Urgh I’m so annoyed! Going Perranporth a week today. Weather looks rubbish!! The following week it goes nice again! Think I’m going to cry if it rains every day!

When we went on holiday, I obsessively checked weather because most of our holiday plans involved full days out and trips to the beach and to my horror, all of the weather apps and pages predicted thunderstorms for the day we arrived on holiday (not great in a caravan when you're afraid of thunder) and rain every single day apart from the day we left.

In reality, we had nothing except belting hot sunshine from early morning to really late at night and the only rain we finally got was on the motorway in Chester as we drove home.

Ignore it and don't trust anything other than you can see out of your window Wink

PixieCutRegret · 09/07/2018 18:55

It may be wrong, when we went in June it was forecast to be awful all week, I was gutted as we saved for 3 years (very skint!). It rained for 1 hour and lovely sunshine the rest of the time 😀 Just pack layers and have lots of rainy day activities planned just in case.

gnomeisland · 09/07/2018 18:56

What forecast are you looking at Mummysharkdoodoodoo and CoraPirbright? Been reading the Express? Seriously, unclench.

SilverHairedCat is spot on. No reliable forecast further than 5 days if you are really lucky. Try www.xcweather.co.uk/forecast/perranporth for a fairly reliable forecast.

It's like a tinderbox here. One of the hedges on the farm caught fire last week - probably some twat throwing a cig butt out of a car window - cue huge length of hedge a roaring inferno - luckily local fire brigade were here in minutes. Frightening how fast it spread though.

Carriecakes80 · 09/07/2018 18:56

Give me the rain....please?

Saying that, me and my lot had one of the best holidays in Perranporth and it was rainy...this was a good few years ago. We basically went swimming every day and exploring.

BikeRunSki · 09/07/2018 18:58

I work with weather forecasts. Current practice is to forecast “worst case” rather than “most likely scenario”. Until 48-6 hours before hand, forecasts are not that brilliant anyway. Don’t fret! We went to Nice at half term. Forecast was for rain everyday. It rained once for 10 mins and once in the night.

ShowOfHands · 09/07/2018 19:00

I went to Devon/Cornwall for a fortnight last August. It rained every single day and didnt get above 17 degrees at best. It was an average of 13 degrees. We had a GREAT time.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 09/07/2018 19:00

It may only rain for a bit of the day too

MereDintofPandiculation · 09/07/2018 19:03

Used to love childhood holidays in N Devon. If the sun shone, it was rock pools, surfing on old fashioned plywood body boards, and Hockings ice cream, if it rained we visited a stately home. Don't know how my parents felt about rain but it never worried me, we always had fun. It wsn't till my 40s that I realised you could actually see the sea from the N Devon coast road!

FuzzyCustard · 09/07/2018 19:05

BBC SW weather forecast for next week has said "maybe a few showers". So not a monsoon then!

heroineinahalfshell · 09/07/2018 19:06

If it makes you feel better, I live in the NW where it rains all the time (but hasn't in almost a month now, unheard of!) Today's forecast was for 50% chance of rain in the afternoon. We've got black, pregnant clouds above and the humidity is through the roof, but so far, not a spot of rain and the sun is shining through the clouds.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/07/2018 19:09

It’s unlikely to be solid rain. More like the odd shower. Rain was forecast where I live today. Bastards got that one wrong.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/07/2018 19:12

Weathers shifting really fast atm. Can’t trust forecasts that far ahead

MiddlingMum · 09/07/2018 19:24

We have friends in Cornwall who say it never rains on both coasts at once. Not sure if that's true or not. But if it's raining at Perranporth, drive down to the south coast for the day.

I love Cornwall in any weather, don't care if it rains or not. The only weather I wouldn't want would be constant hot sun.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 09/07/2018 19:33

The BBC app for Perranporth next week shows rain everyday on the summaries, but when you look day by day the % shows mostly under 35%, only Thursday night looking more probable for rain.
Don’t panic, it’s not looking likely that it will rain, only possible. Have a lovely holiday!

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 10/07/2018 07:09

Thank you all. Just worried :( Iv packed for a summer holiday!

CornishYarg · 10/07/2018 07:20

MiddlingMum That's always been our motto - if it's raining on one coast, head for the other! Obviously it's not infallible but Cornwall seems to have a lot of microclimates where it can be pouring in one place and lovely 20 miles away. And the long range forecast will almost certainly change.

However, OP, you really do need to pack for various weather while hoping for the best. Just packing for sun for Cornwall really is tempting fate!

Snowysky20009 · 10/07/2018 07:24

I've just been on holiday abroad. Apps told us rain 40-85% chance each and every day. Was gutted. However, it rained once for 2 hours in the night that's it. It was sweltering the rest of the time. So don't panic.

user1467976192 · 10/07/2018 07:33

Ditto we fly to Gdansk today.... heavy storms forecasted

DunesOfSand · 10/07/2018 07:43

You've packed already? Sounds like throwing in a rain coat, some long trousers and a jumper might be prudent.
That said, I pack the day before we leave. None of us have enough clothes to pack to far in advance!

Lovemusic33 · 10/07/2018 07:46

I wouldn’t worry, Cornwall often gets missed when it rains. We went a couple years ago when rain was forecast, I think it only rained once and the rest of the time it was hot and sunny.

Lovemusic33 · 10/07/2018 07:47

And it’s almost impossible to tell what the weather will do more than 3 days ahead.

RiverTam · 10/07/2018 07:49

Well, that’s Cornwall for you. Why does it never rain in Poldark? Cos the reality is it rains all the fucking time in Cornwall!

If you’ve got young DC I wouldn’t worry about it, Cornwall is still great whatever the weather. Just make sure you’ve got decent waterproofs and you’ll be fine.

tiredvommachine · 10/07/2018 07:50

Am currently on holiday in Bude and it's glorious! Have a great time Grin

CoraPirbright · 10/07/2018 08:39

Errrrr no Gnomeisland you couldnt pay me to read the Express Confused. It’s the BBC weather website.

FuzzyCustard · 10/07/2018 09:08

I love reading posts from people who are holiday where I live...it makes me feel very lucky.
