To think it's possible to lose 10lb in 10 days

I'm going on holiday in less than a fortnight and my summer clothes don't fit!

I can lose over half a stone in that time, can't I? Preferably without the need to get Novovirus.

Positive stories and tips welcome!

Campylobacter did it for me. Would NOT recommend. Other than that, I would buy some new clothes and eat sensibly until I went.

acatcalledjohn · 04/07/2018 07:44

That's an unhealthy level of weight loss, and the vast majority of that would be water weight rather than true fat.

It'll be kinder to your body (and more sensible) to buy clothing a size up in the current sales that are on everywhere, otherwise you'd be back to square one halfway through your holiday.

timeisnotaline · 04/07/2018 07:48

It is if you’re ill enough. Even if you did you would put it back on while on holiday so any smaller clothes wouldn’t fit sorry.

TheHandmaidsTale · 04/07/2018 07:49

It would be extremely unhealthy to do so. New clothes are the way forward. Try charity shops if you don't want to fork out loads of money for them.

Tinkobell · 04/07/2018 07:50

No that's not realistic. Even if you starve, most people find that the weight drop (burning of your fat) takes a couple of weeks to kick in.
You could try

  • slim fast shake with fruit added for breakfast (add some Iron also)
  • soup for lunch.....chop a bit of protein in like lean chicken.
  • smaller portion dinner with no added carbs.
  • snacks x 3 pieces of fruit.
  • supper - Skyre yoghurt.
  • no alcohols

I've done this since April and dropped one and a half stones. 21lbs over around 10 weeks. I wouldn't wanted to have eaten less or felt any hungrier than I have.
Good luck!

BlackberryandNettle · 04/07/2018 07:50

I'd have a health kick, so no sugar, no booze, low carbs. But realistically try on all summer stuff then visit a sale, or cheap high street place eg supermarket clothing/m&co for a few new things

WeirdScenesInsideTheGoldmine · 04/07/2018 07:54

Op if you’re serious I’ll do it with you (we’re the same weight)

lakehouse · 04/07/2018 08:00

You could do the lemon detox diet- loses a pound a day and after day 3 you don't feel so horrendous. Very effective for me.

Domino211 · 04/07/2018 08:04

Only time I’ve lost that amount that quickly was doing a Clean 9 detox - it’s basically just 2 days of fasting then no carb, no fat, very low calorie diet.

I lost about 12 lbs and only 5 lb went back on when I ate normally so overall a 7lb lose

acatcalledjohn · 04/07/2018 08:05

What on earth is a lemon detox diet, other than a) not a detox as we have organs that 'detox' our body for us and b) a starvation diet if you lose 1lb a day?

acatcalledjohn · 04/07/2018 08:08

@Domino211 Please don't recommend Forever Lying pyramid scam shit shakes priced at £100-120 for 9 days of starving yourself. Because it only works if you follow their carefully devised low calorie eating plan with it...meaning the C9 doesn't actually cause the weight loss. You could do that without paying out for the C9.

And use the savings made to buy a new selection of holiday clothes.

MeanTangerine · 04/07/2018 08:10

Get some gear from Primarni and enjoy your holiday. Make some long term healthy changes when you get back.

Domino211 · 04/07/2018 08:18

Oh god no not recommending spending the money! It’s a total rip off hence why I said it’s just 2 days fasting then very low cal - my other post wasn’t clear sorry!

I got given one to trial by a friend, thankfully she gave us being involved pretty soon after

acatcalledjohn · 04/07/2018 08:19

Phew @Domino211. That's good news!

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 04/07/2018 08:33

There is a diet where you can lose a stone a week. Can’t remember what it’s called but it’s a set diet which you need to follow absolutely and actually does work. I think it involves lots of grapefruit and no carbs

James Duncan diet also called lose a stone in a week diet. Op it's good but really hard!

sailorcherries · 04/07/2018 08:59

As others have said you'll put the weight back on again on holiday, meaning that mid holiday your clothes won't fit.
Buy something in the next size up, make small changes that can be maintained while on holiday and aim for a longer term, more sustainable, way of life.

Ohyesiam · 04/07/2018 09:02

Yes, look at blood sugar diet. I lost 10lbs in the first week.

specialsubject · 04/07/2018 09:06

diets that 'work a few times' fail every time. people not working this out is how the diet 'industry ' makes money.

crash dieters always pork up again. make some lifestyle changes and buy a few clothes that fit.

WellTidy · 04/07/2018 09:14

You don't sound like you have much weight to lose. I had about a stone to lose a few years ago, and I did a diet along these lines:

Breakfast - zero fat yoghurt and a piece of fruit OR small bowl porridge and skimmed milk and a piece of fruit
Lunch - 3 oz of either meat or fish plus 4 oz veg
Dinner - 4 ox of either meat or fish plus 5 oz veg plus a piece of fruit

At least 2 pints of water a day. Also some crispbreads. No booze.

I am not recommending it as I have no qualifications to do so. I can just say that it was bloody hard, but it really worked for me. I lost a stone over about 5 weeks and I kept the weight off for a year. At your weight, I can't imagine you'll be able to lose a stone in a week.

I need to do it again, as this time I have a stone and a half to lose.

margaritasbythesea · 04/07/2018 10:46

I have done that James Duncan diet. I lost half a stone not a stone in a week but kept it off. It is dull but doable.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 04/07/2018 10:51

I lost 11 pound in 7 days on Slimming World but didn't allow myself any syns and only ate free and mostly Superfree foods.

NotgoingoutNotstayingin · 04/07/2018 10:58

I've put 20lbs on since I started working from home - I'm bored and miss colleagues so I stuff my face. I'm 5'5 so need to be about 9.7.

I won't put weight on on holiday because food makes me feel ill abroad (whole different thread!)

@WeirdScenesInsideTheGoldmine - you're on! I'll PM you when I get home.

Helloflamingogo · 04/07/2018 11:10

Don’t be stupid. Get some new clothes and onto teamrh when you’re home.

daffodillament · 04/07/2018 11:13

My workmates were raving about Slimfast the other day. I'm wondering about doing it for a bit. It's been around so long it must be OK ? Surely ? My only thought about it is sounds too boring !

QueenOfMyWorld · 04/07/2018 11:13

Prob half stone but not 10lbs
