To think it's possible to lose 10lb in 10 days

I'm going on holiday in less than a fortnight and my summer clothes don't fit!

I can lose over half a stone in that time, can't I? Preferably without the need to get Novovirus.

Positive stories and tips welcome!

Daffodil the problem with slimfast is it’s full of sugar and additives. If you want to do a shake/meal replacement it’s far better to make your own- almond milk, full fat kefir, frozen berries, frozen spinach, maca powder, avocado. No sugar or sweetners, fat, protein, fibre, some carbs. Multivitamin tablet if you’re concerned about being malnourished!

Slimfast is expensive, processed, sweet.

MVLipwig · 04/07/2018 12:06

I just did it! No low carb or anything fancy, just a shitload of water and one normal but small portioned meal a day. If I was starving I’d have some chia water. Only worked for me because I’ve lost appetite with the weather. (Originally 14.5 stone)

Lougle · 04/07/2018 12:26

I don't know if it's healthy. I've lost 2kg (4lb 6.5ounces) in 10 days by reducing carbs (I haven't eaten any bread, but have had potatoes occasionally, hummus, some granola once or twice, etc) and introducing Couch 2 5k. I've done 5 runs so far. So I'm sure if I was "dieting" I'd have lost more, and if I'd done more exercise, too, but the weight is still dropping off.

OneStepSideways · 04/07/2018 12:32

Yes it's possible. I did it last year, by cutting out all sugary snacks and reducing carbs and portion sizes. It took a few days to stop craving sugar, then was easy. I ate lots of lean protein like grilled chicken, turkey, eggs, with lots of veg and small amounts of whole grain pasta and toast. Just fruit and nuts between meals.

The main thing is to switch your attention away from food- don't think about it, don't have junk food around, don't break the diet or the sugar cravings start again!

Good luck

Keto or a VLC keto shake diet will work. But you have to eat/drink within a limited 6-8hr eating window otherwise it takes an age.

henpeckedinchief · 04/07/2018 12:36

Ulikely! To lose 10lb you will need to burn 35,000 calories more than you consume. That's 3,500 per day. So say your total daily energy expenditure (e.g. The calories you burn just by existing) is 2000 (average for s woman) and you eat a modest 1200 (the safe minimum), you will still need to burn another 2,700 calories per day to lost a pound every day. The average person running a 10 minute mile will burn 310 calories in 30 minutes. So you would need to run at 6mph for over 4 hours to get close to burning 2,700 calories. That isn't feasible unless you're an elite athlete.

These are only averages and a lot depends on your stats. So if you are very overweight your maintenance calories will be much higher and it is a more feasible goal. But it is still very ulikely that you would get close to 10lb in 10 days.

Why don't you have 10 days of healthy eating and exercise but at the same time treat yourself to some new summer clothes and tell yourself every day that you're gorgeous regardless of size, and that having a wonderful holiday is something you deserve!

thecatsthecats · 04/07/2018 12:57

Do it the hard and slow way, and buy a few pieces of bigger clothes.

I am going slow with my wedding diet, to the extent that the wedding isn't even the target. I am determined not to be one of those people (most people, by the way), who lose weight then steadily pile it back on.

Both friends of mine who did a similar diet crash before their weddings are now trying to diet off the rebound weight the slow and steady way.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 04/07/2018 12:59

I lost 3lb this week just by drinking plenty of fluids and eating more fruit and veggies, less sugary snacks, and less white carbs. That’s without exercise and with a couple of slip ups, so half a stone in 10 days should be pretty doable.

2up2manydown · 04/07/2018 13:01

I’m losing weight for a holiday too OP. Any time I’ve ever successfully lost weight (I’m not overweight but every couple of years find myself 10lb ish over my happy weight) it’s been through simply eating very little of what I like. I’ve never managed a diet that removes food groups or says no sugar, no dairy etc. I just cut way down.

I hardly eat in the morning at all and then I don’t eat proper meals, I just pick at what I like. So a handful of blanched almonds and raisins, a fat free Greek yogurt with a little agave syrup stirred in to take the edge off, a bowl of strawberries or half a melon, one of those individually-wrapped chunks of mature cheese (nibbled slowly). I even keep boring biscuits in eg Nice or bourbons because I know I wouldn’t go mad with those but one or two isn’t many calories and gives me a little sugar boost. By evening (usually my danger time) I’ve not consumed that many calories at all and can afford a little splurge. I had crisps last night during the football and - shock - an ice lolly, followed by some more cheese and healthy nuts. So I’m getting good fats and nutrients and vitamins but still enjoying my usual treat food.

I’ve been doing this for a week and a half and have lost 5lb so far, I feel absolutely fine and will carry on for another week and a half until my holiday. That’ll be at least half a stone gone and I have never found the weight pings back on. Unless you return to pigging out of course! I usually find losing a bit encourages me to just eat better generally. When I’m a bit overweight it messes with my psyche and I just think screw it and eat more.

The heatwave has definitely helped a lot.

Loyaultemelie · 04/07/2018 13:59

Keto combined with lots of water yes. Also when you are away stick to reasonably low carb and you won't immediately put it all back on. I'm veggie and can't do huge amounts of exercise due to some medical conditions I lost 9 in my first week and hadn't worked out the water helped by that point so if you drink 2-3 l it will speed up. If you aren't veggie there's lots of recipes for keto if you are veggie or vegan look on Facebook there's some pages there

AnnUnderTheFryingPan · 04/07/2018 14:03

Harcombe diet - do ten days in the ‘detox’ phase. I lost 10 pounds in 10 days. Once you get through days 3/4 (when you get the detox headaches and generally feel shit) it’s great.

HereWeBloodyGoAgain · 04/07/2018 14:25

Hi OP.....watching with interest....I’ve lost a stone this year with Slimming World but now I have hit a plateau and fancy shaking it up for a little boost.....might even join you! Smile

HonestTeacher · 04/07/2018 18:18

I did a juicing diet. Got the book 'lose 7lbs in 7 days' by Jason Vale. It worked for me and I kept it off for about 6 months. I was 11 stone 4 when I started it. Have a look at the reviews on Amazon. A few of my friends tried it, only one of them didn't like it. It is obviously not a healthy diet and you are not meant to do it longer than a week.

specialsubject · 04/07/2018 18:25

detox is babble unless you are coming off hard drugs.dr

mushing up food - no teeth? swallowing p roblems?

Moreisnnogedag · 04/07/2018 18:42

Seriously this a bad plan. All these crash dieting fads are not good for you. Eat healthily, drink just water. Don’t up your misery in the run up to your holiday, why don’t you just start a better lifestyle and carry it forward? Grab a few comfy loose dresses from various cheap places and enjoy yourself.

TittyGolightly · 04/07/2018 18:51

Seriously this a bad plan. All these crash dieting fads are not good for you.

The BSD is a medically indicated diet which can reverse type 2 diabetes. But sure, they’re all bad.

GoodFortuneAttendThee · 04/07/2018 18:56

Has anyone done the James Duncan diet? it doesn't give any quantities for things like chicken or fruit..surely you would need quantities to be sure you weren't eating too much?

Verbena87 · 04/07/2018 19:00

Get some bigger clothes, continue to enjoy the sunshine, enjoy your holiday?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/07/2018 19:42

I also agree that a spray tan
Pre holiday cleanse (loads of water , veggies and fruit)
And a trip to primark for some baggies

Will do wonders too OP

Have to say that you do get used to a healthy diet . If you told me 6 months ago that I could happily live with no booze (ishBlush) , salads and fruit I would not have believed you

Once you start the healthy eating habit you feel so much better it does stick

Enjoy your holidays

Birdsgottafly · 04/07/2018 19:49

I did at the start of this summer. I had to drop down to 700 calories a day.

I can't exercise because of CFS, so you could just make sure that with exercise, you have only 700 cals left.

The newest research doesn't say that it's bad. The research also shows that yo-yo dieting is better than staying at one, too heavy, weight.

I needed the confidence to get into a size 16 and get more mobile, which you do when you are a stone lighter. If I hadn't have done, I don't think I would still be losing and getting out and about.

There is no one-size-fits-all, when it comes to weight-loss.

lakehouse · 04/07/2018 20:58

@acatcalledjohn lemon detox diet is absolutely a starvation diet. Basically a syrup you put in water with lemon juice and sip throughout the day to take the edge off the hunger and stop you blowing your brains out. Foul thing but very effective for a pre holiday crash diet. Nothing healthy about it at all but you lose a pound a day even when slim to start.

margaritasbythesea · 04/07/2018 21:19

Goodfortune - I have done the James Duncan diet. I just ate until I was full and that is how you are supposed to do it I think. It was so incredibly dull that you do just stop after less than you think. It´s not a pleasure but it is doable. I lost half a stone in five days and kept it off.

margaritasbythesea · 04/07/2018 21:20

It does give you the psychological help of being full three times a day though.

paceyswife · 04/07/2018 21:21

Google the shitter tea thread - hilarious and some great tips on there Wink
