I've been on a couple of threads lately where it looked as if a load of posters suddenly gathered and started circling one unfortunate posters like a pack of dogs. It was as if they all descended in response to a ,command and I got the distinct impression that some kind of rallying cry had gone out "X needs us".

AIBU or does this go on amongst some posters?

One unfortunate 'poster' not 'posters'.

I thought you meant in real life. Like a secret handshake or something.

A Batsignal?

arranfan · 07/07/2018 10:07

I thought this would be:

Pombears, anyone?
Lemon drizzle or chocolate crispy nest?
There's a whiff of glue in the air.
Punching a cake.
That bunting is lacking something.

Knotting a scarf a distinctive way (I'd be rubbish).

Arjunsummer · 07/07/2018 10:08

Did you mean to be so rude?

ClaudiaWankleman · 07/07/2018 10:10

@arranfan About a year ago I walked past a squashed lemon drizzle in Tesco and immediately thought of disgruntled PTA members.

Nope, some people are just arseholes and everyone else recognises this and replies.

Snapped and farted, cancel he cheque.

I did once follow a thread on here and something bad had happened to the op’s car. When she took it to the mechanic (apparently) they asked if she was a MNetter and fixed it for free! Don’t know it is true obviously.

Re the actual op... no I haven’t seen this before and I don’t know of it, so I’m definitely not in on it. Sometimes people will all pick up on something which I haven’t noticed and will give a poster a hard time when it was something fairly innocent to me. I always assume I’ve just missed the point or something.

I think, with all the devices people have nowadays you probably get one or two posters posting under several different names, so what looks like a gang attack is actually just a couple of people sock puppet ting.

There was a time you could report any suspicions, but nowadays it's probably impossible to prove.

There are also groups of posters who are attracted to any thread that deals with their favourite hobby horse, so you will have the same bunch angrily swarming all over the thread, giving the OP a hard time.
That's always gone on, I think.
