To think this school lunch is a choking hazard?

A picture from Facebook from a local school. The red grapes don't look cut lengthways, I'm guessing due to being almost perfect spheres.

to the PP who said an easy peeler would be better - the only call I've had from school about my reception aged DD this year was when she choked on a segment from an easy peeler Confused

I think kids are just daft, its a wonder any of them make it to adulthood.

You say not cut down enough but is there any evidence that they need to be fully cut? That said, they look fully cut to me.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 11/07/2018 14:01

They look like they are cut lengthwise to me.... it then again my DCs are 20 and 15 and I was told they only needed to be cut until they were around 3 anyway. If they took grapes to school they weren’t cut......

I never cease to be amazed about the utterly banal shit loons on Mumsnet get worked up about.

It's a fucking fruit pot, not a razor blade.

MrsJonesAndMe · 11/07/2018 14:34

I'd be more worried about pizza, bread and potatoes on one plate!

BarbaraofSevillle · 11/07/2018 14:50

I'm just surprised no one has taken issue with the fork being the other way up next to the knife.

SilverySurfer · 11/07/2018 15:05

Fear not, I have the answer: whizz all your child's food in a blender and feed them slop until they are 18. Hmm

Fluffyrainbows · 11/07/2018 15:09

That picture would make me provide a packed lunch! Nothing to do with the grapes it just looks horribly dry and unappetising.

Flisspaps · 11/07/2018 15:20

@PolkaDotAfroCircus the issue with whole grapes is that even if you move a stuck one a tiny bit there's still no space for air to get past, on account of it bring spherical (think of a ball in the neck of a deodorant bottle). Also, if a medic tries to remove it with tongs/tweezers, it's hard to get any purchase due to the spherical shape.

One of those grapes, if shifted by back blows during a choking incident, is likely to move at least enough to allow some air past. Even the half shape also allows someone trying to grip it to get a bit more purchase to because the edge makes it easier to squeeze/grab

Op this child is not mine but it is also NOT a staged photo or fromma website, it was put on Facebook by a parent I know

And you have that parent's consent to repost a FB picture of their child on a public forum which is routinely picked up by the tabloids?

If not you had better report it yourself for removal (and copyright if you don't have consent).

Highfever
Only cut lengthways not into quarters. Still a choking hazard.

This has to be a windup, even the scary report shows grapes cut in half. If not please cite how many children, old enough to feed themselves, died last year after choking on half a grape.

verystressedmum · 11/07/2018 15:44

They're not cut down enough.. what does that mean Confused
The grapes are cut in half lengthways how much more cut down can they get do you want them in quarters?

verystressedmum · 11/07/2018 15:47

You're just changing your stance because you didn't notice they were already cut lengthways Grin
