DH wants to visit his mother and sister at an outdoor venue near them. Takes an 1hr and 30 minutes one way on a very busy and congested motorway. We will then be out all day with DC 18 months and 4. Forecast is 27 degrees. I think they are mad and saying it's not fair on the kids, given the travel and the heat. They are more than welcome to ours. DH thinks i am being unreasonable as they always travel to us ( errr because we have young children). AIBU? WWYD?

Also we are planning on leaving about at a sensible time to try and avoid traffic but the south east seems so congested at anytime - while at least the stretch of m25 we need to go on

You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din! I just wouldn't do it, because it's unreasonable. If it was to a water park or something like that I'd go, or to the PiL's house, but not to an outdoor venue after (at least) 90 minutes in a car. You can bet that will be more like two and a half hours by the time you're actually getting out of the car.

You were correct in your view that you weren't BU OP. Hopefully your decision is one you're happy with and haven't been pressured into, and your DC will be ok in the heat. Obv take shitloads of water in car etc as per official advice, in case of jams etc.

You're not being unreasonable to not fancy it, but would be unreasonable to refuse IMO.

Especially given they always travel to you.

Yes we will go, leaving DH in charge of organising a picnic though 🙄
