Mum at school drop off today was saying she wants to go on those Alli (sp?) pills.

I told her don't go near as I'm sure I've heard awful things about them make you leak/fart grease etc!

She said that's only if you don't follow the diet properly.

So anyone here tried them and can confirm? I'd be way too scared to go anywhere near them!

I’ve used orlistat for a really long time, on and off. First on prescription when I was very nearly obese (bmi went up to almost 28) but gp only prescribed one month and wouldn’t renew so I’ve bought them privately. I’ve never leaked oily 💩 but I’m sure it’s not good for me - one bit of eating disordered behaviour that won’t go away despite generally overcoming most of it 😳

19lottie82 · 03/07/2018 10:28

If you eat anything with high fat levels while taking them, DO NOT fart! And expect your toilet bowl to be a bit of a mess after you’ve done a number two.

If you stick to a low fat diet then your poos will just be a bit greasy.

I think they are more to encourage you to stay on a low fat diet, because if you don’t, the consequences are pretty gross!

You can’t just eat what you want and take them then lose weight.

Moonkissedlegs · 03/07/2018 10:31

3 words I saw on here once about these pills:

Radioactive. Arse. Gravy.

Just no!

First on prescription when I was very nearly obese (bmi went up to almost 28)

You were given these pills on prescription when your BMI wasn't even 28?

Moonkissedlegs · 03/07/2018 10:32

Yes I think the idea is you don't eat much fat because the consequences are too dire if you do!

They probably aren't a very good long term plan.

MrsPreston11 · 03/07/2018 10:33

Yeah I've always thought they would probably work pretty well due to the fear of eating anything fatty.

I have enough trouble (IBS-D) to ever risk making my stomach worse.

Maybe she's not being as much of a risk taker as I thought! Give us something to ask her each day at least. Wink

It was close enough! This was about fifteen years ago and I’d quadrupled in size on some horrible medication.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 03/07/2018 10:35

I'm taking them at the moment. I'm following a low fat diet as well. I haven't touch wood had any leaky farts ect but I do sometimes (even during eating) need to rush to the toilet and some days I'm constantly going all day but it's never too bad. I was scared to take them after reading everything but I tried them a few times while I was at home and they have been fine. Like a pp said though the toilet bowl can be a mess after BlushSmile

AveABanana · 03/07/2018 10:36

I used to write pharmaceutical adverse event reports on these. There was a lot of anal seepage. So much seepage. That was the term I had to use. Anal seepage.

FissionChips · 03/07/2018 10:36

I’ve had orlistat, I had no problems with them, they worked by helping me stick to a very low fat diet.

Moonkissedlegs · 03/07/2018 10:37

A BMI of 28 isn't that high? Yes, it's in the overweight category, but it's not considered dangerous in any way. What we're you before if you had quadrupled in size? Confused

Sorry, I'm not being nosy, it's just my BMI is 27 and whilst I could do with losing a stone or so, no one has ever mentioned my weight in relation to my health (and I do have health probs at the moment) and has certainly never mentioned prescribing weight loss pills.

Birdsgottafly · 03/07/2018 10:38

Moonkissedlegs, BMI isn't the whole picture. A Doctor led slimming clinic can decide whether you'd be a good candidate.

OP, they do all what has been said, in some people. If she wants to give them a go, then she should. I tried Xenical, they did nothing accept make me feel sick.

I'm now on some from a Slimming Clinic.

Kratos · 03/07/2018 10:40

Why, can you tell me where you buy them privately ? They really worked for me but my Gp didn’t renew either! Sad

OP, you don’t get greasy farts with them and explosive poo but it’s to be expected if you don’t follow the diet!

WhyDidIEatThat · 03/07/2018 10:40

I think I’d doubled my weight in under a year and somehow lived with it for a little while because there were more pressing issues then was just devastated one day and cried all over the gp. 28 was the bmi point at which they could prescribe then I think?

Birdsgottafly · 03/07/2018 10:41

Moonkissedlegs, some people's weight add to their health issues. In my case, mine was. If the medication that you are on increases your appetite and you are very overweight, which you can be with a BMI of nearly 28, then it makes sense to prescribe pills before the patient becomes obese.

WhyDidIEatThat · 03/07/2018 10:42

The brand I’ve got at the moment is called orligal and I get them from a uk offshore pharmacy, I only take them if I eat something fatty.

MrsPreston11 · 03/07/2018 10:47

I only take them if I eat something fatty.

That's a brave move though surely?

Bold fail

OP posts:
WhyDidIEatThat · 03/07/2018 10:49

I’m probably immune to them, if I eat something like fish and chips I can admire the results in the loo later but I’ve never had any anal seepage 😀 what a phrase

fourquenelles · 03/07/2018 10:53

Be very careful with what you eat. I had a small salmon fillet one evening and the next day I had to get my late DH to bring in fresh knickers and trousers because anal seepage happened with NO WARNING whatsoever just as I was about to give a presentation.

Kratos · 03/07/2018 10:56

Why, would Orligal be similar to orlistat? Still trying to find a reputable company place to get them but the majority seem ...dodgy

WhyDidIEatThat · 03/07/2018 11:03

It is orlistat, it’s full strength like xenical while Alli is half strength

Birdshitbridgegotme · 03/07/2018 11:15

I got them from Groupon. U do have to answer a questionnaire though as you need a bmi of 28 or above which I do

Squidgee · 03/07/2018 11:45

don't do it, horrible things.

Newson2508 · 15/07/2019 20:36

Im awaiting results from doctors to start Orlistat, can anyone tell me how they got on? Long term results? i have about 6 stone to lose

Thanks in advance
