You can't go posting pics of genitals all over Facebook!

So that is the gist of what my sonographer said to me during my scan! At my 12 wk scan I asked if at my 20 wk they could write the gender down for us as I'm unsure if I want to find out. They said no, that they don't do that at that hospital. I then asked if I could have a good scan pic so I could see if I could work it out for myself, just for fun, as obviously I'm not a sonographer and probably wouldn't be able to tell 100%. She said 'no, we couldn't do that, could you imagine if people put scan pictures with genitalia all over Facebook? And it came back that we had supplied the pictures?!' AIBU to think this response was insane?! Happy to be told I'm wrong.

Sounds a bit odd alright

Halfblindbunny · 05/07/2018 17:40

Sonographer sounds a bit odd but to be honest so do you. Either find out or don't, stop faffing about.

Grandmaswagsbag · 05/07/2018 17:43

I reckon she is just disapproving of the trend for putting scan pics on Facebook full stop. As most sensible people are. I mean when you think about it it is actually just a picture of a child’s genitals, it would be a bit distasteful for people to put it on Facebook.

Mammyloveswine · 05/07/2018 17:48

I had a private gender scan and have a close of ds2s boy bits 😂

That's an odd policy thing to say tho, maybe hook a private scan and ask them to write it down.

RomPom · 05/07/2018 18:10

Yes I think a private scan is the way to go. She just made it sound as if she'd get into trouble for distributing indecent images of children. I thought it was very dramatic, especially as I hadn't even mentioned Facebook as I have no intention of announcing pregnancy, let alone posting scan pics on there! She then gave me a scan pic that was completely indecipherable. I had to ask her what exactly I was looking at.

Bizarre

Tippexy · 05/07/2018 18:12

You can’t find out the gender from a scan.

ImAGoofyGoober · 05/07/2018 18:13

It does sound a bit uptight but at the end of the day their job is to make sure your baby is healthy and everything is growing correctly, not to dish out perfect scan photos.

Tjzmummabear · 05/07/2018 18:16

You can find out gender from the scan...not always right but usually. Or do you mean they have stopped telling parents in case of gender selection terminations?

Tjzmummabear · 05/07/2018 18:17

I used baby bond for babies 2 and 3. I just wanted to know. I knew 3rd was a girl but hey ho x

ImAGoofyGoober · 05/07/2018 18:19

I think tippexy might mean you can’t find out the gender but can find out the sex.

Wherismymind · 05/07/2018 18:22

I had a private gender scan I they did a close up of the 'beef burger bun' with its a girl written on it.

I didn't choose to get that picture printed off though. Bit weird showing that to the family.

VladmirsPoutine · 05/07/2018 18:23

You both sound difficult tbh.

PurpleFlower1983 · 05/07/2018 18:35

I think Tippexy means you can only find the sex from the scan not the gender as is the new trend for not labelling children as a gender.

PurpleFlower1983 · 05/07/2018 18:36

I don’t subscribe to all that btw!!

Just ignore the sonographer! And decide if you want to know one way or the other!
