I cringe when I see someone wear one. Do you?

BadMoodBetty · 05/07/2018 23:41

Depends in the person wearing it. If they're a bit if a knob generally, I'd probably think "knobhead wearing a knobhead t-shirt".

I have a bed t-shirt that says "I'm not a regular mom, I'm a cool mom" though.

I would not spend more than £15/20 on any t-shirt as it would end up with toothpaste, mashed potato, toddler gunge, on it and be ruined after five minutes and those 'mother' ones are expensive as shit.

Thehop · 05/07/2018 23:43

I’m really scared to admit I want one.

But .....I’m 40, and fat so already stand out at baby groups enough 😂🙈

FallArmyWorm · 05/07/2018 23:44

Do you mean the Selfish Mother brand ones that raise money for charity? yeah, that's an example of what I'm thinking of

OP posts:
FallArmyWorm · 05/07/2018 23:46

@Thehop It's ok - i think I want one for a few seconds too (because some are quite cool)...and then I remember how I instinctively react when I see a woman wearing one when I"m out and about

OP posts:
Itscurtainsforyou · 05/07/2018 23:48

I have two Grin

I don't mind them, and I feel like I'm doing my bit for charity. I don't feel like I've lost my identity since having children, so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me?

Missbrick1 · 05/07/2018 23:53

I just think it’s weird to want mother or mama or papa branded across your chest. Are they the same section of society that wears just married bikinis etc

NerrSnerr · 05/07/2018 23:55

I like the Selfish Mother ones but can't afford one right now.

Each to their own, not everyone can do the school run in Breton tops and the mumsnet school run dress. If someone is happy in what they wear and it's not offensive to anyone I don't see the problem.

Missbrick1 · 06/07/2018 00:02

What’s a mumsnet school run dress?

dinosaurkisses · 06/07/2018 00:02

I have two of the Selfish Mother ones- I like the colour combinations and graphics, and the jumpers themselves are decent quality.

It’s all personal taste- I personally think the people who fawn over Toast or Hush over on Style and Beauty need their head felt, but I don’t start threads about it!

NerrSnerr · 06/07/2018 00:09

@Missbrick1 periodically there are threads on style and beauty about the perfect school run dress, apparently something quick and easy you can just throw on to pick the children up. I have never understood why they can't just wear what they already had on but it's a 'thing'.

Missbrick1 · 06/07/2018 00:11

Oh ok, didn’t know there was a category of clothes just for the school run 😉

FallArmyWorm · 06/07/2018 00:11

I totally agree the tops are not offensive and am not for one moment suggesting the should be banned or anything! Grin

I just don't like them in the same way that I don't like halloumi cheese, or parking fines, or poinsettias...

OP posts:
FallArmyWorm · 06/07/2018 00:14

@Missbrick1 maybe those mummies didn't have anything on when they stirred from their gentle slumber in bed to go and fetch the children?
I know that's where I'd be of an afternoon if I didn't have to work Grin

OP posts:
CocoDeMoll · 06/07/2018 00:14

Wow now!!! Poinsettias are Christmas in a pot! Grin

FallArmyWorm · 06/07/2018 00:15

Sorry, my previous post meant for @NerrSnerr !

OP posts:
Missbrick1 · 06/07/2018 00:18

On my days off I drop the kids off in whatever I grab, usually a sweater (without mummy on it) & jeans. 😁

How can you not like halloumi?!

caoraich · 06/07/2018 00:19

My friend got me a maternity t shirt that says "we're hoping it's a velociraptor" across the bump....
Is that the kind of thing you mean, or is it allowed!?

chickedychicked · 06/07/2018 00:20

you don't like halloumi?? I was with you up until that statement.Shock

egginacup · 06/07/2018 00:31

They’re not as bad as the ‘Dadmin’ tshirts that seemed to be advertised all over my Facebook around Father’s Day. They made me want to throw up in my mouth a little.

LaContessaDiPlump · 06/07/2018 00:43

I have a Selfish Mother tshirt and it got a hole in it after about 4 washes :( not what I was hoping for in a 30 quid t-shirt!!

CatRen27 · 06/07/2018 00:58

I like the idea that it goes to charity but there's just no way i could leave the house in one.. maybe as a comfy at home jumper/tee but I'm not spending that money for lounging around clothes..

And sorry to get all earnest/snowflakey but advertising motherhood is kinda crass and boasty.. with so many women with infertility issues, the bump/baby is enough, we don't literally need the t shirt..!

Missbrick1 · 06/07/2018 01:05

I just see it as insta fashion, eg on insta everyone has one/it & it signifies you’re in that “tribe”. i
In real life hardly anyone wears it, & the ones you see that do wear it have paired it with other insta trends.

twattymctwatterson · 06/07/2018 01:05

How the fuck can anyone not like Halloumi?

FallArmyWorm · 06/07/2018 09:20

On the halloumi....you might as well tip 5 tablespoons of salt straight in your mouth, no?

OP posts:
Shitonthebloodything · 06/07/2018 09:24

Advertising motherhood? Like when I walk down the street with my kids?
I wouldn't wear one but each to their own. Can't say I'm bothered by them.
