To throw out all my frozen veg?

Long list of frozen veg that have potentially been exposed to the lysteria outbreak. I'm going through my freezer, and chucking the lot....

I just looked and I have nothing on the list, I will just cook what I have well, it seems to be just anything with sweetcorn in. If I did have any I would just put it in a carrier bag and take it back to the shop for a refund on my next shopping trip, so not that much bother as its frozen anyway and could just stay in the freezer til then

Why ever would you think fruit would be affected?
The issue lies with sweetcorn from a specific source, and mixed veg containing that sweetcorn - it's nothing to do with fruit.

Bugger - I bought the sainsbury steam bag ones (where you get 4 frozen packs of mixed veg) as they are handy when you are making a few variations for dinner.

I might just throw them then. What a waste of food.

It's just sweet corn, but throw your fruit away, even though there is no connection, throw the fish fingers away aswell just in case.

Really people do get into a tizzy.

I would probably throw out the whole freezer contents in case its spread around the freezer.

Why is everyone chucking them out, just return them on your next shopping trip

It is though a reminder of something I think has been the case for a while now. The main cause of food poisoning isn't meat or chicken any more, people have mostly got the message that it needs to be cooked properly. It's salad and fruit that never get cooked, so any germs that aren't washed away stay alive to sicken you.

ive been buying ready to eat carrot batons but i always wash stuff. i never take their word for it that its been washed.

Just cook it properly Confused I really wish they would explain before causing a panic. Don't eat it raw, don't stick it in sodden smoothies and cook the damned stuff. Bosh!

Surely frozen veg is going to get cooked?

I understand worrying about listeria in pate and salad, but cooked food seems OTT.

Its probably because people only lightly steam or microwave it or add it raw to salads, not like the old days when it was well boiled in a saucepan for about 20 minutes. Those steamer bags leave it quite firm still so still probably a bit raw. It just needs a good boil up.

Chuck out or take back for a refund if on the recall list. Everything else "vegetable", I don't know, maybe bloody cook it.

Or if a panicker:

Best to take the freezer outside and set fire to it, then stop eating food at all because it might be germ riddled.

Will be safe then Hmm

Thanks for that ...I have some aldi sweetcorn I've just taken out of the freezer.

The other week DS had terrible food poisoning (which he'd never had before) after eating a lot of corn on the cob so now I'm counting myself lucky it was only food poisoning!

Look at the List
If you have something on there then take it back (or if you can't be bothered chuck).
But make sure you cook stuff properly and you won't be at danger. I knew there was a reason I prefer tinned sweetcorn in salads.

But you are more at risk from your lettuce or cucumbers etc. And definitely when you go out to eat - especially salad bars.

Chucking other veg "just incase" is as near criminal as can be. There are people going hungry in this country - but you chuck perfectly good food. The fact that we get weekly updates of food which has issues - show that the rest is perfectly safe.

Heard a bacteriologist talking about this on the radio.

There is a potential risk if you simply defrost the sweetcorn and eat it cold.

There is no risk if you cook it properly in boiling water for the recommended time.

Throwing away perfectly good food is ridiculous.
