Thigh chafing

BWrose · 01/07/2018 10:25

With the current heatwave, I ditched the trousers and wearing shorts a lot and sometimes skirts.

I find my shorts are riding up a lot. When I wear a skirt, I use a chafing gel and rub it in between my thighs. I found on Friday night walkt home, I had to keep tucking my skirt in better my legs for comfort. I reapplied the gel in the bathroom of the pub before leaving but it wasn't enough.

I find my thighs are tender now. Not sore, it's definitely been worse before.

I found something online called bandalettes and they are made just for this problem. It's a material band for wearing on your thighs.

Here they are on Amazon

www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/Bandelettes-Elastic-Prevent-Rubbing-Chafing/dp/B071SG24GW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=bandalettes&pi=SL140_SX121_CR0%2C0%2C121%2C140&ie=UTF8&qid=1530436666&sr=8-1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-am-i-being-unreasonable-3293698-Thigh-chafing" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/Bandelettes-Elastic-Prevent-Rubbing-Chafing/dp/B071SG24GW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1530436666&sr=8-1&pi=SL140_SX121_CR0,0,121,140&keywords=bandalettes

They are priced at 20 pounds.

I'm going away on holidays soon and I'm thinking I'm going to need 2/3 pairs of these to alternate every day and handwash and dry. Going in for two or three of them will be expensive.

If you have a look at the material used for these, it's says nylon and silicone. This wout be the same as hold ups. I'm thinking about getting some packets of hold ups instead and cutting off the tights. I wonder would that work? I don't have any hold ups here to practice on.
From looking online, the top band of hold ups look thinner than the bandalettes. There's only a small area on my thighs where the chafing is an issue anyways.

What do you think?

I imagine the top part of hold-ups would not be wide enough and you'd be adjusting them constantly.

How about some long-leg underwear?

I just ordered some of these, but a cheaper version, think I got mine for about £9 - just google "anti chafing" on amazon, there's the exact same thing for cheaper!

Also, try roll on deodorant!

PsychoPumpkin · 01/07/2018 10:30

Use body glide. Honestly it’s amazing for things chafe. Lasts all day

Clandestino · 01/07/2018 10:30

bike shorts?

kaytee87 · 01/07/2018 10:32

I'd just wear cycle shorts instead of underwear or buy jumpsuits and longer shorts instead of dresses and skirts.

madcatladyforever · 01/07/2018 10:32

Just wear lycra shorts.

flippyfloppyflower · 01/07/2018 10:34

What I do is but cheap tights and chop them off at the knee - so the tights become a pair of shorts (if you catch my drift). They are surprising cool as most of your leg is still exposed but it stops the chafing.

VickieCherry · 01/07/2018 10:36

I've tried bandelettes and wasnt impressed. They're basically thick bands of stretchy material with silicone on the inside to stop them moving. Much more substantial than the tops of hold-ups though the same sort of idea. I found they rolled up so they didn't cover enough thigh and were uncomfortable to walk in... maybe ok for a party, but not for everyday.

I wear long-leg shorts as posted by pp now - comfy, absolutely no chafing, and you don't flash the world your knickers if there's a sudden gust of wind 😁

VickieCherry · 01/07/2018 10:39

The last ones I bought are 'Sloggi Women's Basic Long Brief' on Amazon.

Cut off leggings also work well, in a pinch!

Fluffyears · 01/07/2018 10:41

I wear bandelettes all summer, havebthem on for 8 hours at times and they are brilliant. I also got protective shorts from the big bloomer company. Breathable as well as protecting. With bandelettes you need to make sure you size correctly.

Thehop · 01/07/2018 10:42

Just spray anti perspirant on your thighs. It creates a layer of slip and stops them running.

A couple off applications a day does me a full day. I’m a big girl , and it works.

BWrose · 01/07/2018 10:43

Marks and Spencer has some long leg knickers alright. I would be tempted and I may go in for them. Maybe. I do sweat a lot down below and I find I need to change underwear 2/3 times a day with this heatwave so I'm not too sure about the long knickers.

Hoddykins,

I found the cheaper alternative on Amazon alright but I'm apprehensive about ordering them because the shop I'd from China. I would probably be waiting forever for delivery and I need them in time for my holiday.

I agree with pp, anti perspirant deodorant all the way, spray first thing, quick top ups through the day then no problems at all!

KirstenRaymonde · 01/07/2018 10:53

Buy a stick of Bodyglide and apply liberally - brilliant stuff, no chaffing and much cooler than wearing additional shorts

FiveNightsAtMummys · 01/07/2018 11:02

I bought some cycling shorts from h&m 3.99 so comfy!

TomHardyswife · 01/07/2018 11:03

I bought some shaper shorts from matalan, making sure I bought a bigger size, but they were useless as they weren't long enough as the chafing was lower down on my thighs.

Someone recommended dove stick deodorant which I now find works a treat!

loveka · 01/07/2018 11:18

Try Big Bloomers Company. Fab long knickers.

BWrose · 01/07/2018 11:20

Thanks for the replies.

I will try the deodorant this week before the holidays.

I will order some glide too and try that.

I think at this stage for the holidays, I will have to go with a combination of things. I do have three quarter length leggings so I will wear that with a long top for one day and then use a combination of things for the remainder. Maybe deodorant under shorts if it works.

Lanacane Anti-Chaffing Gel (Amazon). You only need a tiny bit on each inner thigh. It's revolutionised my summer!

RustyBear · 01/07/2018 11:28

I ordered these on 20th June, they arrived 22nd - very comfortable and cool

I wear the long shorts underwear I got mine from bonprix. They have changed my life! I wear dresses all the time now and no chaffing at all. I wear underwear underneath them with a pantyliner on really hot days it helps absorb the sweat.

BWrose · 01/07/2018 11:35

Lanacane anti chaffing gel was the stuff I was using for the past year. I didn't have to use it everyday. I found it good but on Friday evening, I had a mile long walk and walking down the road was ok. The trip back from the pub was not to pleasant even though I had the gel on my thighs.

Disappointing to day the least.

The body glide is brilliant.

ThedementedPenguin · 01/07/2018 11:42

I ordered a set from eBay. They came within 2 days and where £5.99 each I believe.

They have made a huge difference for me.
