing and infrastructure is just not there and we do all citizens (immigrant or otherwise) a disservice by allowing this to continue.

I do not include refugees in this as I think we have a global duty to take as many as we can. But I do think we need a migration policy that works on a more limited basis.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 14/07/2018 19:59

sustain not strain.

Unfinishedkitchen · 14/07/2018 20:04

His immigrant wife is one of the numbers so if you say numbers are the problem then Melania is a problem.

Bearbehind · 14/07/2018 20:22

OMFG, what happens if one of your 'good' immigrants is number 101 in a 100 limit intake?

What did Ivana or Melania have to offer that made them a 'good' immigrant as opposed to others?

OP posts:
Nancydrawn · 14/07/2018 20:23

It wouldn't particularly matter.

It's not that he makes the separation of immigrants and immigration, as previous posters have said.

It's that there are some countries that he welcomes immigrants from and others that he doesn't. This is where his 'shithole countries' comment comes from. He would be fine with high immigration from the UK, for instance, or from much of Western Europe. Potentially even from Eastern Europe, where his wives come from, though I'm not sure he's thought the question through. He doesn't make an immigration/immigrant distinction from Western countries.

What he doesn't like is immigrationor, on the whole, the individual immigrants themselves by Latinos, Arabs, Africans, or most other people of color. [Not sure where he stands on those from East Asia, though I suspect he's fine with the Japanese and not great about, say, the Vietnamese.]

In short, he is a racist.

DesignStatement · 14/07/2018 20:28

Trump is the child of an immigrant, a Scot who emigrated to the USA.

Poloshot · 14/07/2018 20:32

Presumably 2 legal immigrants

Nancydrawn · 14/07/2018 20:36

Presumably 2 legal immigrants

Actually, for what it's worth, there are serious questions about Melania's visa. Not conspiratorial questions, but reasonable ones, including whether she worked on a tourist visa when she arrived. Currently, they are mooting stripping naturalized citizens for similar offenses. He doesn't particularly care about that hypocrisy.

Again, it's not a question of legality, it's a question of race. Although I suspect he would make exceptions for any beautiful woman that he wanted for himself.
