Saying hello to child on school trip

LuckyAmy1986 · 04/07/2018 09:35

I just saw my child out on a school trip and as I walked past him said hello to him and blew him a kiss and he got excited and said mummy then happily went on his way with the teachers and kids. I feel like I shouldn’t have said anything to him, maybe a safety thing? DH things there is nothing to worry about but I’m thinking I’ll get told off later!

I’d do the same, you won’t get told off!

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2018 09:36

I think that's fine. Stranger to ignore him IMO. Grin

Unless of course you were stalking the school trip. Grin

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 04/07/2018 09:36

Not really sure I see what the problem could possibly be.

sad9999 · 04/07/2018 09:37

As long you weren't stalking the school trip don't worry

redexpat · 04/07/2018 09:37

He went happily on his way so cant see you being told off for disrupting a trip.

TheFirstMrsOsmond · 04/07/2018 09:37

It's fine - it would have been much odder if you had walked past your own child without a word!

LuckyAmy1986 · 04/07/2018 09:41

Omg thank you guys I am sitting here panicking! I will chill now. I just thought the teachers might later on say please can you not do that again etc and I don’t really want to be told off. I immediately regretted it!

Definitely not stalking the trip!

Bloody hell, you'd struggle to not acknowledge your own child! This is a primary pupil though, right...? Grin

LuckyAmy1986 · 04/07/2018 09:45

Yes! He’s 5. If he was a teenager or something I would have crossed the road so as not to embarrass him of course!

Don't worry at all OP. He's 5 and was probably happy to see his mum. Like you say a teenager would have been another matter Grin

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2018 09:48

OMG can you imagoine if it was a teenager. Grin

Is it a fun trip? I hope they all have water bottles/suncream/caps etc. I miss those days. My two would be so excited, they loved a school trip.

slashlover · 04/07/2018 09:48

I think ignoring him if he'd seen you would have been worse!

If you'd gone over and made a fuss or disrupted the trip then I could see why you'd be worried but it was a 5 second interaction.

kyrenialady · 04/07/2018 09:49

If it was my teen I would have pretended not to see her.

However, primary is fine and he may have felt a little hurt if you hadn't of said hi.

LuckyAmy1986 · 04/07/2018 09:51

Oh no he didn’t notice me first, he wouldn’t have if I hadn’t called out hi! Does that change things?!

No problem at all. How weird would it have been to ignore your own son? Except a teenager, obviously.

dancingthroughthedark · 04/07/2018 09:56

Having organised many school trips it is quite astonishing just how many parents just happen to be in the same place at the same time. So even if it was a coincidence I doubt the staff will think that was the case!

bebanjo · 04/07/2018 09:56

Hi, my DD was walking past a school playground last week and waved at her friend in the school ground. The friend was to far away to speak to.
The lunch time supervisor went over to my DD, the school children are not allowed to speak to members of the public.

LuckyAmy1986 · 04/07/2018 09:57

Oh gosh dancing don’t say that! Anyway I guess I will just forget about it unless something is said in which case I will report back!

OP posts:
LuckyAmy1986 · 04/07/2018 09:58

Bebanjo that’s what I am thinking they will say to me. We will see anyway!

I wouldn’t have let him see me in that case tbh. At that age my dd would have been beside herself upset to have to just walk off. I would have worried about her trying to escape to get to me.

Myotherusernameisbest · 04/07/2018 10:04

I'd have done the same! My 5 year old would have been delighted to see me when out on a school trip.

He smiled, waved and went on his way. No bother at all, of course you won't get told off!

wishywashy6 · 04/07/2018 10:04

He's still your child even if he's on a school trip!
I know the teachers at my kids school wouldn't mind at all. Reverse situation my sons teacher bumped into us while we were at a cafe the other weekend and came over to say hello. I wouldn't worry :)

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 04/07/2018 10:07

When my son was 5 I came across his class on a walk in town. His teacher said to him "Look DS1 - who's that?"

He looked me in the eye and said "I don't know!"

LuckyAmy1986 · 04/07/2018 10:08

Ithink that just made me burst out laughing! Kids are so funny!
