Well, we’re in the last 16...

Oh Japan, devastating! To go from 2-0 up...

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 02/07/2018 20:55

I hope Belgium play better against Brazil. I want those dirty cheaters gone.

alibongo5 · 02/07/2018 20:58

Wanted Belgium to win but feel sorry for Japan. Maybe they were a little naive at the end by pushing everybody up to try to get a winner so leaving so much room at the back for Belgium to break away and score? Giving away a last minute goal means you have no time to come back whereas if they'd just tried to get through to full time, they'd have had 30 minutes to try and if they'd given one away, would have had time to come back.

Anyway, big game tomorrow!

alibongo5 · 02/07/2018 20:59

TaliZorahVasNormandy And so say all of us!!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 02/07/2018 21:00

I'll see you lot tomorrow evening. England better bloody win. After a day a work, I'll something cheer me up. I'll have to keep an eye on Sweden v Switzerland on my phone.

ToffeeUp · 02/07/2018 21:00

I said before that I didn't want Japan to win because the way they played against Poland but I nearly ended up hoping they would win. What a world cup!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 02/07/2018 21:02

Gutted for Japan... Apart from the mistakes they played so well

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 02/07/2018 21:15

Brave effort by Japan, fair play to Belgium -
that was some fight back.

Glossyglosspaint · 02/07/2018 22:10

Great game, really felt for Japan they came so close but glad it didn't end up with penalties again.

I hope Belgium play better against Brazil. I want those dirty cheaters gone
Cheaters??

alibongo5 · 02/07/2018 22:21

glossyglosspain They (especially, but not only, Neymar) have been feigning injury, rolling around, clutching faces when they've been knocked on the shoulder. Blatant cheating, trying to get undeserved fouls and bookings.

Glossyglosspaint · 02/07/2018 22:51

Gah, loads of players in the other world cup teams have tried the same, it's hardly exclusive to Brazil. They don't often get much out of it these days with all the var backup hence Neymar's overruled penalty. Today's match was pretty clean and Brazil won through by outplaying Mexico fair and square.

Neymar is a big actor and I understand that it grates on people but he has also been targeted for aggressive fouls throughout his career. I'll never forget seeing him scraped off the pitch and carted off to hospital with a fractured back after a hideous tackle in the 2014 world cup. His histrionics today were ott but Layun deliberately stood on his fucking leg and should have been sent off.

Can't wait to see them in action against Belgium, should be a fantastic match.

user1471517900 · 02/07/2018 23:11

Evening all. That winning goal from Belgium was pure poetry. Absolutely sublime from start to end.

alibongo5 · 02/07/2018 23:12

Hmm - Hazard gets fouled constantly but doesn't resort to the histrionics that Neymar does. And they may not be the only ones but Brazil have been far and away the worst for play-acting. And it wasn't just today but in every match they've played.

Will be happy to see them beaten.

Glossyglosspaint · 03/07/2018 09:23

Also, you're ignoring the important fact that Brazil don't tend to commit many horrible fouls, unlike other teams. Willian was being kicked and barged all over the place in that match but he played on with fantastic heart and determination and skill as did the others. Apart from Neymar I didn't see any play-acting from Brazil. I'll be rooting for them against Belgium.

I'd give the Oscar (no pun!) for play-acting to Portugal over Brazil any day.

I'm amazed that all the attention is on Neymar with hardly a word of censure for Layun - why would you stamp on someone lying on the ground ffs? Totally agree with Clattenberg, Layun should have been off for violent conduct.

JacquesHammer · 03/07/2018 09:51

Neymar is the boy who cried wolf. I strongly suspect that had he not had the tantrum he had last night there would have been deeper sanctions against Layun. Neymar play acts too often to be credible, which makes him an easy target.

alibongo5 · 03/07/2018 09:57

Jesus and Da Silva both went down like they'd been shot. Jesus writhed around a bit until he realised he wasn't getting a free kick then leapt to his feet and sprinted off. Da Silva was rolling around in agony from a brush to his chest. These are two I remember but there were many more incidences.

Willian didn't I grant you, and I think that comes from playing in England where you don't get away with it.

And yes, Portugal were bad too but they've already gone and I was glad to see them go.

I agree Layun was in the wrong - it would have been a soft sending off though - he did not stamp, he trod. Which is of course wrong but Neymar was being a prat by holding on to the ball to stop the throw in being taken and to waste some time.

Sorry, but I can't stand Neymar - never have and I doubt I ever will. He is a petulant twat.

Amanduh · 03/07/2018 10:02

Agree with the Neymar thing. I hate his histronics, they’re so ridiculously irritating.

As for tonight, I’m so bloody nervous. I think the fact we could play the ‘easier’ (ha) teams afterwards and we’d have a good route to the final (ha!) makes it all even worse! We’ll probably be awful tonight now. I can’t stand it, I feel on edge 😂

FawnDrench · 03/07/2018 14:57

Well I think this is a hard one to call.
It'll definitely be the team that starts with "Sw" though...

Just hope it's a good match with very few dramatic performances and rolling around on the ground.

ToffeeUp · 03/07/2018 14:59

I'll go for Sweden as I like their kit better, just hoping for a good match

ToffeeUp · 03/07/2018 15:20

Not a lot happening so far

alibongo5 · 03/07/2018 15:24

Rodriguez seems to play every match - he must be knackered!

ToffeeUp · 03/07/2018 15:42

Stretchy shorts

Amanduh · 03/07/2018 16:17

This is so boring. Sweden are so dull. Switzerland not bothering. Yawn

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/07/2018 16:24

Goal! Delection but still.
Can't believe Switzerland are the same team that played so passionately against Serbia.

alibongo5 · 03/07/2018 16:24

Finally a goal! But typically a deflection which would never have gone in without it.
