To ask neighbors to turn down music in the garden

My neighbors always play music in the garden on sunny days, all day every day, but the past week or so the volume has got much louder. I've always found it annoying and have never complained but it's becoming unbearable, you can even hear it inside with the windows closed. So I asked them politely to turn it down a little, they said it's the kids speakers so that's why it's up so loud and started going on about the kids not being allowed to play in the garden. I said I didn't mind at all about the kids (oldest one is 6) playing, it was the music that was too loud. Anyway, they didn't turn it down, in fact I think they turned it up and I heard them saying to the kids that the should enjoy themselves and not bother about anyone. What would you do?

Nothing you can do. You could be petty (like me) and take revenge in small insignificant ways. Or you could rise above and try to ignore.
You asked nicely and they said no. They aren't breaking any laws so not much else you can do.

I like the idea of revenge in small insignificant ways, that will really irritate the heck out of them.

It is not the case that your neighbour can play music as loud as he likes just because it is day time. The noise, any noise, can be defined as a statutory nuisance. Go to your council, keep a diary.

'in fact I think they turned it up and I heard them saying to the kids that the should enjoy themselves and not bother about anyone'

Utter assholes. I feel your pain, we used to have a neighbor who blared music at a ridiculous volume. It's maddening. You've tried addressing it calmly like a grown up and got nowhere. I wish I had some decent suggestions for you. It's most definitely them, not you.

Pickleypickles · 02/07/2018 08:01

Id play my own music really loud and just have a music off with them But im petty

loveka · 02/07/2018 08:02

They sound horrible. What a selfish attitude, not worrying about anyone else.

Some people just think as long as they are happy then fuck everyone else, they don't care what impact they have on others.

I hate hearing other peoples music, it is so intrusive.

QueenPeeBeePee · 02/07/2018 08:14

Just play some "inappropriate" music back at them.

Thrash Metal, Eminem or even worse - classical!

Fuck 'Em...

Big3 · 02/07/2018 08:19

So my plan was to speak to them again and apologise if they thought I was complaining about their kids playing, but it was only that the music was very loud. Or will this just antagonise them and make it worse?

Is it just the music or are they unfriendly at other times? What kind of music does a six year old listen to in the garden? I can understand teenagers blasting out as if they are at some festival but six year olds!!!

BasicUsername · 02/07/2018 08:24

Put some very annoying music on, full blast. Preferably one song on repeat.

Then go out for the day.

thereareflowersinmygarden · 02/07/2018 08:31

Bach's Fuge, at six am

banivani · 02/07/2018 08:34

Have you heard of the Japanese Yodeler, Takeo Ishi?

Big3 · 02/07/2018 08:36

Revenge music isn't really going to help, plus I don't want to upset other neighbours. They seemed to be proud that their kids listen to "adult" music (mainly chart stuff with some oldies thrown in) and don't see the problem with a child being in charge of the volume control

I asked mine. Nicely. They did..No biggie

jocktamsonsbairn · 02/07/2018 08:39

My neighbour is like this blasting out his 'choons'- no need for it when there are decent headphones around. He is also obsessed with his sprinklers for his front and back lawns. Washing gets soaked, can't open windows or inside house gets soaked, can't lie out or we get wet, can't get in and out of front door, or into car without dodging the non stop fecking downpour of water!! Bring on the hosepipe ban!!
Maybe that's what you could do? Stick on a high power sprinkler and go out?!! I can't express how annoying it is!!!

specialsubject · 02/07/2018 09:22

selfish pigs - like quite a few on here, sadly.the rest of the world does not want to hear your music, pigs.

QueenPeeBeePee · 02/07/2018 09:49

Revenge music isn't really going to help

Believe me, it does!

After an afternoon of some hip hop type crap coming over from the people at the back a few weeks ago I played some Rammstein back at them for the hour it took me to cook my BBQ & by jingo, it's all been at a sociable level ever since...
