Why do people do it? I just don't get it. AIBU?

OP posts:

Hangover, hayfever, eye infection , migraine.........

Plimmy · 06/07/2018 15:35

The medical reasons being given on this thread are pretty rare.

OP, if you see a person on the tube wearing sunglasses the likelihood is that they’re just a poser. No guarantee of course, but likely.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/07/2018 15:37

Maybe they are prescription sunglasses and the wearer has just got fed up switching between glasses as they go in and out of the sun a zillion times that day (says she with experience).

ItchMyEyeball · 06/07/2018 15:44

For the people on this thread with very sensitive eyes, DH gets his glasses from a company called noir medical. They are in the US but ship everywhere and their prices are good, they have lots of different styles, coloured lenses and %'s. Not to advertise but just in case its useful to anyone. We searched all over for some foe DH and he's now been using them for years.

dudsville · 06/07/2018 15:51

Wearing sunglasses out from under the sun, sipping takeaway coffees, using words/phrases that rub people the wrong way, dressing against the rules... all of these things are done for the sole purpose of pissing off the uptight. If you're bothered then this is in fact you. It's ok to have opinions, preferences, dislikes. It's not ok to criticise others for not conforming to your choices.

Yeah, hardly anyone suffers from migraines or hayfever Hmm

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 06/07/2018 15:55

Hangover
Eye infection
Hayfever
Black eye
Just to look cool
Why do you care?

halfwitpicker · 06/07/2018 15:56

I wear them on my head. They make me look thinner.

TheOrigFV45 · 06/07/2018 16:03

Wow Plimmy, I hope I never need to ask you for help.

3DSpex · 06/07/2018 16:04

I often do. I find the light on the tube horrible, makes me feel headachy and nauseous, eespecially afar a long day at work.

mydogishot · 06/07/2018 16:09

I don't like people.
Gives me a barrier from them when they have to be in proximity

LexieLulu · 06/07/2018 16:11

I wear prescription sunnies, sometimes it's a bloody pain in the arse to keep swapping them over

Plimmy · 06/07/2018 16:21

Wow Plimmy, I hope I never need to have to ask you for help

Why? I’d give anyone in need all the help I possibly could.

But that’s got nothing to do with people wearing sunglasses on the tube for no reason other than affectation.

TheOrigFV45 · 06/07/2018 16:29

But your default is to think if someone is wearing sunglasses on the underground, is that they are posers.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/07/2018 16:32

I don't really care. There are worse things to be wearing in public.

Herewegoagain01 · 06/07/2018 16:36

It doesn’t bother me and less hassle than swapping glasses all the time. I also watch telly with my sunglasses on if I can’t be bothered to change them Grin

Plimmy · 06/07/2018 16:43

But your default is to think if someone is wearing sunglasses on the underground, is that they are posers.

Er, yes. So what?

Should I be watchful in case that perfectly well looking person in Ray-Bans has a funny turn?

ByeMF · 06/07/2018 16:43

Prescription sunglasses. Had to wear mine all day yesterday as I left my normal glasses at home. Can't see fuck all without them.
Better question is what in god's name goes through someone's head when they eat crisps on the tube? Drives me potty!

NoelHeadbands · 06/07/2018 16:47

Iritis, uveitis and Bells Palsy, in my case. And yes I did feel that people were probably judging me as a knob on each occasion but it couldn't be helped, I needed to get around

Oh and I did once spend most of one morning wearing sunglasses at my desk purely because I mistakenly thought I was wearing my normal specs - didn't notice it was a bit darker than usual Blush that WAS me being a knobhead

LucilleBluth · 06/07/2018 16:50

Prescription. Do it all the time.

CoralFish · 06/07/2018 16:52

Eye infection, hangover, too lazy to get my non-sun glasses out of my handbag when I'll just have to swap them back again when I get there...

Wowzel · 06/07/2018 16:54

Being a goth...

They go with my clothes ;)

milafawny · 06/07/2018 16:56

I cba to carry my normal glasses around atm. I take my phone keys and card and thats it. Too hot to carry a proper bag, i have a small cross body one, and i cant see without glasses so i wear my sunglasses everywhere

blackteasplease · 06/07/2018 16:57

Not on the tube but on trains I sometimes wear them to nap!

AveEldon · 06/07/2018 17:01

I keep mine on when it's dusty and windy
