AIBU to fancy Frank Skinner?

If it wasn’t for DH, I’d be asking him out. He loves the Fall, like me, and was even brave enough to interview Mark E Smith, and he presenrs the Portrait/Landscape Artist of the year programme while being absolutely charming and amusing.
Oh Frank, with your twinkly eyes and hilarity, I could imagine “great things” between us!
My other quirky crushes are Saul from “Better Call Saul”, Superhans from “Peepshow” and Malcolm Tucker from “The Thick of it”.
Anyone else?

I'd totally do Saul Goodman, however.

Squeegle · 05/07/2018 21:09

I think he’s very funny. I like him on the radio and I was impressed when I went to see him on Room 101 very professional and funny. But I don’t think he’s at all attractive and I am perturbed to hear about his autobiography WHAT IS IN THERE?

Donthugmeimscared · 05/07/2018 21:28

Can't see the attraction to Frank Skinner but as someone previously said Saul Goodman I would.

Lethaldrizzle · 05/07/2018 21:30

I always remember his crude sexist humour about anal sex etc. Albeit he may have cleaned up as it were since going sober

friendlyflicka · 05/07/2018 21:41

RoboticSealpup I knew a really creepy man who was obsessed by him as well. The two have sort of fused in my mind. I think he is absolutely revolting.

MargotLovedTom1 · 05/07/2018 22:23

I love Saul, dodgy barnet and everything. Also love Lee Mack so glad to hear he's a good 'un.

Imstickingwiththisone · 05/07/2018 22:31

I actually want to read his autobiography now just to see how many references to anal sex there are.

I knew of him growing up but never watched his stand up or fantasy football, and am much better acquainted with him these days. He comes across as quick witted with a liberal slant so surprised to read what a dick he was / is.

twattymctwatterson · 06/07/2018 02:27

Oh god YABU. It's not even that he's really unattractive, he's also an utter arsehole of a man

screepy · 06/07/2018 02:36

He looks like an ugly Roland Rat.

Oh, and he's a misogynist too.

BertrandRussell · 06/07/2018 09:25

It’s difficult not to admire someone who is genuinely self educated to the extent that he is, and his political and religious beliefs seem sincerely and consistently held. And he is very witty on his radio show. But his stand up is vile. Truly vile.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/07/2018 09:27

As I recall his autobiography has a particularly unpleasant description of an encounter with a prostitute.

longwayoff · 06/07/2018 09:33

That is not only VVVVV unreasonable but probably deserving of treatment. Raise your standards.

BertrandRussell · 06/07/2018 09:34

Yes, he appears to be sexually sleazy in the extreme. But he is friends with Emily Dean, who I rate. If it wasn’t for his stand up, I might assume he had matured..........

Imstickingwiththisone · 06/07/2018 09:41

Is he self educated? He has a degree in English literature and references philosophers but I don't think that makes him a autodidact. Just that he's read some of their works. Am I missing something?

HollowTalk · 06/07/2018 10:24

He has an MA in Eng Lit from Warwick Uni - hardly self educated!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/07/2018 10:27

I think he came to education as a mature student after working in factories and the like. He was older than his persona implied during the fantasy football years.

HollowTalk · 06/07/2018 10:31

According to Wiki he went to Birmingham Poly and graduated in 1981. He was born in 1957 so he would have been about 24 when he graduated so he can only have worked in factories for three years. No doubt it sounded better to make it sound as though he'd done it for decades, though!

augustusglupe · 06/07/2018 10:34

Yes YABVU OP Grin
However I fancy Rhod Gilbert too Serendippitty and Lee Mack

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/07/2018 10:36

You are right Hollow. And only about 20% of people graduated in 1981 so a degree from Birmingham Poly is much better than it sounds.

BertrandRussell · 06/07/2018 10:42

Fair enough. I am always impressed by people from disadvantaged backgrounds who organize their own educations, rather than having it organized for them by family and school. See also Russell Kane.

I don’t think Frank Skinner ever pretends to be anything he isn’t, though. Which is perhaps why we know more about his sex life than we want to.

HollowTalk · 06/07/2018 10:50

And, of course, with David Baddiel being comparatively posh, I think Frank Skinner played up his working class side.

Tallace · 06/07/2018 10:56

He only worked in factories when he was a student during the summer holidays.

A major part of his tv persona is how so working class he is. 'We had an outside toilet' and all that but given his age that was fairly average for when he was growing up.

LittleLionMansMummy · 06/07/2018 11:01

I haven't seen his stand-up but did wonder if he may have improved since becoming sober (in terms of personality, not attractiveness)? Sort of like Chris Evans appears to have (cue all kinds of stories about what an arseholes he is). He seems to have a genuine chemistry with those he works closely with on R2.

LittleLionMansMummy · 06/07/2018 11:02

But would I shag FS? Not if you paid me.

BertrandRussell · 06/07/2018 11:04

“A major part of his tv persona is how so working class he is. 'We had an outside toilet' and all that but given his age that was fairly average for when he was growing up.”

Really? I think inside loos were quite common in the 1960s!
