Thigh chafing

BWrose · 01/07/2018 10:25

With the current heatwave, I ditched the trousers and wearing shorts a lot and sometimes skirts.

I find my shorts are riding up a lot. When I wear a skirt, I use a chafing gel and rub it in between my thighs. I found on Friday night walkt home, I had to keep tucking my skirt in better my legs for comfort. I reapplied the gel in the bathroom of the pub before leaving but it wasn't enough.

I find my thighs are tender now. Not sore, it's definitely been worse before.

I found something online called bandalettes and they are made just for this problem. It's a material band for wearing on your thighs.

Here they are on Amazon

www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/Bandelettes-Elastic-Prevent-Rubbing-Chafing/dp/B071SG24GW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=bandalettes&pi=SL140_SX121_CR0%2C0%2C121%2C140&ie=UTF8&qid=1530436666&sr=8-1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-am-i-being-unreasonable-3293698-Thigh-chafing" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/Bandelettes-Elastic-Prevent-Rubbing-Chafing/dp/B071SG24GW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1530436666&sr=8-1&pi=SL140_SX121_CR0,0,121,140&keywords=bandalettes

They are priced at 20 pounds.

I'm going away on holidays soon and I'm thinking I'm going to need 2/3 pairs of these to alternate every day and handwash and dry. Going in for two or three of them will be expensive.

If you have a look at the material used for these, it's says nylon and silicone. This wout be the same as hold ups. I'm thinking about getting some packets of hold ups instead and cutting off the tights. I wonder would that work? I don't have any hold ups here to practice on.
From looking online, the top band of hold ups look thinner than the bandalettes. There's only a small area on my thighs where the chafing is an issue anyways.

What do you think?

This is where I bought mine. Ordered after 10pm Wednesday and arrived Friday morning

Whirlytastic · 01/07/2018 11:46

I buy cheap lightweight cycling shorts from Amazon and wear those under skirts and dresses. V comfy and I can walk happily for miles.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 01/07/2018 11:50

I had exactly the same with Lanacane but Body Glide is amazing

Fifthtimelucky · 01/07/2018 11:51

I second (or third) body glide. During the week I apply it soon after 6am and it is still working during my hot 20 minute walk to the station over 12 hours later. No top-ups necessary.

I am overweight, with especially big legs, and it has made a huge difference to my life in the summer.

LoniceraJaponica · 01/07/2018 11:54

Why not wear loose cropped trousers instead? Wouldn't they be cooler?

ChaffyMcChaff · 01/07/2018 12:31

Because you can't wear loose cropped trousers with a nice floaty dress @LoniceraJaponica

BWrose · 01/07/2018 21:40

The demented penguin,

Thanks for your link to eBay. When I first went looking online from Amazon and eBay, a lot sellers were from China. I never persisted to find one from the UK.

I measured my thigh at the fullest part.

Going by sizing online it says
It says size
A 54 - 60 cm
B 60 - 65 cm
C 65 - 70 cm

This is just an example of the sizing. I measured my thigh and it's 64 cm. I'm stuck on size whether to go up or down.

What do you think? Should I size up?

I find good old-fashioned talc works well.

Singlebutmarried · 01/07/2018 21:43

It says to go size up in the amazon info

dudsville · 01/07/2018 21:46

Op, I cut v thin tights at what looks like the calf. Because the foot is then missing there's nothing to hold then in place and they actually sit near to the of my knee to lower thigh. This is perfect for me. Not only would I otherwise suffer chaffing, I also find it uncomfortable to change crossed legs in summer as my legs still and this solves the problem. I just used old 10 denier tights.

CleanHonestGoals · 01/07/2018 21:50

Primark..they have yoga shorts which work a treat and a slightly longer tight short, basically cycle shorts. Both under a fiver and have seen me well so far this summer..although they sell out very quick

OvertiredandConfused · 01/07/2018 21:53

I use the bandalettes. They work okay as long as long as I’m not walking miles. Still think there must be something better!

BWrose · 01/07/2018 21:53

Thanks singlebutmarried,

I missed that part of going up a size.

Cutting tights in half is definitely out for me. I hate the problem tights give with the crotch falling down. I'm a stockings and suspender person when it comes to dressing my legs.

Stockings and suspenders won't help my legs under shorts riding up. I prefer keeping stockings and suspenders for evenings/nighttime/weekends/going out - so I need something for daytime.

PenCreed · 01/07/2018 21:57

If I wear bandalettes for too long, I come out in welts from the silicon. So far this year I've had some success with cheap leggings, cut off to make shorts. Cheap ones seem to work better - I bought some Next ones which I cut off and they just roll up, leaving me hot and chafing.

I hate having fat thighs, it just makes me miserable (and losing weight makes very little difference, they chafed when I was a size 10 too).

BlitheringIdiots · 01/07/2018 21:57

I use the stick deodorant. Works wonders

LittleMermaidRose · 01/07/2018 21:58

Yes definitely buy the bandallettes!!!!!! I know they're a bit pricy but they're definitely worth it. I swear by them!

They have cheaper versions on ebay but I haven't tried them.

I bought one pair about 2 years ago & they've really lasted.

Wouldn't recommend cutting the tops off hold ups. The bandallettes are much wider so I don't think you would get the same protection.

What gel did you use and how long does it usually last?

BWrose · 01/07/2018 22:01

Watto, I think at this and especially for the holiday - I will be using a combination of things to prevent chafing. I'm going to go for the eBay bands and I will probably use talk to keep the area dry and have a mini bottle of take in my bag for day time.

I will get a lubricant like body glide too and use that in the evenings if I'm dressing up.

UpstartCrow · 01/07/2018 22:03

How about short, loose culottes?

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 01/07/2018 22:05

I swear by long leg knickers. I got some cheap shapewear from B&M or Poundstretchers r somewhere, they cost me £4.00 and I wear them under all my dresses now. They are super comfy too.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 01/07/2018 22:06

I use sanex roll on deodorant it works amazingly!

TheClitterati · 01/07/2018 22:08

This worksa dream. I wear it all summer. And I wear dresses and skirts all summer now. Can't if I don't use this

Overtiredandconfused
Pencreed,

An idea came to me while I was browsing eBay. Socks/bands for thighs. I'm a knitter and I sometimes design clothes/knits in my spare time. It's just a hobby of mine. I have nothing commerically available.

I'm definitely going to sit down at some stage and design something for this. Using thin cotton yarn and a stretchy stitch or using elastic. I'll give it a go anyways at some stage. I'm definitely not going to have anything ready or prepared for my holidays.

Watch this space.

Cycle shorts should have a thick chamois in them and are hot and sweaty and unpleasant to wear if you're not actually cycling. Lycra mid thight shorts without a chamois aren't made for cycling in and are just fashion lycra shorts.
I have linen or cotton loose mid calf trousers that are comfortable in the heat.

BWrose · 01/07/2018 22:13

Little mermaid rose,

I use lanacane anti chafing gel. It's ok for nights outs/short walking distances but longer walks not so much.
