Pray for Salisbury

Gosh I feel so much for the people living there and that there is an object somewhere there that contains a deadly nerve agent that anyone could pick up and die from. The police have said they have no idea where it is and just hope once the guy can speak he can tell them.

Must be so awful for parents and for the local economy, I really am praying they find it ok

gotta die from something

LostInShoebiz · 11/07/2018 08:38

Yes, but ideally not in excruciating pain as a nerve agent shuts down your body. What a twattish reply lljkk.

StopCloudSeeding · 11/07/2018 08:41

I don't know if that can have been left over from the first attack, how long it is lethal for but I seriously doubt it has anything to do with Russia.
If Russia intended to kill anyone it would have been done efficiently and they certainly would not have left random amounts of nerve agent lying around.

bunnibearchi · 11/07/2018 08:41

What a stupid comment!! It's about as bad as being hung drawn and quartered! Slow painful deaths are nothing like instant painless.

God knows what will happen if a child picks up the package.

It's active for 50 years! Sorry should have said in op.

OP posts:
Cismyass · 11/07/2018 08:52

Sorry missing the point but surely you'd die when hung, so the drawn and quartered was just performance art?

Velvetbee · 11/07/2018 08:54

They hang you until you’re nearly dead so a bit asphyxiated I guess.

JJS888 · 11/07/2018 08:56

Russia are hardly likely to poison members of the public during their world cup. Porton Down is nearby. It's like that episode of Shameless where they steal a van full of meat which was on its way to Porton down and wipe out half the estate

ghostyslovesheets · 11/07/2018 08:56

I wont pray no - not religious so pointless

it's obviously worrying for people living there but I think you are being a tad melodramatic OP

ghostyslovesheets · 11/07/2018 08:57

Oh and they hang you until you are almost dead (not from a gallows so you are totally dead) then pull your gizzards out while alive - cut you up when dead (unless you survive the gizzards bit which is unlikely)

Velvetbee · 11/07/2018 08:59

I don’t pray either but PIL live there and we live 40 minutes away. We were in Zizzis on 4th March too. We’ve been over more than we would normally to shop and support businesses in the town. I hope they have answers soon.

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2018 08:59

This thread is madness.
Does anyone know what this stuff looks like? Clear liquid? I suppose they don't want to be too specific on case it leads to false reassurance.
Nowhere near these areas BTW.

Argeles · 11/07/2018 09:03

It’s a very frightening situation op, even more so in my opinion, as it happened over 3 months after the initial poisoning took place.

It makes me wonder who will be next to die or fall ill there as a result of poisoning, and when. There was obviously something contaminated out there that the police hadn’t found, otherwise this wouldn’t have happened now, so what else could be ‘discovered’ by some poor innocent person?

LokisLover · 11/07/2018 09:03

I was listening to the world service when I couldn’t sleep the other night and they had a Russian chemical expert and someone else who is an expert in spy stuff (can you tell I was sleepy). The poisoners most likely would have picked up the nerve agent from a drop point, used it in Salisbury then dumped it as soon as possible. They’re hardly going to care about disposing of it safely they just want the job done.

The nerve agent itself can remain active for a long time under the right conditions and more so in dry warm weather. Can’t remember why but I was under the impression it degrades but obvuously not.

CambridgeAnaglypta · 11/07/2018 09:04

I'm guessing from the lifestyle of the latest couple it's likely to be from a discarded beer can or syringe.

JJS888 · 11/07/2018 09:05

I reckon a cleaner knocked over a petri dish at Porton Down, wiped u0 the spill withthwir shoe and have been unknowingly causing WW3 with Russia everytime they walk into towmfor some bananas.

bunnibearchi · 11/07/2018 09:07

Melodramatic?! They've killed a British citizen and left several others fighting for their lives.

An active nerve agent is somewhere in the town and anyone could pick it up at anytime, espically a child. So it's very very concerning

DriftwoodFascinator · 11/07/2018 09:08

I don't believe that the Russian government are behind these poisonings. Putin isn't a good man, but he's far from stupid - no way would he leave such a huge mess behind.

HipHipHippo · 11/07/2018 09:08

stopcloudseeding & JJS888 do you not think this was perhaps Russia trying to make out it wasn't them in the first place?
In a 'oh look, some completely unrelated people seem to have picked this up as well' kind of way...

StableGenius · 11/07/2018 09:11

I often enjoy a trip to Salisbury, the area around the cathedral is so beautiful and they had (I think?) the first girl choristers in the country, so I always want to support them.

I went up there in May and will go again when the Christmas market's in town. I really hope the poisoned man makes a full recovery and is able to tell police what happened that day. RIP his poor partner Sad.

HipHipHippo · 11/07/2018 09:14

I live just outside of Amesbury, and had to drive through both Amesbury and Salisbury to get where I was going. It was a little disheartening seeing all the tape. It felt like we had gone on a little Novichok tour.
But to be honest, the only thing that has changed for me is that I now do my food shopping in Andover!

AdventuresRUs · 11/07/2018 09:27

They've put out a statement on facebook that youre not to pick up any unusual object. Fair enough - the syringes are obvious, but it also says do not pick up "cosmetics or similar objects, made of materials such as metal, plastic or glass." So er lots of things. A particular warning as kids go into summer holidays.

Now I know my kids wouldnt pick up a syringe but they would pick up a pretty old cosmetic item ir random object without thinking. Id be anxious to take them to apark if I lived there.

Were not far away and outdoors most of the summer. I did think it must be really hard for families in Salisbury.

AdventuresRUs · 11/07/2018 09:28

And we have avoided going....

BluthsFrozenBananas · 11/07/2018 09:37

I feel very sorry for the the people of Salisbury, both for the stress of knowing that there’s potentially a deadly something still out there, and for the massive hit their local economy is going to suffer from the loss of the tourist and visitor trade. However ‘Pray for Salisbury’ sounds like the title of a particularly terrible charity single.

bunnibearchi · 11/07/2018 11:20

Well you don't have to be religious to offer someone your thoughts.

They might have the worry of this agent for a decade if it isn't found. That's going to really knock the whole area far back imo. People won't visit or want to move there for many decades.
