Aibu to want a white sofa - new baby soon?

We are looking at new sofas. I am hoping for recliners (wall hugging), if even just the armchairs.

I have always wanted white/cream. I know someone who says her white sofa is stain resistant due to new fangled fabric technology.

A) can anyone recommend a good wall hugging recliner that’s not too ‘poofy’ as it’s a cramped space. (The wall hugging ones are the ones that can recline even flush against the wall.

B) has anyone had a white sofa in a house with children and it hasn’t ended in tears or paranoid living. We often eat on laps sometimes.

Blame it on the hormones pet!!
Coz you ain't being very logical in your desire!

We have a cream sofa with dogs and it’s very grubby. White? Why? I’d say you would regret it.

onalongsabbatical · 08/07/2018 20:24

Just reminded me of the time a friend's child let a whole biro leak on a white bedspread. Stain resistance would not have cut it. I wouldn't do it, OP. Sorry.

GoodFortuneAttendThee · 08/07/2018 20:24

Don't, for the sake of your sanity, buy anything that can't be properly washed (as opposed to just wiped)..especially white. It won't survive, trust me..don't trust the technology!

Starlight345 · 08/07/2018 20:24

Unless you are desperate for a sofa I would wait a couple of years , baby sick and wee don’t come out no matter what colour

Furx · 08/07/2018 20:25

Hahahaha

Brown. Pleather.

Seriously

SandunesAndRainclouds · 08/07/2018 20:25

I had a cream sofa and paid extra for the stain protecting stuff. It did fuck all.... grubby, sticky little fingers soon turned it into a disgusting shade of dirty grey.

I had it recovered in a dark aubergine colour.

bubbles108 · 08/07/2018 20:26

You'd be mad

Furx · 08/07/2018 20:27

Watching out for the sofa will take over your life.

You‘ll say ‚‘mind the .....‘

On a loop 24 times a day for the next 14 years.

My charcoal sofa has been damaged by stains from my toddler so I’d have no chance with a cream one and I don’t think I could cope with the stress

babybrainusedtobesmart · 08/07/2018 20:28

Get leather! I'm so grateful our sofa is wipe clean. It gets baby sick on daily

cadburyegg · 08/07/2018 20:28

Hahahahaha. Don’t do it. I wouldn’t worry so much with an immobile baby, it’s more when they turn into chocolate munching toddlers you’ll be anxious.

gamerchick · 08/07/2018 20:30

My dream is white carpets throughout but I know it would be really daft so it'll say a dream sadly.

Dont do it or the words said by a PP will be the most you say for its lifetime Grin

Furx · 08/07/2018 20:31

Chocolate munching, jam spreading, pen wielding, potty training toddlers.

oneofthose · 08/07/2018 20:31

Hahahha my 9 month old would throw up his spag bol on a white sofa without a second thought!

Fatted · 08/07/2018 20:31

Our old sofa used to be cream before I had two kids. The fabric got ruined but it still had some life in it, so we covered it with throws for a year before getting some lovely black leather ones.

Unless you want to live with plastic covers over it permanently, don't even bother!

MakeLemonade · 08/07/2018 20:32

I bought a really light sofa when I was pregnant - Mum, DH etc all said I was nuts but I was adamant.

They were right. Even with stain prevention treatment it lasted about 2.5 years before we binned it. So no, I wouldn’t recommend.

As PP said, it’s not the baby, it’s the toddler!

daughterofanarchy · 08/07/2018 20:32

“Hahahaha

Brown. Pleather.

Seriously”

I fully agree with this!!!

MakeLemonade · 08/07/2018 20:34

I couldn’t deal with pleather or leather. Just get a darker colour that will be a bit more forgiving with stains.

Einsteins3LionsHCB · 08/07/2018 20:34

I'm wearing a mixture of mottled brown, yellow possibly grrrrreeeeen? Well it's near enough green.

I began the day wearing white, yes white. However the 2yr old had other ideas........

You are out of your fucking mind to choose white. HTH.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/07/2018 20:34

YABVVVVVVVVVU! White sofas and DC do not mix!

Hooli · 08/07/2018 20:34

Ours is light grey. We have a dog and a child. I hate my grubby light grey sofa with a passion but won't get a new one until the child is at least five.

Don't do it.

ApplesTheHare · 08/07/2018 20:35

Don't bother. We had a light sage green one when DD arrived and it lasted 18 months even with stain resistant fabric and professional deep cleaning. Kids are lovely but disgusting. Drop your standards and parenting becomes a lot easier.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 08/07/2018 20:35

Ahahahahahahaha. That's going to look quality after the baby pukes and poos on it a few times, and even better when the toddler is eating (and smearing, and shitting) solids. Ps baby poo nevaaaaaaah comes out of white.

Get pleather. Dark.

ToadsforJustice · 08/07/2018 20:36

Buy a sofa that is the colour of poo and vomit. Terracotta would do. Sorted.
