To think this school lunch is a choking hazard?

A picture from Facebook from a local school. The red grapes don't look cut lengthways, I'm guessing due to being almost perfect spheres.

To think this school lunch is a choking hazard?
OP posts:
Shortstuff08 · 10/07/2018 14:20

You can clearly see the grapes are cut. What's your issue?

MrsJayy · 10/07/2018 14:21

Kids can cope with a carb

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 10/07/2018 14:21

Maybe while PFB is at school you could pop to optician. They are definitely cut lengthways. 🤓

CrackerCrisp · 10/07/2018 14:23

Mine get pizza and potatoes, I don’t understand it.

The grapes are cut length ways.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 10/07/2018 14:23

I’d imagine that’s what the child chose, not what he was forced to take.

SoddingUnicorns · 10/07/2018 14:24

All pisstaking aside OP, are you otherwise concerned about your child starting school?

spanishwife · 10/07/2018 14:24

I'd be more concerned about pizza AND potatoes AND bread with a pathetic portion of green veg!

kaytee87 · 10/07/2018 14:24

Lunch looks horrible but the grapes have been cut.

Justmuddlingalong · 10/07/2018 14:26

My low carbing self is hyperventilating at the main course. Perhaps a packed lunch instead would put your mind at rest, OP.

StillNoClue · 10/07/2018 14:26

Who has pizza, new potatoes and half a slice of baguette.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/07/2018 14:28

Why do they use all that plastic?

Surely there must be a way to avoid it. Maybe complain about that, OP?

MrsJayy · 10/07/2018 14:28

I would eat pizza and a bit of bread

Battleax · 10/07/2018 14:33

Good point about the plastic chard.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 10/07/2018 14:34

It must be quite a posh school though: they don't have the prison style lunch trays that are the default in our area. Proper plates, how nice.

Mummyschnauzer · 10/07/2018 14:36

Meh grapes are cut! - kid looks like like he’s smiling though. They shouldnt be using plastic pots though! I’m guessing there was a choice of food and he just chose what he liked. Surpringly3/4 year olds aren’t great at picking complimentary food for meal planning. Hope you DC had a good introduction to school

blackteaplease · 10/07/2018 14:41

They serve pizza with dry pasta at my kids school. The head has said that as meals need to be balanced they can't add sauce to the pasta. It's on the menu once a week! School meals are weird.

vandrew4 · 10/07/2018 14:43

op i got slaughtered on here for pointing out that grapes are a choking hazard so be prepared. many people came up with ridiculous PFB remarks even after the risks were pointed out

Battleax · 10/07/2018 14:44

van, the grapes in the picture ARE cut in half Grin

squeelof1 · 10/07/2018 14:45

If the potatoes were cut in sticks and fried no one would bat an eyelid.

I'm guessing the new potatoes are their attempt at giving them a healthier replacement than the usual pizza+chips combo that's served at schools so good on them although, sliced and with a bit dip would be nice with it.

And as for the bread, people usually have garlic bread with pizza, that's not considered strange.. just that one is plain.

But for a kids balanced meal i agree they don't need the extra bread, as the base of the pizza is bread.

MotherforkingShirtballs · 10/07/2018 14:46

If that's a lunch taster session then it's probably not an actual lunch.

The one I went to with DS at his new school had a buffet style selection of the different meals they do. It's a set meal every day on a four week rolling menu with salad bar and fruit but for the buffet they had pizza slices (Monday, week 1), chicken cobbler (Wednesday, week 2), salmon fish fingers (Friday, week three), and cheese and tomato pasta spirals (Thursday, week four). They also had samples of side dishes such as garlic bread, potatoes, mixed veg, and buttered greens and a selection of things usually offered on the salad and fruit bar.

LastOneDancing · 10/07/2018 14:46

I've got to go to my DS1's familiarisation day and have dinner tomorrow.

I can't wait to tuck into my random selection of carbs. Jacket potato with waffles? Cheese toastie with mash?

gorgeoushazydaysofsummer · 10/07/2018 14:48

They are cut lengthways!!!

At least the kdis are being offered nice fresh pots of fruit...

But pizza, baguette and potatoes? Woo - carb city.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/07/2018 14:50

Trebble carb and cucumber. Yum 🤢

Dd has a jam sandwich, crisps and an ice cream for tea yesterday. That’s all she’d eat at her friends house. But at school it should be more nutritious.

Grapes are halved lengthways. You can see the half grape on its own to the rhs of the pot.

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 10/07/2018 14:50

Everything is a potential hazard. But photos on websites are probably pretty low on the list.

haribosmarties · 10/07/2018 15:00

more worried about the bread, potatoes and pizza... whats going on there?
