Just that really. A chronic cough causes huge strain on the pelvic floor area and can cause or worsen prolapses, incontinence, etc. If discovered early enough, a lot can be done to prevent e.g. a prolapse from worsening (Kegels, pessary, correct position on the toilet, nutritional changes etc). Healthy women have a fairly decent chance of a prolapse repair being successful, but obviously the chances for someone with a chronic cough are much worse.
So AIBU to suggest that any woman diagnosed with a chronic cough should automatically be offered a pelvic floor checkup e.g. by a specialist nurse?
