To think Birchbox is a huge waste of money!

I've never been one for subscription boxes, everyone raves about them but I've never bought in to it.

That is, until I saw they were running a buy one get one free deal. I thought this sounds like a bragain, so I paid the £10 plus £2.95 for postage and packing for two boxes.

The boxes came and I'm so disappointed and I can't understand why people pay £12.95 for one of these every month. I received 10 products, but two of these were samples. The rest of the items were so small, only a couple of them are worth having. Birchbox must be laughing every month with people paying out for samples Birchbox have probably been given for free anyway.

Agreed. It’s a big con because most of these samples can be obtained for free from the companies if you ask.

pompomcat · 01/07/2018 19:55

Agreed OP. A few years ago Birchbox wasn't bad...then it got really disappointing, tiny cheap and random samples of random brands. I unsubscribed and then someone kindly gifted me a box more recently, disappointing again so won't be signing up!!! Glossybox was even worse.

pompomcat · 01/07/2018 19:55

Unknown brands I meant to say!

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 01/07/2018 20:12

They use the word 'curated' so that's a no from me.

SilverHairedCat · 01/07/2018 20:13

Yep, I packed it in. Load of crap. Very disappointing.

Pebblespony · 01/07/2018 20:15

Ah damn, I was going to treat myself with a subscription. Anyone know any good alternatives?

CampariSpritz · 01/07/2018 20:27

I cancelled my subscription last month: there was never anything in the boxes that I particularly liked. I’ve decided to treat myself to something from Space NK that I actually pick each month instead, and they always throw in some samples too.

IlPorcupino, I totally agree re use of “curated”. At work, our weekly Brexit briefing states that it is a “curated selection” of articles...instantly makes me want to delete it!

BarbedBloom · 01/07/2018 20:29

Agreed. I am trying out latest in beauty this month as at least you get to pick your products

OneBigHeadFuck · 01/07/2018 20:31

Oh really? It sounds like I've ordered the one you received with the extra box for free it's due any day Sad

kitkatsky · 01/07/2018 20:36

I won 3 months free and enjoyed those. I found my fav ever lipstick shade and decided worth the price of a box to get that every month, until I realised that the perfect colour had been discontinued so they'd prob go t loads on the cheap to sell on! I didn't continue my subscription once the free time lapsed

Hassled · 01/07/2018 20:39

I'm on month 3 of a subscription and am beginning to realise it is actually shite. The odd thing that makes me happy but a disproportionate amount is hair-related, and I couldn't be less interested in stuff to make my hair have volume etc.
