Urgh I’m so annoyed! Going Perranporth a week today. Weather looks rubbish!! The following week it goes nice again! Think I’m going to cry if it rains every day!

"ON holiday". Wish there was an edit button.

Blobby10 · 10/07/2018 09:14

In my experience the weather in the South West, particularly West Cornwall, can change in a millisecond! They seem to have their own little microclimate and if its raining on the North coast, then head to the South where its often sunny and vice versa.

Thymelord · 10/07/2018 09:17

I feel your pain OP. We are due to go to North Wales in just under two weeks and the forecast has changed to potentially wet and windy. Agree with a PP though, you can't really trust the forecast much more than 2-3 days ahead, it changes all the time!

JustWantCake · 10/07/2018 10:00

We are off to Devon on Friday and have the same weather forecast but from my past experiences (we go nearly every year) is that the weather is so changeable and in reality it often ends up being a lot nicer than the weather forecasts predict

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/07/2018 10:23

Iv packed for a summer holiday! You can't do that! That's asking for trouble! A single carton of sunscreen, no matter how well hidden, will ensure rain every day. Have you not yet learnt from experience that the weather you are best prepared for is the weather you don't get? You can't not take the sun screen, but you need to make sure that its effect is outweighed by the number of umbrellas, raincoats and wellies that you take.

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 10/07/2018 11:05

Iv packed my umbrella! I have wellies for the older two but none for toddler 🤦🏻‍♀️ Do I pack coats? Urghhhh husband is already moaning that he thinks the car will be packed 🤦🏻‍♀️

waves to @FuzzyCustard** although I'm working in Devon today. The shame of crossing the bridge to the Wrong Side.

DroningOn · 10/07/2018 11:26

Heligan Gardens is a great day out and there's enough tree coverage to probably keep the worst of the rain out.

We're just finishing up 2 weeks in Perranporth this Saturday and it's been glorious, a few days of cloud cover have come to nothing, despite the forecast being for heavy showers which seem to have hit other parts of Cornwall. hopefully it'll pass you by without much rain.

And make sure you go to Porthcurno Beach..... Amazing!

Ansumpasty · 10/07/2018 11:29

Little tip. Very often, if it’s dull on the north coast of Cornwall, it’s sunny on the South, and vice versa. What’s the weather like in St Ives?
Good thing about Cornwall is that you can often chase the sun in you car :)
Failing that, there are lots of touristy things to do on rainy days (and pasties to eat ;) )

MikeUniformMike · 10/07/2018 13:08

Yes, you take coats. Cagoule types that fold into a pocket would be ideal.

Ethylred · 10/07/2018 13:20

The Met Office forecasts say rain even if it's only rain for a part of the day.

SilverHairedCat · 10/07/2018 19:38

@FuzzyCustard ALWAYS jam first!

FuzzyCustard · 10/07/2018 19:54

Well, thank goodness for that SilverHairedCat

When we've been to Devon (and we live quite near the border) and return to Cornwall we always have a little countdown - 5...4...3...2...1..."HELLO CORNWALL"

Today's weather..cloudy but warm this mourning, bright sunshine all afternoon. Still sunny now.

FuzzyCustard · 10/07/2018 20:16

Mourning??? Morning, of course.

tiredvommachine · 10/07/2018 20:27

We went to Clovelly today, that walk down (and more memorably, the bloody walk back up) nearly did for me! Would have hated trying to do that in yesterday's heat. Envy

CornishYarg · 10/07/2018 22:32

Definitely take cagoule-type coats! I've never fully recovered from a freezing walk near to Perranporth when the wind was so cold it made my ears ache...and this was in August a few years ago! UK holiday clothing is all about layers...

IsaidMrDarcynotArsey · 10/07/2018 22:40

We find the most accurate for this area is actually BBC weather. Himself ( who is an outdoors sort ) says 5 days out is pretty close. There are loads of things to do in the rain if you google rainy days out in Cornwall. I do notice that the Cornwall Heritage Aviation Centre is not in many lists but check it out on tripadvisor. There’s an
‘app for Cornwall’ that is similar to the little voucher pamphlets used to be ( one and all ) some entry vouchers usually not usable with other offers but worth a scan through in case it helps. The secret to a happy weather experience is light layering with a waterproof top, and dry socks for the way home.

mrcharlie · 10/07/2018 23:44

You have my sympathy OP
We went to Austria a few years ago and it rained constantly without let up. The most miserable 10 days of my life ever. Arrived back in the UK, back to work and more bloody rain. It was ghastly

sandrapanda · 11/07/2018 02:56

I'm

IntercontinentalButtCrack · 11/07/2018 10:53

Don't even think about coming to Cornwall without a cagoule.

If it's rainin in Perranporth it will likely be dry and sunny elsewhere, inland, opposite coast or further up or down the North coast.

For rainy day, definitely not Eden as it gets packed, Heligan also not much fun in the rain.

Porthcurno telegraph museum is a treasure, also Penlee gallery in Penzance, and the RCM in Truro. Poldark mine you're underground, so also a goodun.

Cath2907 · 11/07/2018 10:56

We were away about a month ago - forecast was dreadful. We had lovely sunny days and the only rain was in the evening which was nice to cool things off. Never trust a forecast this far ahead!

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 11/07/2018 16:24

the forecast is changing every hour so I’m not believing it atm 😂 it said 95% precipitation on Thursday now its 25%!

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 11/07/2018 18:08

If you take cagoules and carry them with you everywhere, it will probably not rain a single drop. Forget them and it will tip it down.

tiredvommachine · 12/07/2018 15:10

Glorious here!
