Long list of frozen veg that have potentially been exposed to the lysteria outbreak. I'm going through my freezer, and chucking the lot....

If you bought some from the effected supermarket why wouldn't you return it for the refund?

LoudestRoar · 06/07/2018 15:00

To be honest, I can't be bothered with the hassle of returning it. I just want rid of it.

Awesome. Going to have to go home and check my Aldi frozen sweet corn, what with being 30 weeks pregnant and all.

HeresMe · 06/07/2018 15:04

Where is the AIBU here either throw it,or take it back. If you can't be bothered then just throw it, touching the bags isn't going to Hurt you and having it in your freezer is minimal risk.

foobio · 06/07/2018 15:04

It is a specific batch of sweetcorn which is causing the recall.

I would be cautious of any other brands of frozen sweetcorn (or sweetcorn mixes) with the same use by date. But throwing away other veg / other dates would be wasteful.

gorgeoushazydaysofsummer · 06/07/2018 15:04

9 people have died.

YANBU.

Phosphorus · 06/07/2018 15:07

Why don't you just cook it before eating it?

It'll be fine then.

Dadsbigsausages · 06/07/2018 15:07

Yanbu

I've also chucked the lot no matter where it came from. Who knows if another supermarket may later discover they also were affected? I do like the veg mix steambags and they all have sweetcorn.

Perhaps wasteful yes but also a valid safety measure I think.

PestymcPestFace · 06/07/2018 15:07

Listeria is killed by cooking.

If you can't be bothered to return stuff, chuck anything that is on the list.

Other frozen stuff - just cook it properly (at least 70 C for 4 mins).

Seems a tad hysterical to bin all frozen veg.

Moonkissedlegs · 06/07/2018 15:08

Surely cooking the veg kills the listeria? I guess not if people have died but I would have thought boiling/steaming it would kill the bacteria?

So it's due to the sweetcorn in these veg packs?

cakedup · 06/07/2018 15:10

My frozen veg is not on the list of affected and I definitely can't afford to throw them out on a whim,.

hungryhippie · 06/07/2018 15:11

YANBU
My 3 year old is immunosuppressed so not a chance im taking a risk
I'm binning it all.

foxessocks · 06/07/2018 15:12

Sometimes frozen sweetcorn I just defrost and put in tuna etc without cooking so that could be the issue. I've got some Asda frozen sweetcorn at home it's not on the list but I think I'll make sure I cook it at least...

jellycat · 06/07/2018 15:16

We get through a bag of sweetcorn most weeks, having it delivered by Ocado. I’ve had an e-mail for every bag we’ve had over the past year, saying we’ll get refunded. Just checked in the freezer and have 2 bags in there. We haven’t been ill (thankfully). Ocado substituted it with Birdseye in the last delivery - now I know why!

ilovesooty · 06/07/2018 15:18

I'm sure a lot of people can't afford to chuck food away and at least would be sufficiently motivated to seek a refund.

NotARegularPenguin · 06/07/2018 15:21

Sweet corn is cheap enough. I would bin it.

ScarlettSahara · 06/07/2018 15:21

Advice from a health professional on radio 4 this morning was that it is safe to eat the frozen veg if cooked as per instructions but avoid microwaving as this might not cook through to centre.
Do not put into salads without cooking.

foxessocks · 06/07/2018 15:22

Though talking to other people I think I've probably been wrong to do that all this time Shock woops. Thankfully we've all been ok but I'll certainly be cooking first from now on.

HelenaDove · 06/07/2018 15:23

i have some frozen veg. Sainsburys Broccoli and Cauliflower florets. they arent on the list and dont have any sweetcorn in but im not sure i want the risk of them being added to the list later on.

How the fuck has this happened to this extent.

PestymcPestFace · 06/07/2018 15:26

Greenyard Frozen (UK) Ltd announce a voluntary product recall of products containing frozen Sweetcorn from their Hungarian Factory in Beja, due to the potential contamination with Listeria.

MyOtherHusbandIsTomHardy · 06/07/2018 15:27

I eat a lot of frozen fruit - am a bit worried that this might be affected too.

ToadOfSadness · 06/07/2018 15:27

I thought this was going to be about the Aldi mixed veg with the half slugs in them.

Will go and check the freezer just in case.

safariboot · 06/07/2018 15:28

Great. I just finished eating a bolognese including frozen peas.

They were Birdseye though, as are our ready-to-microwave vegetables. Still concerning though.

Kursk · 06/07/2018 15:29

Just cook it properly and it’s not an issue
