To ask about fake tan and swimming pools / the sea?

I'm going on holiday this weekend for two weeks. We're going to Eurocamp in the south of France, and will be in a tent for the whole time

I'm exceptionally pale (think blue!) and also pretty fat. That combination means that I look bloody awful in summer stuff, shorts etc. But, with a bit of a tan I look (so feel, that being the most important thing) much more confident.

I usually put the gradual tan stuff in my legs which is fine day to day. But it's a faff yo put on, especially when I'll be doing it in communal bathrooms. So, I am considering some type of spray tan, applied by a professional. But, if I'm in the swimming pool or sea every day, would it just come straight off?

I don't get any darker, btw, when I'm away. I have to call cover myself in factor 50 or I frazzle.

So, would a professionally done tan be a waste of money??

I'm much the same colour as you! This summer's wow moment was discovering the new St Tropez gradual tan mousse, you put it on, wait 1(yes1!) minute, then shower. After 1use, nothing to see, but it builds to a believable glow over the next 2, and I now just do it every day. Would be easy to do that in communal shower block I think. Have a great time!

I think chlorine can make fake tan go streaky.

The chlorine will take your fake tan off straight away

A nice fake tan will look lovely at first but after a few days of pool, sea and sun cream it'll be so patchy you'll end up trying to furiously rub the rest off (speaking from my own experience).

As someone who nearly always has fake tan on I can confirm that it will come off and go patchy if swimming in the sea and swimming pools. You will need to either keep putting it on every night and have vigorous exfoliation with every shower or just not bother.
If I'm away at the beach I tend to stop bothering with it as patchy tan looks worse than being pale.

Thanks everyone, you've pretty much confirmed what I thought :(
Ivory I use the St Tropez gradual tan lotion atm but maybe will give the mouse a try too. To me, streaky fake tan is better then blue legs, but I'm not paying loads for the privilege, I'll do it myself!
