The above is a quote from The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, said by Lord Elrond. At this stage, with POTUS practically pissing off every ally the US has while cosying up with several dictators, it seems quite apt.

'Inside Trump’s Money-Losing Scottish Golf Paradise.
The president’s Turnberry deal demonstrates his love of the sport — and his dubious business judgment.'

'Turnberry has also been the subject of congressional hearings that included testimony speculating about how Trump arranged financing to buy that course and fund his others in Scotland and Ireland. Eric Trump, the president’s son, has been quoted as saying that some of his family’s funding for its golf business came from Russia (Trump fils disputed the account).'

Oh to be a fly on the wall to hear HM and the DoE talking about Scrotus after he left! I'll bet his ears were buuuurrrning!!! Her first words were probably "Make it a triple, Philip!!".

lionheart · 13/07/2018 21:41

Just back from London. I needed that.

Did see a sign that said, 'How very dare you!' and thought there might be a MN connection.

Saw the Trump baby and it seemed to make people smile. Smile

My goodness Trafalgar Square was packed and the people just kept coming.

Roussette · 13/07/2018 21:50

Thanks for going lion. And thanks to everyone else who went.

DH and I have been smiling all day. It really made us feel a bit less alone to know that so many are behind us.

lionheart · 13/07/2018 21:53

I'm very glad Across.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/07/2018 22:04

I knew there might be a problem with the red dress matching the carpet but did not reckon on this one.

Rosenstein is growing on me. (watching his declarations and presser)

He's like the accountant that got Capone. Untouchables part II.

The UK should be proud- the protest photos are amazing.
Can't link as on phone but the The Scotsman has a savage front page denunciation of 45.

TheClaws · 14/07/2018 01:08

Fantastic protests. Britain should be proud. Flowers and an honorary thread Glitterball to you all.

Democrats in Congress call for meeting with Putin to be cancelled because of indictments.
It won't.

"No, he wouldn’t take a question from CNN because they were more fake reporting. But, hell, he knew about nukes because his uncle had been a professor of nukes. He was now full-on delusional, repeating lies about events and meetings that had never happened. A masterclass in uncontrolled narcissism made orange flesh."

Special relationship? Trump and May's is almost pathological https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jul/13/special-relationship-trump-and-mays-is-almost-pathological-john-crace?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

Very funny summary of the press conference.

Sobering to realise that I wasn't as surprised by the press conference as the U.K. press. I've heard so many similar press events... and I'm not sure that's healthy Confused

I'm so envious of those marching yesterday. Well done all and I wish I could have joined you.

The indictments Rod Rosenstein announced are good news for all Americans. The Russians are nailed. No Americans are involved. Time for Mueller to end this pursuit of the President and say President Trump is completely innocent.

And the RNC reaction:
WASHINGTON — Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement after the Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted several Russian nationals for interfering in our elections:

“It’s clear that the Russians launched an attack on our electoral system with the goal of spreading distrust and undermining our democracy," said Chairwoman McDaniel. "Any breach of our political organizations – regardless of party – is an affront to all of us, and we should come together as Americans to prevent it from ever happening again."

"It also remains clear that there was no collusion by the Trump campaign and that the Russians were ultimately unsuccessful in altering the results of the election. The American people have watched the President’s political opponents desperately search for evidence of collusion for years now. While it’s important that we do all we can to safeguard our future elections, it’s long past time for investigations into non-existent collusion to end.”

Gumpendorf · 14/07/2018 07:27

I know the press have generally suggested his behaviour with HMQ was disrespectful, but to me he seemed confused. We've not seen much evidence of his dementia recently, but I wonder if his meds need changing Confused

A cheery thought as he goes to meet Putin to give away the West

ohmymimi · 14/07/2018 07:42

Immensely proud of, and grateful for, all you mn protesters, and everyone who came out yesterday. Thank you. Our democracy isn't perfect, and our PM may have let us down badly, but that act of protest was just magnificent. And I think it says a lot about us that the only MAGA hat wearer in London joined in unmolested, totally in the spirit of the day. Over to you, Scotland.

ohmymimi · 14/07/2018 08:04

I'm sure he was fully briefed on the protocol and what was required of him, Gump, but he is too indolent to concentrate enough to take it in and too arrogant to care, or think it matters. He can do no wrong in his own eyes. He thinks he is the most important person at most occasions, so a degree of disrespect is baked in. But I agree there are some signs of incipient cognitive impairment, but he is such a gigantic knob I just balk at anything that excuses his vile behaviour. (smile)

Of course, exceptions are his fan boy treatment of authoritarians, in particular Vlad. They are what he aspires to. Plus Vlad has the goods on him. I just hope I live long enough to find out every grizzly detail Grin

ohmymimi · 14/07/2018 08:28

I thought Rosenstein's statement was pretty telling and very carefully worded, the latter part had an enticing 'give em enough rope' element. It is obvious there is a lot more to come. The WH's response screamed consciouness of guilt, so it worked. No mention of Russia, no concern for the attack on US democracy, no congratulations for the work done or success in identifying this conspiracy. Just a 'yah boo, told ya' nothing to see here.
