To wonder what the hell this is and how it got here?

Posting here for traffic. Just had a very weird thing happen and neither DH nor I can fathom what has happened:

Just went up to our en suite bathroom and noticed a blue-black blob in the sink. It looked a bit like someone had half eaten a blackcurrant and spat it out so I thought it was just the kids. Or maybe even a bird poo of some sort. There is a sky light window above the sink so this was kind of conceivable. But then I thought about it and the kids haven’t been eating berries.

Then I looked over at the bath and there were two splodges of what looks like black ink in the bath. Nothing anywhere else. The ceiling above the bath is clean. The shower is at the other end of the bath and not leaking black stuff.

I called DH and he said it hadn’t been there when he brushed DD’s teeth a couple of hours ago - and no one has been in that room since then!

In the interest of science I stuck a cotton bud in it and it was quite liquid, didn’t really have a smell.

What the hell can it be? Pictures attached - I had rinsed the one in the sink before I thought about it but it had more of what looked like a lump in it. Or a more concentrated patch.

I’m sure there is some sort of mundane explanation but at the moment we can’t think what it is! If something sprayed in the window it would have been a very impressive trajectory through the velux window and even if so - what the hell was it outside?

Pic of the bath splatters and the window which is about a meter away from the bath!

To wonder what the hell this is and how it got here?

Escaped octopus!

Has your 4yr old been putting their felt pens under the tap...

Longshot

SleepWarrior · 04/07/2018 22:12

They don't look as if they have fallen from a great height as they are more like little puddles than splatters.

Leaky Biro in your dhs pocket (hence him not noticing as it was a trail behind him)? Seems unlikely though.

Haggisfish · 04/07/2018 22:13

Could it be melting something from roof or window frame? Waterproof membrane melted on Glasgow science centre roof and it looked like that.

Candypinkstars · 04/07/2018 22:13

If the window is above the bath it's most likely from the double glazing. In the heat the rubber seal melts.

I have some similar goo in a small top window that gets alot of sun. The window doesn't open so it stays in the glass in a horrible gloopy pool. But you can't see unless you look.

Sorry to demolish the bee poo theory

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/07/2018 22:14

Any similar spots like black felt pen spots on any of the bedding?

BlooBagoo · 04/07/2018 22:15

Ghost with an ink pot? Grin

SleepWarrior · 04/07/2018 22:15

Just looked up bee diarrhoea (who knew!) and don't think it's that - the images on google looked pretty yuck and more like a pebbledashed toilet after a bout of noro than a purple ink blob.

Bridgeofpies · 04/07/2018 22:15

No other black spots anywhere that I can see (will go and check again!).

The window is above the sink but about a meter away from the bath. Directly above the bath where the splodges are is just a white ceiling. No marks on it.

Oh and the splodges aren’t directly under the taps - and don’t think DC have been putting pens under the taps. We got back from grandma’s house and put them to bed.

DH is wearing shorts and tshirt with no pens anywhere on his person!

Rosielily · 04/07/2018 22:18

Plus DH swears it wasn’t there then!

And you believe him? Grin

Bridgeofpies · 04/07/2018 22:20

Rosie I know - I did wonder if DH would actually have noticed it!! The window was closed until he went in there to brush DD’s teeth though and it definitely wasn’t there earlier in the day! I think it must have come in through the window!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/07/2018 22:20

If you find other black spots on the beds then it could be bedbugs so I hope you don’t.

Haggisfish · 04/07/2018 22:21

Could it have ‘poured’ from the window into the bath though?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 04/07/2018 22:21

Isn't the usual MN advice for something like this usually one of the below:

  1. get an exorcist in

  2. get Sigourney Weaver in

  3. Burn the house down

  4. Lick it

and if all of those fail to provide an answer POKE IT, POKE IT, POKE IT!

73kittycat73 · 04/07/2018 22:22

Could it be some material melting from your roof? I ask because I read about a centre in Scotland having that problem - their roof tile adhesive was melting in the heat?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/07/2018 22:23

If it only appeared after he opened the window then it’s probably something that flicked off the frame when he pulled it down. It looked like velux window which does tend to clunk open with a jerk so would shake off what was on it into the room.

Bridgeofpies · 04/07/2018 22:24

I don’t think it could have poured from window onto bath without filling the sink first as that is directly under the window. It would have to be fired in from the side.

wichbich - first thing I did was poke it! Will add the other things to my list! Grin Am slightly dreading going up there now in case there is MORE!

sillyoldowl · 04/07/2018 22:25

I didn't even consider bees pooping

AuroraFloyd · 04/07/2018 22:25

The people on here are quite good at identifying things. www.reddit.com/r/whatisthisthing

Bridgeofpies · 04/07/2018 22:25

73kitty could be from roof... but it’s not like tar, it’s really liquid. AND it’s been much cooler here today than recent days.

OK. Am going back to open and close window and see if more appears.

If this was my house, it would be my DP doing something daft and either not noticing or forgetting. (That's what I would be saying anyway.)

PhoenixRisen · 04/07/2018 22:28

So off to google bee diarrhea.

PhoenixRisen · 04/07/2018 22:29

Wow. It's probably not that but am now educated as to bee bowel issues.
