Why do people do it? I just don't get it. AIBU?

Sensitive eyes?

GrumpyInsomniac · 06/07/2018 12:48

Migraine in my case, the lighting in the tube is horrible and can trigger it for me. Also, in the past, prescription lenses when you've forgotten to bring your normal glasses with you and still need to be able to check the number of stops ahead before you get off.

LostInShoebiz · 06/07/2018 12:48

Dust

catcatcatcat · 06/07/2018 12:48

Prescription sunglasses. Can't read signs etc if not

Rocinante1 · 06/07/2018 12:49

I had to a couple of time since my sight is very bad with my glasses, and I only had my prescription sunglasses on (hadn't planned to go on a subway). So my choice was no vision or dimmed vision.

Takfujimoto · 06/07/2018 12:49

I have really sensitive eyes, they water when I open the curtains from March to September.

Any kind of wind, breeze, flash of a camera, dust, it all makes my eyes irritable and watery.

I have spare Sunglasses in my bag just in case because I don't want to walk around looking like I've been crying all day.

I honestly don't know why someone wearing sunglasses on the tube could bother anyone Confused

HarrietKettleWasHere · 06/07/2018 12:50

Hangover.

Kintan · 06/07/2018 12:50

Sometimes I’m half way though a tube journey before I realise I’ve not talked them off. Could be a variety of reasons though. Does it really bother you?

Notonthestairs · 06/07/2018 12:50

Prescription sunglasses. I don't always want open up my bag and root around for my specs for a short journey.

Neptunesgiraffe · 06/07/2018 12:50

Yeah I've done it plenty of times - I wear prescription sunglasses. Sometimes I forget. Sometimes it's too much of a faff to change to my normal glasses. Sometimes I can't be arsed to. :)

Terri84 · 06/07/2018 12:51

Perhaps people forget they're wearing them, so don't take them off.
Perhaps they've got nowhere to put them, so its easier just to keep wearing them.

Springersrock · 06/07/2018 12:51

Forgotten to take them off?

I went to a festival a couple of weeks ago - I wore sunglasses all day, on my way home at 1am I realised I was still wearing them Blush.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 06/07/2018 12:51

Prescription sunglasses... And hayfever

Ethylred · 06/07/2018 12:51

It annoys idiots.

Honestlyhelpful · 06/07/2018 12:52

To avoid eye contact! That’s why I wear mine a lot!

Lottapianos · 06/07/2018 12:52

A friend of mine wore sunglasses all through dinner in a restaurant once. She had an eye infection. It was a little bit odd but I stopped noticing after a few minutes Smile

PalePinkSwan · 06/07/2018 12:52

Epilepsy - the flashing of lights as you whizz past them can trigger seizures

Migraines - again, triggered by flashing lights

Autism/aspergers - the fluorescent lighting, crowds and motion can all cause sensory overload which is very stressful and unpleasant

Sensitive eyes - sensitive to dust and pollen

Loads of reasons.

Strugglingtodomybest · 06/07/2018 12:52

Prescription sunglasses.

LighthouseSouth · 06/07/2018 12:52

if you have glasses that automatically tint, the bright light on the underground will turn them to sunglasses, my mum has these

also I have hayfever so wear them en route and forget to take them off, not sure why it matters to you, there's probably many reasons and possibilities and with constant bright sun at the moment, a lot of people just keep them on. So what.

ShatnersBassoon · 06/07/2018 12:52

Prescription sunglasses possibly, or just forgetting they're on.
I don't think they're doing it to make some kind of statement.

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 06/07/2018 12:53

In order for me:
Hangover Blush
Prescription sunglasses

Quimby · 06/07/2018 12:54

To look 😎

Amanduh · 06/07/2018 12:54

Prescription sunglasses. Dust, dirt, wind. Bright outside and a faff if they’re just hopping on/off. Fluorescent lighting. Just want to.
Why would you care

Amanduh · 06/07/2018 12:55

Oh and hayfever, and yes - hangover 😂

AlbertaSimmons · 06/07/2018 12:57

As everyone else says - prescription lenses. Yes, you could swap them for your normal specs, but why bother. Does it matter?
