The above is a quote from The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, said by Lord Elrond. At this stage, with POTUS practically pissing off every ally the US has while cosying up with several dictators, it seems quite apt.

Early Tuesday morning, NBC reported that Kennedy had been in negotiations “for months” with the outgoing justice stating, “Once Kennedy received assurances that it would be Kavanaugh (his former law clerk) Kennedy felt comfortable retiring.”

Confronted with the accusation by Berman, Shah repeatedly side-stepped the question, instead giving a boilerplate explanation about Kavanaugh’s qualifications.

“In the selection process, did President Trump speak to outgoing Justice Anthony Kennedy at all about Judge Kavanaugh prior to the nomination?” Berman asked.

[Shah: mimble ]

“I understand,” exclaimed Berman, cutting him off. “But what I’m asking: did Justice Kennedy express his support to Justice Kavanaugh prior to the nomination.”

[Shah: mimbly mimble ]

“There are reports this morning that as far back as months ago that Brett Kavanaugh was used — that Justice Kennedy basically made clear he would like to see Judge Kavanaugh as his replacement,” Berman attempted again. “Did anyone inside the White House or connected to the White House speak to Anthony Kennedy about Judge Kavanaugh dating back months?”

[Shah: mimbley mimbley mimp ]

Mm-hmm. I'm going for that being a "yes", too.

Dirty as f**k, the lot of them.
Kennedy had been in negotiations “for months” with the outgoing justice stating, “Once Kennedy received assurances that it would be Kavanaugh (his former law clerk) Kennedy felt comfortable retiring.”
That was no one way street. Kennedy's son bankrolling T. and Kav's change of heart on repug presidents being immune from the law of the land, must factor in this corrupt enterprise.

Worth remembering now that the Chief Judge of the D.C. Circuit walked the halls of the Capitol and Republicans refused to even meet with him.

@KristenClarkeJD
Brett Kavanaugh and Merrick Garland both sit on the D.C. Circuit.

Garland was the Chief of the D.C. Circuit at the time he was nominated. Garland has served on the court for 9 years more than Kavanaugh.

@FixTheCourt
Good morning! Here are the links to our #FOIA lawsuits over the Kavanaugh documents that the Justice Department & the National Archives are withholding (link: FixTheCourt.com/2018/07/KavanaughFOIAsuits) FixTheCourt.com/2018/07/Kavana… #SCOTUSnominee

@FixTheCourt
There are more than a million Kavanaugh documents that are a matter of public record but are being withheld by DOJ & NARA.

We're the only group in the country that filed FOIAs in 2017 to get all of them, meaning the documents are overdue.

We'll be filing suit in the morning.

At Flynn sentencing hearing, Federal judge acknowledged Trump’s former national security adviser is still assisting the Special Counsel’s investigation & put no pressure on Mueller to end that cooperation.

@jimsciutto
This is why these pardons are more than political. They have legal and national security implications.

@MarshallCohen
Remember when those right-wing militias took over a federal compound in Oregon and led a 40-day armed occupation? They were protesting the legal case against two ranchers from the area who were convicted of arson and sentenced to prison. Trump just pardoned those two ranchers.

If Kavanaugh is confirmed, I predict;

1- Some sort of 'presidential shield' law, if it can get through the House and Senate, will be 'fast tracked' through the judicial review process so it can be upheld by SCOTUS. They're going to want this done before Mueller issues his final findings.

2 - Roe v Wade will be history within 18 months. A red state will pass some random anti-choice law with the specific intent to create 'grounds', an appeal will be filed by ACLU or another interested pro-choice party and it will be 'fast-tracked' to SCOTUS by the state involved's AG within a year for docketing.

We're looking at scary times ahead if this nomination goes through.

AcrossthePond55 · 10/07/2018 18:02

The Hammond pardons are just bullshit. It'll do nothing but reinforce to these right wing, nut job, Scrotus supporting 'free men on the land' arseholes that they can do whatever they want and get away with it.

Oh wait, "Scrotus supporting". Now I get it! The real message; Get your guns out for Trump, get a pardon.

While working for Ken Starr in 1998, Kavanagh routinely skirted or violated Rule 6 (e) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure by leaking details of Lewinsky probe.Mueller’s team obeys the law; Starr’s didn’t. Reporters didn’t bust Brett because they benefitted. Will one now?

Yes, those pardons really are so dangerous, Across. The possibility of civil unrest, if this 'presidency/president' is threatened, involving those militias must be extremely worrying.

AcrossthePond55 · 10/07/2018 19:38

Another view on the subject mimi; DH was listening to NPR and they were discussing the fact that Scrotus' imposition of tariffs has resulted in a certain country (I think China? Japan?) imposing stiff tariffs on US exported agricultural products to their country, thereby dealing a serious blow to the profits of Scrotus' main base, the conservative farming/ranching communities of the US. So he sees the pardoning of two ranchers as saying "See, I'm your friend. You love me. See what I do for you? Ignore those other guys".

SanFranBear · 10/07/2018 20:25

Such depressing news coming out of the US right now and I'm also sad as I'm not going to be able to make the main London protest now Sad he won't be there bit still... I'm going to see if there's anything more local to me as I've taken leave and want to register my disapproval.
