Ok, I've heard a lot about creepy things happening through baby monitors and I've just experienced one literally 10mins ago myself!
I have just got a new video monitor and I have 4 & 6 year old DCs sleeping in their shared bedroom.
I can see that they're fast asleep, no movement being seen on camera however I could hear a creaky floorboard kind of noise and it sounded like someone as in their room. I looked at the monitor and I put it to my ear. I was very confused and the all of a sudden I watch the camera just fall to the floor. I run up and both DC are fast asleep. The camera was stood firmly on a table well away from DC so I struggle to see how it could possibly have fallen on its own.
There very well maybe an explanation but right now I'm quite creeped out.

Tell me your stories

Mine was the old style one, before video monitors and the like.
The family down the street had the same one and must have been on the same frequency.
If my handset was left on but the base unit was off, it would pick up theirs, and vice versa. I’d often here him chatting away to the baby during the day.
One night, she was downstairs and heard a strange woman (me) singing to her baby (actually my DS). She was terrified there was a woman in her baby’s bedroom and sent her DH upstairs to check.
Very creepy.

When dd1 was a baby (she's 15 now), we bought a baby monitor from boots. It was on offer, pretty cheap, and did what we needed it to.

I kept hearing her crying on the monitor, and when I'd rush up to check on her, she'd be fast asleep. One night, I heard her cry, then heard a man's voice speaking to her.
Crapped myself and ran upstairs, she's asleep and there's no-one else there.

Talking to a friend at baby group a few days later, and it turned out she'd had the same sort of things happening on her monitor.

We had the same monitor, on the same channel (there was only 2), and she lived in the street behind us, so the monitors were occasionally picking each other up. One of us swapped channels, and problem solved!

Someone in our neighborhood had the same monitor as us. I was napping one day, and was awoken by a man singing the Sponge Bob theme song from the monitor.

Once I woke up in the middle of the night and heard the baby crying in the monitor. I got up and went to her room and stuck her pacifier in her mouth, then went to the bathroom. When I came out of the bathroom, I heard the crying again, but standing in the hallway between our two rooms, I realized it was coming from the receiver in our bedroom, not from the baby in her room.

I normally come to bed before DH, and we have a video monitor, which is a bit rubbish, on my side of the bed. I woke not long after going to bed one night to see a dark figure leaning over the cot on the screen. Thought sleepily to myself “oh, DH must be checking on him”, turned over and DH was right there in bed next to me! Shot out of bed and there was nobody there, baby still asleep. It happened several more times that night, a dark shape standing over the cot, reaching in. On about the 4th or 5th time, I thought to check the camera and there was a spider running around on it. Its legs looked just like arms reaching in to the baby!!

About 2 years ago, we had some close friends stay on our farm with their baby. We set up our old baby monitor in their room and the baby was asleep on the bed. We were all sitting on the veranda. Suddenly the baby let out a piercing scream. My friend grabbed the receiver and turned it off (I think she did it because my son's room faces the veranda and the window was open) and ran to see on the baby, I went behind her, I was worried that the baby might have rolled off the bed. When we entered the room, the baby was sound asleep, no sign that she'd even woken up and settled herself again, she was in the same position we'd left her in when my friend had fed her!
Our old farmhouse has only one neighbour, which is where the head cowboy and his family live. They have two teenagers and no babies staying with them. The nearest houses other than this are across a large valley, no way the radio could have picked up a signal. We don't live there but stay on weekends, it is an old colonial house with a lot of history, dating back to the days of both slavery and days when gangs of bandits used to ride the countryside and rob farmers. Not a house you want to spend a night after hearing a phantom baby scream!

@whitelisbon we probably had the same one! DS is 15 too.
